Vision is one of the most dominant senses used by humans. Additionally, humans are often moving through their environment. For the visual processing system to work optimally, the input of information obtained through the eye must be clear. Perceiving motion accurately are critical to humans’ daily lives. Once perceived, visual information must be interpreted in a meaningful way before any subsequent motor action can take place. Factors that help to enhance motion perception are visual acuity and eye movements. Visual acuity is the sharpness of vision and the ability to discern letters at a given distance. Dynamic visual acuity (DVA) is the ability of the visual system to resolve detail when there is relative motion between the target and observer. DVA will be measured using a tumbling E task. This is similar to the Landolt ring task. The tumbling E task has the letter 'E' oriented in one of four orientations, where the limbs of the 'E' are pointing up, down, left, or right. Two sets of Eye trackers will be used, one to measure eye movements and vision strategy during the DVA task and the other eye tracker to measure smooth pursuit eye movements during a step-ramp task. One way to study motion perception is through the use of models. These models include dynamic sports and action video games which rely on large amounts of moving visual information. The purpose of this study is to examine the vision strategies athletes, video gamer players (VGPs), and non athletes/non video game players (control group) use during the DVA task. Athletes and VGPs are expected to perform significantly better than the control group on the DVA task. Specifically, when the DVA task is at 30 deg/sec in the random and horizontal motion.

The flight instrumentation included a localizer and a flight director which was used to capture and to maintain a two-segment glide slope. A closed-circuit television display of a STOLport provided visual cues during simulations of the approach and landing. The decoupled longitudinal controls used constant prefilter and feedback gains to provide steady-state decoupling of flight-path angle, pitch angle, and forward velocity. The pilots were enthusiastic about the decoupled longitudinal controls and believed that the simulator motion was an aid in evaluating the decoupled controls, although a minimum turbulence level with root-mean-square gust intensity of 0.3 m/sec (1 ft/sec) was required to mask undesirable characteristics of the moving-base simulator.

Background & objective : The main purpose of this study was to analyze the effects of training and specificity on the oxygen uptake using bicycle ergometry and to see if aerobic exercise can increase cognitive processing speed by using reaction time. Methods : VO2max and Reaction time of 31 national level runners was compared with that of 31 controls. Runners were subdivided into two groups, group A (>2yrs & < 3yrs of training) and group B (>3yrs & < 10yrs of training).Correlation of VO2max with Audio Visual Reaction Time was done. Results: VO2max was found to be higher for runners and was statistically significant. Among runners VO2max was higher for group B players (seniors) and was statistically significant. Correlation analysis has shown negative correlation of VO2max with reaction time with statistically significant value for Click (Audio), Red and Green color in runners, Click (Audio) and Yellow color in controls. Interpretation & conclusion : Improvement in VO2max by regular practice will ultimately improve reaction time in turn improving the cognitive processing, speed and sports performance.

in addicts differed from non-addicted controls. The study employed an oculometer, which tracked and recorded eye movements without the subject's knowledge or any interference with his visual behavior, and a data processing system, which handled the large volume of data produced by tracking the eye at 60 frames a second. Analysis of the eye movement data revealed major differences between the rapid eye movements, fixation sequences and scan pattern of addicts and non-addicted control subjects. It appears that the significant differences between the eye movements of the addicts and the control subjects are due to motivational factors associated with the importance of the stimulus material; e.g., drug versus neutral items, basic differences in the physiological and central nervous system processes that regulate eye movements, and possible difference in reading skills and the ability to manipulate printed material. Extensions and application of the eye movement studies are discussed.
