1Boardwalk Empire: Chris Christie’s Unfinished Political Journey

By

Recorded at Fox News in NYC on October 28, 2021 Former New Jersey governor Chris Christie began his political career as a teenager watching Ronald Reagan and Gerald Ford joust for control of the Republican Party at the 1976 GOP convention. From there, he soon entered the University of Delaware and then received his JD degree from the Seton Hall University School of Law. He served as US attorney for New Jersey from 2002 to 2008 and as governor of New Jersey from 2010 to 2018. Gov. Christie ran for president briefly in 2018. The governor guides us through all of those—often embattled—chapters of his life in the course of this interview, including giving us his view of the Bridgegate scandal, and what it was like to be on the debate stage with Donald Trump in the 2016 Republican primary race. But it’s not all politics: we also cover the governor’s views on China, COVID policy, and domestic economic policy. Finally, while he doesn’t make any announcement about his future plans, Christie does describe why he might be the best choice to run—and win—in the 2024 presidential election. 2Unfinished Histories - Empire And Postcolonial Resonance In Central Africa And Belgium

Colonial memory and interdisciplinary memorialization across Congo, Rwanda, Burundi and Belgium Belgian colonialism was short-lived but left significant traces that are still felt in the twenty-first century. This book explores how the imperial past has lived on in Belgium, but also in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Rwanda and Burundi. The contributing authors approach colonial legacies from an interdisciplinary perspective and examine how literature, politics, the arts, the press, cinema, museal practices, architecture, and language policies – but also justice and ethics – have been used to critically revisit this period of African and European history. Whilst engaging with significant figures such as Sammy Baloji, Chokri Ben Chikha, Gaël Faye, François Kabasele, Alexis Kagame, Edmond Leplae, VY Mudimbe, Fiston Mwanza Mujila, Joseph Ndwaniye, and Sony Labou Tansi, this book also analyses the role of places such as the AfricaMuseum, Bujumbura, Colwyn Bay, Kongolo, and the Virunga Park to appraise the links between memory and the development of a postcolonial present. Contributors: Sarah Arens (University of Liverpool), Robert Burroughs (Leeds Beckett), Bambi Ceuppens (AfricaMuseum), Matthias De Groof (University of Antwerp), Catherine Gilbert (University of Newcastle), Chantal Gishoma (University of Bayreuth), Hannah Grayson (University of Stirling), Dónal Hassett (University of Cork), Sky Herington (University of Warwick), Nicki Hitchcott (University of St Andrews), Yvette Hutchison (University of Warwick), Albert Kasanda (Charles University, Prague), Maëline Le Lay (CNRS/ THALIM, Sorbonne nouvelle), Reuben Loffman (Queen Mary University of London), Caroline Williamson Sinalo (University of Cork) Ebook available in Open Access. 3A History Of The American Empire (Unfinished)

By

Very important note: It seems that as more time goes by, I realize that internet links are not always reliable as a source for writing this kind of short work. I don't know where the same links will point in a few years. They apparently are able to be followed from the PDF version, and likely in any download. In this case, I would strongly suggest that going forward any who download be quite circumspect about following the source links, as it is difficult to know where the links will lead as time goes by. An overabundance of caution is not a terrible thing. Consider this a disclaimer of sorts Intended as a short overview of American imperialism from the early days of the Republic, when the US invaded Canada, until the present. So far, the text ends around WWI. As of 3/8/12, a change of creative commons license. As this was written a few years ago now, it has come to my attention that some of the links do not direct to the original sources. I believe that the links are non-functioning within the document, even when downloaded, but none-the-less, I felt compelled to provide this disclaimer.

1Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection

By

Book's cover

Charles Darwin’s The Origin of Species (publ. 1859) is a pivotal work in scientific literature and arguably the pivotal work in evolutionary biology. The book’s full title is On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection, or the Preservation of Favoured Races in the Struggle for Life. It introduced the theory that populations evolve over the course of generations through a process of natural selection. It was controversial because it contradicted religious beliefs which underlay the then current theories of biology. Darwin’s book was the culmination of evidence he had accumulated on the voyage of the Beagle in the 1830s and added to through continuing investigations and experiments since his return. 2Voyage of the Beagle

By

Book's cover

The book, also known as Darwin's Journal of Researches, is a vivid and exciting travel memoir as well as a detailed scientific field journal covering biology, geology, and anthropology that demonstrates Darwin's keen powers of observation, written at a time when Western Europeans were still discovering and exploring much of the rest of the world. Although Darwin revisited some areas during the expedition, for clarity the chapters of the book are ordered by reference to places and locations rather than chronologically. With hindsight, ideas which Darwin would later develop into his theory of evolution by natural selection are hinted at in his notes and in the book (Summary from Wikipedia)<p>.

6Ontstaan der Soorten

By

By

Charles Darwin LL.B F.R.S was the discoverer of evolution and argued the role of "natural selection" in directing the evolution of species. Darwin also had an interest in the formation of soils (moulds) that began relatively early in his life, with a paper "On the Formation of Vegetable Moulds" delivered to the Geological Society of London in 1937. Darwin's last book, The Formation of Vegetable Moulds through the Action of Worms with Observations on their Habits, was completed in 1881. (Summary by gailtv)

10Expression of the Emotions in Man and Animals

By

Book's cover

The Expression of the Emotions in Man and Animals is a book by Charles Darwin, published in 1872, concerning genetically determined aspects of behaviour. It was published thirteen years after On the Origin of Species and alongside his 1871 book The Descent of Man, it is Darwin's main consideration of human origins. In this book, Darwin seeks to trace the animal origins of human characteristics, such as the pursing of the lips in concentration and the tightening of the muscles around the eyes in anger and efforts of memory. Darwin sought out the opinions of some eminent British psychiatrists, notably James Crichton-Browne, in the preparation of the book which forms Darwin's main contribution to psychology. - Summary by Availle

12Botanic Garden, a Poem in Two Parts. Part 1

By

Book's cover

Charles Darwin’s grandfather Erasmus was also a famous naturalist in his own day, in addition to being a celebrated poet. This is the first part of his popular science poem in heroic couplets intended to introduce botany to the English public. It serves as a general defense of scientific progress as a practical and artistic endeavor, laying the groundwork for its sequel poem on Linnaeus’ system of sexual selection in plants, Loves of the Plants. - Summary by Matthew Muñoz
