The lack of adhesion of acrylic resin to the metal of the resin veneer restoration required methods of mechanical retention. Poor color stability due to percolation of oral fluids at the metal-resin interface and breakdown of the acrylic resin were factors that have limited the acceptance and widespread use of this restoration. These were due to a high differential in coefficients of thermal expansion between the resin and metal, high water sorption, and high polymerization shrinkage. Several new methods of retention have been developed to improve adhesion of the composite resin to metal. In addition, improvements made in composite resins make the composite-resin veneer restoration a viable solution when the metal-ceramic restoration is contra-indicated.

Introduction: A thirty one years old male patient attended our private dental clinic complaining of crowding in the mandibular six anterior teeth. The patient refused any kind of orthodontics treatment. Also he refused any kind of treatment includes teeth preparation. After extra and intra-oral examination, a diagnostic cast was fabricated to analyze the patient’s smile line. Despite the fact that most of the corrected cases for orthodontics measures carried by indirect ceramic veneers, a direct veneering layering technique has been considered as the treatment option for this case .So the aim of this study is to introduce an alternative method to orthodontic approach for the management of crowded mandibular anterior teeth. Materials and Methods: Empress direct material® was selected for this case to carry out direct veneering layering technique. It is a product of Ivoclar Vivadent Company. A wax up pattern was made on a diagnostic cast to analyze the smile line and to estimate the level of the mandibular arch to get the best final aesthetic result. All the six anterior teeth were etched with 37% phosphoric acid and a fifth generation bonding of ivoclar was used (Excite F)..)® Results: A cosmetically acceptable aesthetic smile line has been achieved and the de-arrangement of the crowding was corrected with an acceptable level. The patient was satisfied with the results. Conclusion: For some cases, direct composite veneer layering is suitable, hassle free and cost effective alternative to orthodontic treatment or traditional porcelain veneers, with reasonable aesthetic results.

A clinical crown preparation on a maxillary right central incisor dentoform tooth was made. Forty standardized wax patterns for a Dicor crown (control) and two different coping designs were cast, cerammed, and fit to their respective gypsum dies. Dicor Plus porcelain was applied to half of the specimens of two different substrate designs. All restorations were tacked to their respective dies to permit measurement of the marginal seal with a measuring microscope. The die casting assemblies were embedded in clear resin, sectioned faciolingually and mesiodistally, then measured in cross-section. Dicor restorations have acceptable physical properties, are locally and systemically biocompatible, have clinically acceptable fit, and, within the limitations of surface coloration, are esthetically pleasing. However, surface coloration does not take full advantage of laminated, multilayer porcelain build-up techniques. These techniques make possible the reproduction of more complex and intricate internal color characterizations seen in natural teeth. For this reason Dicor Plus porcelain was developed. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect on marginal seal of firing Dicor Plus porcelain to two different Dicor substrate designs.

Abstract Knowing how stresses are dissipated on the fixed implant-supported complex allows adequate treatment planning and better choice of the materials used for prosthesis fabrication.Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate the deformation suffered by cantilevered implant-supported fixed prostheses frameworks cast in silver-palladium alloy and coated with two occlusal veneering materials: acrylic resin or porcelain. Material and Methods: Two strain gauges were bonded to the inferior surface of the silver-palladium framework and two other were bonded to the occlusal surface of the prosthesis framework covered with ceramic and acrylic resin on each of its two halves. The framework was fixed to a metallic master model and a 35.2 N compression force was applied to the cantilever at 10, 15 and 20 mm from the most distal implant. The measurements of deformation by compression and tension were obtained. The statistical 2-way ANOVA test was used for individual analysis of the experiment variables and the Tukey test was used for the interrelation between all the variables (material and distance of force application). Results: The results showed that both variables had influence on the studied factors (deformation by compression and tension). Conclusion: The ceramic coating provided greater rigidity to the assembly and therefore less distortion compared with the uncoated framework and with the resin-coated framework. The cantilever arm length also influenced the prosthesis rigidity, causing higher deformation the farther the load was applied from the last implant.

Abstract This study evaluated the adhesion of zirconia core ceramics with their corresponding veneering ceramics, having different thermal expansion coefficients (TECs), when zirconia ceramics were coloured at green stage. Zirconia blocks (N=240; 6 mm×7 mm×7 mm) were manufactured from two materials namely, ICE Zirconia (Group 1) and Prettau Zirconia (Group 2). In their green stage, they were randomly divided into two groups. Half of the specimens were coloured with colouring liquid (shade A2). Three different veneering ceramics with different TEC (ICE Ceramic, GC Initial Zr and IPS e.max Ceram) were fired on both coloured and non-coloured zirconia cores. Specimens of high noble alloys (Esteticor Plus) veneered with ceramic (VM 13) (n=16) acted as the control group. Core–veneer interface of the specimens were subjected to shear force in the Universal Testing Machine (0.5 mm⋅min−1). Neither the zirconia core material (P=0.318) nor colouring (P=0.188) significantly affected the results (three-way analysis of variance, Tukey's test). But the results were significantly affected by the veneering ceramic (P=0.000). Control group exhibited significantly higher mean bond strength values (45.7±8) MPa than all other tested groups ((27.1±4.1)−(39.7±4.7) and (27.4±5.6)−(35.9±4.7) MPa with and without colouring, respectively) (P

Fluorosis is a very prevalent disease in India and presents with a variety of clinical appearances based on the severity from white spots to blackish discoloration leading to a grave functional and aesthetic jeopardy. There has been various treatment modalities formulated ranging from noninvasive (bleaching) to highly invasive options (crowns). This case describes the conservative combination of vital bleaching and direct composite veneers that can work miraculously in case of mild to moderate fluorosis thus rehabilitating not only the function and aesthetic of a patient but also rejuvenating the confidence of an individual.

Abstract PURPOSE: The objective of this study was to evaluate the clinical acceptability of all-ceramic crowns fabricated by the digital veneering method vis-à-vis the traditional method. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Zirconia specimens manufactures by two different manufacturing method, conventional vs digital veneering, with three different thickness (0.3 mm, 0.5 mm, 0.7 mm) were prepared for analysis. Color measurement was performed using a spectrophotometer for the prepared specimens. The differences in shade in relation to the build-up method were calculated by quantifying ΔE* (mean color difference), with the use of color difference equations representing the distance from the measured values L*, a*, and b*, to the three-dimensional space of two colors. Two-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) combined with a Tukey multiple-range test was used to analyze the data (α=0.05). RESULTS: In comparing means and standard deviations of L*, a*, and b* color values there was no significant difference by the manufacturing method and zirconia core thickness according to a two-way ANOVA. The color differences between two manufacturing methods were in a clinically acceptable range less than or equal to 3.7 in all the specimens. CONCLUSION: Based on the results of this study, a carefully consideration is necessary while selecting upper porcelain materials, even if it is performed on a small scale. However, because the color reproducibility of the digital veneering system was within the clinically acceptable range when comparing with conventional layering system, it was possible to estimate the possibility of successful aesthetic prostheses in the latest technology.
