THE WRITING IS ON THE WALL We have all heard the saying, “the Writing is on the Wall”. It means there is clear evidence that something bad is going to happen. We might use it when someone is going to lose their job and everybody sees it coming. The phrase originated on the night that the Babylonian Empire, started by Nebuchadnezzar, fell to the Cyrus the Great, king of the Persians. This story is found in Daniel Chapter 5. In it we learn how a once great nation fell. The fall of Babylon shows how nations today might fall, or how we as individuals might fall. We should be careful how we use what  belongs  to God That includes us…we are His. Daniel told the  truth , even though it was  bad  news, and could have even  cost  him his life.  Our truth is that Jesus is the  only  way.  That is  truth  that can come with a  cost . Main Point:  Being a  disciple  of Jesus comes with a  cost …are you willing to  pay ?

In his collection <i>Plum Pudding</i>, Christopher Morley included two pieces about an unprepossessing mutt named “Haphazard Gissing I” with a gift for mischief. In <i>The Powder of Sympathy</i>, that mutt appeared three times. In between those two collections, Morley made Gissing the hero of his own novel, in which he adopts three puppies, has several career changes, and goes hunting for the meaning of life (“where the blue begins”). “It was strange, since Gissing was so pleasantly situated in life, that he got into these curious adventures that I have to relate.
