This study explores the relationship between subjective time perception and the sense of agency during joint actions involving both human-human and human-computer pairs. Participants will use individual force feedback devices to press buttons in a virtual environment. After each button press, a brief delay precedes an auditory tone, and participants are asked to estimate the duration of this delay. Three experimental conditions are used: (1) participants control their own pointer independently; (2) participants share control with a computer, with the computer guiding the pointer toward a button in a mechanistic and uncompromising manner; and (3) participants jointly control a single pointer in the same environment. Naturalistic physical feedback is provided so participants can feel the button press as well as the influence of their partner—human or computer—on the movement. At the end of the experiment, participants complete a questionnaire assessing their subjective sense of control in each condition. The primary aim is to investigate how different forms joint control relate to the reported sense of agency and to the intentional binding effect. It is hypothesized that actions performed individually compared to actions performed with a dominating artificial partner (i.e. one that has overwhelming influence over the action outcome) will reflect the typical contrast between intentional and non-intentional actions in terms of reported sense of agency and temporal binding. Additionally, it is expected that joint action with a human partner will produce a weaker binding effect than solo action, but a stronger effect than joint action with a computer partner. In the human-human joint control condition, participants’ subjective reports of agency are expected to vary. We hypothesize that participants who report a stronger sense of agency will also exhibit stronger intentional binding effects. Thus, binding scores will also be compared between participants grouped by high vs. low reported agency. Finally, an exploratory analysis will examine how the physical dynamics of pressing actions, reported sense of agency, and intentional binding effects interrelate. This may provide deeper insight into how shared control, feedback, and perceived authorship influence our experience of agency in collaborative and semi-automated contexts.
