2NASA Technical Reports Server (NTRS) 19780011678: Aeroelastic Analysis Of Wind Energy Conversion Systems

By

An aeroelastic investigation of horizontal axis wind turbines is described. The study is divided into two simpler areas; (1) the aeroelastic stability of a single blade on a rigid tower; and (2) the mechanical vibrations of the rotor system on a flexible tower. Some resulting instabilities and forced vibration behavior are described.

3A Review On Energy Storage Systems For Mitigation Power Fluctuations In Wind Turbine Based Power System

By

Wind energy is in exhaustible renewable. Unlike conventional fossil fuels, wind energy is clean, abundant energy that will be available for future generations. However, wind speed is a highly stochastic component which can deviate very quickly. Output power of the wind energy conversion system (WECS) is proportional to the cube of wind speed, which causes the output power fluctuation of the wind turbine. The power fluctuation causes frequency fluctuation and voltage flicker inside the power grid. In order to reduce the power fluctuation, various approaches have been proposed in the last decades. This article deals with the review of several power smoothing strategies for the WECS. Power smoothing methods of the WECS are primarily separated in to two categories such as energy storage based power smoothing method and without energy storage based power smoothing method. The main objectives of this paper are to introduce operating principles for different power smoothing methods Sarvesh Garg | Geena Kalpesh"A Review on Energy Storage Systems for Mitigation Power Fluctuations in Wind Turbine based Power System" Published in International Journal of Trend in Scientific Research and Development (ijtsrd), ISSN: 2456-6470, Volume-1 | Issue-4 , June 2017, URL: http://www.ijtsrd.com/papers/ijtsrd170.pdf Article URL: http://www.ijtsrd.com/engineering/electrical-engineering/170/a-review-on-energy-storage-systems-for-mitigation-power-fluctuations-in-wind-turbine-based-power-system/sarvesh-garg

6Optimization Of Wind Energy Conversion Systems – An Artificial Intelligent Approach

By

The environmentally friendly wind energy conversion system has become one of the most studied branches of sustainable energy. Like many other power generator, maximum power point tracking is an easy yet effective way to boost the efficiency of the conversion system. In this research, a modified Electromagnetism-like Mechanism Algorithm (EM) is proposed for the maximum power point tracking (MPPT) scheme of a micro-wind energy conversion system (WECS). In contrast with the random search steps used in a conventional EM, modified EM is enhanced with a Split, Probe, and Compare (SPC-EM) feature which ensures solutions with higher accuracies quicker by not having to scrutinize the search in details at the beginning stages of the iterations. Experiments and simulations are carried to test the SPC-EM in tracking the maximum power point under different wind profiles. Results indicate that the performance of the modified EM showed significant improvement over the conventional EM in the benchmarking. It can thus be concluded that based on the simulations, the SPC-EM performs well as an MPPT scheme in a micro-WECS.

7NASA Technical Reports Server (NTRS) 19780011690: Dynamics Of Drive Systems For Wind Energy Conversion

By

Calculations are performed to determine the dynamic effects of mechanical power transmission from the nacelle of a horizontal axis wind machine to the ground or to an intermediate level. It is found that resonances are likely at 2 or 4/REV, but they occur at low power only, and seem easily correctable. Large reductions are found in the harmonic torque inputs to the generator at powers near rated.

9Cost-effective Optimization Of Unified Power Quality Conditioner In Wind Energy Conversion Systems Using A Hybrid EnHBA-GWO Algorithm

The rapid integration of wind energy conversion systems (WECS) into modern power networks has led to pressing power quality concerns, including voltage instability, harmonic distortion, and reactive power imbalance. To address these challenges, this study introduces a hybrid optimization strategy that combines the global search capabilities of the enhanced honey badger algorithm (EnHBA) with the local exploitation strengths of the grey wolf optimizer (GWO) for the best operational parameters of a unified power quality conditioner (UPQC). Extensive simulations in MATLAB Simulink demonstrate significant improvement in performance. The proposed method achieves 95% energy efficiency, a power factor of 0.99, and total harmonic distortion ( THD) down to 5%, meeting IEEE 519-2022 standards. This outcome reflects an effective balance between cost and power quality performance, highlighting the potential of hybrid optimization to improve grid stability and efficiency in renewable energy environments .

10Non-ideal Torque Control Of Wind Turbine Systems: Impacts On Annual Energy Production

By

We discuss non-ideal torque control in wind turbine systems (WTS). Most high-level controllers generate a reference torque which is then send to the underlying electrical drive system (generator+inverter) of the WTS to steer the turbine/generator to its optimal operation point (depending on the wind speed). The energy production heavily depends on the mechanical power (i.e. the product of rotational speed and generator torque). However, since torque sensors in the MW range are not available or extremely expensive, the torque controllers are implemented as feedforward controllers and, therefore, are inherently sensitive to parameter variations/uncertainties. Based on real wind data and a dynamical WTS model, we discuss causes and impacts of non-ideal (feedforward) torque control on the energy production and the gross earnings.

15DTIC ADA168272: Wind Energy Conversion Systems: Evaluation Of Reliability, Availability, And Maintainability At Various Locations

By

This report describes the results of long-term field evaluation of four horizontal-axis, upwind, small wind energy conversion systems (SWECS) configured in an application mode. The long-term field evaluation of these SWECS covers performance, reliability, maintenance, maintainability, and availability data. Results of these evaluations have proven SWECS to be a viable source of alternative energy, but they must be properly designed and maintained to operate in a highly corrosive marine environment. The SWECS require frequent preventive maintenance, depending on design and location, including corrosion control at least every 3 months. The following recommendations resulted from the field evaluations: (1) do not use sliprings and bearings, if at all possible; (2) use sealed and self-lubricating bearings; (3) ensure that the tower is guyed and hinged for easy maintenance; (4) as much as possible enclose all components exposed directly to the marine environment; (5) ensure that all controls are passive and fail safe; and (6) improve the programming of the synchronous inverter so that it matches generator impedance at all wind speeds. Keywords: Wind power; and Renewable energy sources.

17Novel Strategy For Fault E-diagnosis Of Wind Energy Conversion Systems Using Wavelet Analysis Based On Rt-Lab And Arduino

By

The diagnosis of wind energy conversion systems (WECS) turns out to be necessary because of their relatively high cost of operation and maintenance. Wind turbines are hard-to-access structures, and they are often located in remote areas. Therefore, a remote diagnosis (e-diagnosis) is required. This paper proposes an alternative approach for the e-diagnosis of a WECS based on the discrete wavelet transform (DWT) and frequency analysis of the aero generator stator currents. To validate this approach, real-time hardware in the loop (HIL) is used to simulate in real-time the mathematical model of the induction generator on the OPAL-RT OP5600 platform to generate the stator currents and the rotor speed. The DWT is applied to the current signal, to generate the DWT signal, which has a huge number of points that are not supported for direct transmission by the Arduino Mega RobotDyn because of its limited sample time. The absolute values of the DWT peak points (MDWT) are sent as point’s packages form to the diagnosis station via the ESP8266 integrated Wi-Fi board of the Arduino Mega RobotDyn to monitor the SCIG states and determine the number of broken bars.

19Resilient Energy Systems : Renewables: Wind, Solar, Hydro

20A Review On Energy Storage Systems For Mitigation Power Fluctuations In Wind Turbine Based Power System

The main objectives of this paper are to introduce operating principles for different power smoothing methods Sarvesh Garg | Geena Kalpesh"A Review on Energy Storage Systems for Mitigation Power Fluctuations in Wind Turbine based Power System" Published in International Journal of Trend in Scientific Research and Development (ijtsrd), ISSN: 2456-6470, Volume-1 | Issue-4 , June 2017, URL: http://www.ijtsrd.com/papers/ijtsrd170.pdf  http://www.ijtsrd.com/engineering/electrical-engineering/170/a-review-on-energy-storage-systems-for-mitigation-power-fluctuations-in-wind-turbine-based-power-system/sarvesh-garg

21Simulation And Analysis Of Wind Energy Potential For Turbine Systems In Pekanbaru-Indonesia Based On MATLAB Simulink

The widespread use of electricity today, which is primarily generated from fossil fuels, results in significant environmental consequences due to excessive consumption. Renewable energy has been proposed as a solution to mitigate this issue. In Indonesia, particularly in Pekanbaru City, the demand for electricity currently exceeds the supply. However, this region has substantial potential for renewable energy sources. This study presents the modeling and analysis of wind energy, specifically wind turbine systems, using MATLAB Simulink. The methodology involves identifying existing problems, collecting technical data relevant to Pekanbaru and turbine components, and designing the turbine system within MATLAB Simulink. The results of this system indicate a mechanical power output of 1,191 watts, along with a calculated torque of 48.63 Nm. These findings suggest that the system is suitable for small-scale electricity needs. Further research and considerations are necessary to optimize the design and application of turbine systems for sustainable energy production. By improving the efficiency and scalability of wind energy systems, Indonesia can better address its energy deficit while reducing the environmental impacts associated with fossil fuel consumption.

Vertical - and horizontal-axis systems were discussed both in theory and in practice. Applications ranged from wind forms each with hundreds of megawatt units to the use of Cretan windmills to provide water for cattle. Wing energy conversion units have been operated in several configurations and the theory of their performances is sufficiently advanced to allow design for fabrication. The trends are towards larger units for municipal power systems and smaller units for domestic use. In the former case, the behavior of large wind turbines operating in large arrays, and the output (with and without storage) of several such arrays when geographically dispersed, has yet to be well understood. The field has reached a level of maturity characterized by such factors as economics, environmental impact, and public acceptance.

26Design And Control Of A Grid-connected Solar-wind Hybrid Sustainable Energy Generation Systems Using DFIG

By

An optimal control of a grid-connected solar-wind hybrid scheme for the electricity generation system by utilizing both wind and solar renewable energy in a remote region that is inaccessible to the electricity grid. The control and assessment of a hybrid sustainable energy generation system power system that supplies three-phase, four-line loads as well as a battery array are presented in this research work. Wind energy conversion system (WECS) is comprised of a doubly-fed induction generator (DFIG) and two pulse width modulation (PWM) voltage source converters, namely the grid side converter (GSC) and the rotor side converter (RSC), which are linked together via a DC-link and are equipped with a technique for maximum power point tracking (MPPT). The grid voltage-oriented control strategy is employed to provide a consistent DC-bus voltage for the GSC and to regulate the reactive power on the power grid. Even the difference in voltage and frequency can be controlled with this novel strategy. The stator voltage-oriented vector technique is designed in the RSC control strategy, resulting in effective regulation of reactive and active power at the stator as well as an MPPT obtained by controlling the optimal torque. The hybrid sustainable energy generating system (HSEGS) simulation model is designed to have a capacity of 5 kW, and its efficiency is evaluated using the MATLAB/ Simulink platform and demonstrated in a variety of circumstances.

27Wind Energy Systems: Linux Edition

By

Wind Energy Systems is a textbook that was written by Dr. Gary L. Johnson, which was published by Prentice Hall in 1985.  The book was eventually discontinued, and the rights to the book were returned to the author.  Afterwards, he allowed free access to the literature online.  This is a variant of the original book, which was modified by the author to cooperate with Linux machines.  The book is being uploaded to the Internet Archive after his death, and before it becomes lost forever.

28Comparison Of Z-Source EZ-Source And TZ-Source Inverter Systems For Wind Energy Conversion

In this paper, three different impedance source inverters: Z-source inverter, EZ- source inverter, TZ-Source for wind energy conversion system (WECS) were investigated. Total output power and THD of each of these systems are calculated. The proposed system can boost the output voltage effectively when the low output voltage of the generator is available at low wind speed. This system has higher performance, less components, increased efficiency and reduced cost. These features make the proposed TZSI based system suitable for the wind conversion systems. MATLAB simulink model for wind generator system is developed and simulation studies are successfully performed. The simulation is done using MATLAB and the simulation results are presented. This comparison shows that the TZ-source inverter is very promising for wind energy conversion system.

In order to sustain monetary growth, the introduction of renewable energy into the electricity grid is crucial especially for many foreign African locations. Thus, in order to reap sustainable strength, these foreign locations may also outfit their airport electrical equipment with advanced synthetic intelligence technologies. For a distributive hybrid solar strength grid, the paper attempts to propose an actual time energy management algorithm. It continues with the combining of photovoltaic and wind energy for network simulation. As a function of the number of wind aero mills and photovoltaic solar panels, a multi goal approach is proposed to optimize the spectral efficiency of the location and the energy performance. For the MATLAB software simulation, radio criteria for Cell Wireless Interoperability Medium Access WiMAX technologies are taken into account. By

A comprehensive computer program for the modeling of wind energy and storage systems utilizing any combination of five types of storage (pumped hydro, battery, thermal, flywheel and pneumatic) was developed. The level of detail of Simulation Model for Wind Energy Storage (SIMWEST) is consistent with a role of evaluating the economic feasibility as well as the general performance of wind energy systems. The software package consists of two basic programs and a library of system, environmental, and load components. The first program is a precompiler which generates computer models (in FORTRAN) of complex wind source storage application systems, from user specifications using the respective library components. The second program provides the techno-economic system analysis with the respective I/O, the integration of systems dynamics, and the iteration for conveyance of variables. SIMWEST program, as described, runs on the UNIVAC 1100 series computers.

39Modeling, Simulation And Control Of A Doubly-fed Induction Generator For Wind Energy Conversion Systems

By

In recent years, wind energy has become one of the most promising renewable energy sources. Various wind turbine concepts with different generator topologies have been developed to convert this abundant energy into electric power. The doubly-fed induction generator (DFIG) is currently the most common type of generator used in wind farms. Usually the DFIG generator is a wound rotor induction machine, where the stator circuit is directly connected to grid while the rotor’s winding is connected to the grid via a three-phase converter. This paper describes an approach for the independent control of the active and reactive powers of the variable-speed DFIG. The simulation model including a 1.5 MW-DFIG driven by a wind turbine, a PWM back-to-back inverter and the proposed control strategy are developed and implemented using MATLAB/Simulink/SimPowerSystems environment.

42Data Structuring For The Ontological Modelling Of Wind Energy Systems

By

Small wind projects encounter difficulties to be efficiently deployed, partly because wrong way data and information are managed. Ontologies can overcome the drawbacks of partially available, noisy, inconsistent, and heterogeneous data sources, by providing a semantic middleware between low level data and more general knowledge. In this paper, we engineer an ontology for the wind energy domain using description logic as technical instrumentation. We aim to integrate corpus of heterogeneous knowledge, both digital and human, in order to help the interested user to speed-up the initialization of a small-scale wind project. We exemplify one use case scenario of our ontology, that consists of automatically checking whether a planned wind project is compliant or not with the active regulations.

43On Sensor Fusion For Airborne Wind Energy Systems

By

A study on filtering aspects of airborne wind energy generators is presented. This class of renewable energy systems aims to convert the aerodynamic forces generated by tethered wings, flying in closed paths transverse to the wind flow, into electricity. The accurate reconstruction of the wing's position, velocity and heading is of fundamental importance for the automatic control of these kinds of systems. The difficulty of the estimation problem arises from the nonlinear dynamics, wide speed range, large accelerations and fast changes of direction that the wing experiences during operation. It is shown that the overall nonlinear system has a specific structure allowing its partitioning into sub-systems, hence leading to a series of simpler filtering problems. Different sensor setups are then considered, and the related sensor fusion algorithms are presented. The results of experimental tests carried out with a small-scale prototype and wings of different sizes are discussed. The designed filtering algorithms rely purely on kinematic laws, hence they are independent from features like wing area, aerodynamic efficiency, mass, etc. Therefore, the presented results are representative also of systems with larger size and different wing design, different number of tethers and/or rigid wings.

50Hybrid MPPT-based Predictive Speed Control Model For Variable Speed PMSG Wind Energy Conversion Systems

By

In this research, a predictive speed control (PSC) technique based on permanent magnet synchronous generators is proposed for variable-speed wind energy conversion systems (VS-WECS) (PMSG). The control approach that has been developed makes it possible to regulate mechanical and electrical variables concurrently within the context of a single cost function. The power converter will then use the optimum switching state that will result in the lowest possible cost function when it has been chosen. The maximum power point tracking (MPPT) algorithms used in the proposed control approach are combined in order to achieve optimum efficiency. As a direct result of this, the conventional cascade structure of proportional-integral (PI) controllers has been removed, which results in an improvement in the system's dynamic responsiveness. In addition, predictive current control, also known as PCC, is implemented on the grid-side converter, also known as the GSC, in order to accomplish decoupled grid current control. Using MATLAB/SIMULINK, we analyze the performance of the suggested control methods and compare it to the performance of a traditional PI speed controller. The findings demonstrated that the MPC controller is superior than the PI controller in terms of its ability to handle system dynamics.

1Spirit of Islam: A History of the Evolution and Ideals of Islam, with a Life of the Prophet

By

Syed Ameer Ali was a prominent Indian jurist, author and political leader during the British Raj. In <i>The Spirit of Islam</i> he draws on his broad knowledge of Western historical research and Islamic sources to highlight the enlightened and socially progressive tendencies in the Islamic tradition. Some parts the text counter the Orientalist scholarship of the time, which was largely hostile to Islam, while others articulate the author's vision of Islam as a modern faith. His discussion of sectarian controversies is influenced by Shia beliefs. Pronunciation note: the Arabic words and names found in the text are pronounced based on their native form, rather than the spelling used by the author, which reflects Persian and Indian pronunciation.
