What can I say about this one? Cosmology of Kyoto is a dark, esoteric odyssey into a world created from the spirits and stories of Heian-era Japan. It's maintained a cult classic status for decades now, being an early open-world experience as you wander the ancient city, fighting off demons and monsters as they prowl this accursed world. It's an icon of the horror genre for a reason, and it's a shame it isn't more widely available.

This is Dracula in London , a game that was originally released for IBM compatibles in 1988. This version is made for Windows 3.1 computers in 1993. Here's In The 1st Degree, released in 1995 by Broderbund in collaboration with Adair & Armstrong. For some things in the 1990s, you just kind of had to be there. One such thing was the infamous trial of O.J. Simpson - everyone had an opinion on it, everyone knew its key figures, and - for its day - everyone made their own legal argument.  Out of that came an almost immediate boom of courtroom & legal dramas, designed specifically for this new generation of armchair lawyers. It's hard not to see shades of that in In The 1st Degree, where you play as a prosecutor trying to prove that the defendant, an artist named James Tobin, killed his business partner Zachary Barnes and then staged it to look like self-defense. That's partially out of the number of parallels between the two cases - the defendant being a high-profile socialite, the racially charged nature of the proceedings (here being a white murderer and a black victim), and the constantly televised proceedings of the trial, reported back to you here between each day to give a brief overview of your performance with the previous testimony. Speaking of the TVs, this game is probably one of my favorite integrations of that unified "FMV over stills" style distinctive of many PC games from around this time. When the actors are performing against a backdrop, the integration is incredibly seamless, and the usage of displays around the city to tell the story via newscasts is incredibly clever in the way it follows the protagonist, Prosecutor Granger, around. (Keep an eye out, too, for several other Broderbund easter eggs in these scenes, most notably from Carmen Sandiego.)  The acting here is also superb, especially from the actors who play Ruby and Yvonne. I don't want to spoil the plot too much, but if you really break these characters down on the stand, the resulting scenes are really powerful. In the 1st Degree was one of the final works of director Peter Adair, who was likely best known for his 1977 film Word is Out: Stories of Some of Our Lives. It was one of the first documentaries to depict LGBTQ+ people in a positive light. Less than a year after finishing the game, he would pass away due to complications of AIDS in June of 1996. He was 52 years old.

This documentation describes the Diagnostic Analyzer for Gearboxes (DAG) software for performing fault diagnosis of gearboxes. First, the user would construct a graphical representation of the gearbox using the gear, bearing, shaft, and sensor tools contained in the DAG software. Next, a set of vibration features obtained by processing the vibration signals recorded from the gearbox using a signal analyzer is required. Given this information, the DAG software uses an unsupervised neural network referred to as the Fault Detection Network (FDN) to identify the occurrence of faults, and a pattern classifier called Single Category-Based Classifier (SCBC) for abnormality scaling of individual vibration features. The abnormality-scaled vibration features are then used as inputs to a Structure-Based Connectionist Network (SBCN) for identifying faults in gearbox subsystems and components. The weights of the SBCN represent its diagnostic knowledge and are derived from the structure of the gearbox graphically presented in DAG. The outputs of SBCN are fault possibility values between 0 and 1 for individual subsystems and components in the gearbox with a 1 representing a definite fault and a 0 representing normality. This manual describes the steps involved in creating the diagnostic gearbox model, along with the options and analysis tools of the DAG software.
