          Die Erzählung Ein Landarzt von Franz Kafka entstand im Jahr 1917 und wurde 1918 veröffentlicht. Im Jahre 1919 erschien das Buch Ein Landarzt mit der Erzählung gleichen Titels und dreizehn weiteren Prosatexten. Kafka selbst bezeichnete "Ein Landarzt" (die einzelne Erzählung, nicht die Sammlung) als eine der wenigen wirklich gelungenen Erzählungen von ihm. Zweifellos zeichnet sich diese Geschichte auch tatsächlich durch meisterliches dichterisches Können aus. Doch angesichts der zahlreichen anderen hervorragenden Erzählungen offenbart Kafkas Einschätzung von "Ein Landarzt" seinen hohen Anspruch an sich selbst, der im übrigen als Argument für die Ernsthaftigkeit der Anweisung Kafkas an Max Brod angeführt werden kann, wonach Brod nach Kafkas Tod den Großteil des Gesamtwerkes vernichten sollte.           This story, about a man who wakes up transformed into a bug and the repercussions it has on his life and the people around him, has intrigued me for many years. The translation is by Ian Johnston, not the translator that is in Gutenberg; I like Johnston's more. What does it mean? [Spoiler possibly]In my mind it is not complicated at all and is most probably an autobiography of how Kafka himself had experienced his early life living with his parents. Kafka describes how he had experienced his parents’ financial and emotional exploitation's of him, to the point of detaching from them and thereby ceasing to be their son (the real metamorphosis). Gregor’s metamorphosis is that of Kafka’s being an obedient son, subserviently paying for his parents’ narcissistic needs with his own life, into being a disobedient one—as if he had become a ‘piece of vermin’. Gregor’s parents possessed a large sum of money in savings, which symbolizes the needlessness of Gregor’s exploitation. In other words, the parents did not love him for who he was, but for his loyal willingness to undergo this exploitation. Reduced to vermin, Gregor can (or will) no longer financially benefit his parents. It is the parents that caused Gregor’s/Kafka’s metamorphosis. The debt Gregor intended to repay his parents symbolizes the emotional debt many adult children continue to feel towards their elderly parents for the love and care they have provided. Sister Grete, at first siding with her brother against their unfriendliest father, eventually switches sides after her brother’s metamorphosis, conveniently seizing first place in the sibling hierarchy, a reference to Kafka’s relationship with one of his siblings. The reason why the book continues to enjoy popularity among large audiences of readers, in my opinion, is because they recognize themselves in Gregor Samsa, which makes it all the more astounding how many ‘expert’ interpretations attempt to distract students of Kafka away from the most likely one. I know that some of our absolute best LibriVox readers have already recorded this marvelous story but this but it has also been on my list of "yearn to record" things for a long time and for my personal and entirely selfish pleasure now is the time to do it before I get any older or another flood hits us.

          La metamorfosis (Die Verwandlung, en su título original en alemán) es una novela escrita por Franz Kafka en 1912. La historia trata sobre Gregorio Samsa, cuya repentina transformación en un enorme insecto dificulta cada vez más la comunicación de su entorno social con él, hasta que es considerado intolerable por su familia y finalmente perece.<br><br>La primera traducción de La Metamorfosis en español apareció publicada en dos partes, en la revista La Revista de Occidente, en el año 1925. La primera de ellas en el número VIII y la segunda parte, en el IX de la misma revista. En la revista no figura el nombre del traductor; simplemente se señala que el autor del texto es Franz Kafka.           Aus heiterem Himmel sieht sich der Prokurist Josef K. eines Verbrechens angeklagt. Die Art der Anklage wird ihm nicht mitgeteilt, auch nähere Einzelheiten über das Gericht erfährt er nicht, außer, dass es auf den Dachböden heruntergekommener Vorstadthäuser tagt. Dennoch wird von ihm erwartet, dass er seinen Prozess ordentlich führt. Bekannte, die von seinem Prozess erfahren, bieten ihre Hilfe an, aber im Endeffekt kämpft K. praktisch alleine gegen ein übermächtigen und unbekannten Gegner, und der Ausgang des Prozesses bleibt im Dunkeln... <br><br> <em>Der Process</em> ist ein Romanfragment von Franz Kafka (1883 - 1924). Viele Kapitel sind episodenhaft und können in verschiedenen Reihenfolgen gelesen werden. Die Reihenfolge in diesem Hörbuch entspricht dem der Erstveröffentlichung, 1925. Das Kapitel "Im Dom" beinhaltet die Parabel 'Vor dem Gesetz", die bereits 1915 erschienen ist. Zu Lebzeiten war Franz Kafka nicht sehr erfolgreich. Erst die posthumen Veröffentlichungen seiner Schriften durch Max Brod (gegen den ausdrücklichen Wunsch des Autors) verschafften ihm Anerkennung. Heute zählt Franz Kafka zu den Größen der Weltliteratur, und seine surrealistischen Erzählungen gaben einem ganzen Literaturtyp den Namen "kafkaesk". (Zusammenfassung von Availle)
