"THE INFLUENCE OF COMPUTER-ASSISTED INSTRUCTION ON THE RATE OF UNIVERSAL PRECAUTIONS RELATED BEHAVIORS (REGISTERED NURSES, IMMUNE DEFICIENCY)." Description:
The Open Library:
An experimental design was used to compare the rate of universal precautions related behaviors between nurses who participate in computer-assisted instruction related to universal precautions. In addition, this study explored the following research question: Is there a relationship between the rate of universal precautions related behaviors and (a) demographic and experiential characteristics of subjects, (b) perceived susceptibility and severity, (c) perceived benefits and barriers, (d) unstructured cues to action, and (e) beliefs about self-efficacy? The Health Belief Model was used as the conceptual framework for this study. Data were collected utilizing two instruments: (a) the Beliefs Assessment of Bloodborne Diseases and Universal Precautions (J. Turner, personal communication, 1992), and (b) the Universal Precautions Assessment Tool (Gauthier et al., 1991). The study population consisted of registered nurses. There were two groups with 30 subjects per group. Using analysis of variance, the null hypothesis that there is no statistically significant difference in the rate of universal precautions related behaviors between nurses who participate in computer-assisted instruction related to universal precautions and those who do not was rejected. Multiple regression was used to analyze the research question and none of the variables were significant. In addition, none of the variables differed significantly in mean between the experimental and control groups.
