This innovative Harlem middle school stresses community-based partnerships and mentoring to develop leaders in mathematics, science, and technology. The Mott Hall School services 450 gifted students (grades 4-8) who are 80 percent Latino, 17 percent African American, and over 60 percent female. The STARS (student apprenticeships in research) model for 7th and 8th graders exposes underrepresented minorities and girls to careers in mathematics and science.
