In mid 2001, The Codebreakers formed and created an eclectic brand of energetic pop/rock music which in may 2002, they unveiled to Melbourne audiences. With Jim on guitar, Rob on bass and Anton on drums, The Codebreakers' sound raised a few eyebrows around the inner city. Highlights include playing with bands like The Pictures, The Cants and Muzzy Pep. Recording of the first EP soon commenced in October 2002. Approaching the recording with a DIY ethic - using a combination of 8-track 1/4" tape and hard disk recording - One Perfect Day was produced over several months and has since been widely distributed and downloaded. Many copies have included a remix created by Ping, of the demo track Tightrope, created on a 4-track in the early days of The Codebreakers that has to be heard. In early 2003, experimentation with the sound lead to the adding of varied instruments, also collaboration with guitarist Sam Henley brought a new dynamic that has lead to many confused comparisons with bands like The Jam, The Velvet Underground and New Order. Recording of The Kitchen Sink Sessions began late 2003 at Rancho Cumbo with the technical expertise of Nao Anzai. After sporadic recording sessions overthree months a fresh matured sound emerged. Final mixing and over dubbing was completed March 2004 at the boys very own River Street studio and 10ham studio. Full of beatlesque meleodies and vocals from the Reed/Dylan school, the EP neatly captures The Cb's sound. Ranging from the twanged yet ruckus guitar-pop of Goodbye Mrs. Henry, to the melancholic but uplifting psychedelic-waltz of Rise Above and the fuzz coated punk-pop that is Alright!. Live, The Codebreakers as a three piece have the punters dancing to the pounding rhythms, humming along to catchy hooks and smirking at the bad rock maneuvers. <p></p>
