Background and Objectives Occupational stress is commonly defined as the harmful physical and emotional responses that occur when the demands of the job exceed the capabilities, needs or resources of the worker. The main aim of the study was to find out the occupational stress of IT employees who are working from home. Research Design and Samples The research design adopted by the researcher is descriptive in nature. Snow ball Sampling method was adopted and the sample size was 60 consisting of both male and female belonging to Coimbatore district. Tools of data collection Self structured Interview Schedule was used by the researcher to obtain Socio demographic data. Occupational stress index OSI developed by A.K. Srivastava and A.P. Singh was used to find out the occupational stress level of IT employees. This study conclude that 16.7 of the respondents are moderate level of occupational stress, 70.0 of the respondents are good level of occupational stress and 13.3 of the respondents are poor level of occupational stress. We are using a longitudinal survey study to test our assumptions about the relationships between working from home and returning to work after sick leave, that we have included in a guideline for embedding working from home in return to work trajectories (based on a prior study).

The study examines the relationship of home office usage and flexibility in choosing the workplace on work engagement, with autonomy considered as a moderating factor. A two-week diary study will be conducted to capture daily fluctuations in work engagement.

The study will analyse data from two points in time during the COVID pandemic and how work has changed in terms of work intensification, procrastination, irritation, working from home and social support. We postulate that work intensification, perceived as a stressor, threatens well-being (irritation) and performance (procrastination) and that this is more severe when working from home. However, the role of social support becomes more important as an additional resource to mitigate the potential loss spiral.

New research has revealed that long Covid has become one of the main causes of long-term staff absences among a quarter of UK employers. The Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) found that 26% of companies now cite the condition as a main cause of extended absence, But Punch Taverns' Hugh Osmond says "It's more a reluctance to return to work."
