Calf, gilded spine on 4 bars. Includes frontispiece portrait of Samuel Butler, head- and tailpieces, initials. Owner's signature (edited) dated April 9th 1716 on last blank verso. Some of the parts have special title page and imprint dated 1714. Literary hacks forged Samuel Butler, trading on his immense popularity. The present work is riddled with such ‘extras.’ Only three of the pieces are by Butler. See G. Watson & I. Willison (eds.), New Cambridge Bibliography of English Literature. 5 vols.
