Screw feeders are devices suitable for handling a wide variety of bulk solids materials that have good flow ability characteristics and are often used as dosing feeders in food industry and agriculture. The manner in which material flows into the screw feeder affects the flow characteristics of the feeding hopper, the residence periods of the material in various locations in the bunker and thus the properties of the dosed material. The present paper will present some experimental results regarding the discharging profile of the mass flow screw feeders with variable geometrical design.

3Understanding Ultracold Neutron Production In Oxygen Solids From Volume And Temperature Dependent Yields

We present experimental data on ultracold neutron (UCN) production in solid oxygen from 5 K to 50 K. The experiment used 3 cells of different dimensions in order to study the excess UCN elastic scattering in s-O$_2$ due to source density non-uniformities. We present a combined $\chi^2$ analysis with the aid of Monte-Carlo simulations which contain the detailed physics of UCN transport as well as cold neutron attenuation. The results validate the UCN production and upscattering cross-sections extracted from the dynamic structure function derived from inelastic neutron scattering, and illustrate the role of magnetic scattering in enhancing UCN production in s-O$_2$.

Work directed toward understanding the high pressure properties of molecular solids and molecular surfaces deposited on hetrogeneous substrates is reported. The motivation, apart from expanding our basic knowledge about these systems, was to understand and predict the properties of new materials synthesized at high pressure, including pressure induced metallic and superconducting states. As a consequence, information about the states of matter of the Jovian planets and their satellites, which are natural high pressure laboratories was also provided. The work on molecular surfaces and finite two and three dimensional clusters of atoms and molecules was connected with the composition and behavior of planetary atmospheres and on the processes involved in forming surface layers, which is vital to the development of composite materials and microcircuitry.

6Predictors Of Students’ Conceptual Understanding On Finding Volume Of Solids Of Revolutions In Integral Calculus

Learning calculus concepts frustrates a lot of learners. This study assessed self-efficacy and previous mathematics performance (PMP) of Integral Calculus students and described the impact of these variables on their conceptual understanding on finding volume of solids of revolution (VSOR). This study utilized a quantitative non-experimental predictive research design for 86 students enrolled in Integral Calculus at the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines. A 6-item teacher-made open-ended test was used to quantify students’ conceptual understanding on finding VSOR. Frequency, percentage, mean and standard deviation, were used to determine students’ level of self-efficacy, previous mathematics performance, and their score in conceptual understanding test. Multiple regression analysis was used to determine if self-efficacy and previous mathematics performance are predictors of students’ conceptual understanding. Results showed that self-efficacy was a predictor of students’ conceptual understanding on finding VSOR and an important factor in the development of the profound understanding of the concepts of VSOR in Integral Calculus among students. Hence, it is recommended that calculus teachers should give emphasis on the development of the conceptual understanding moving away from teaching anchored merely on procedures. Moreover, calculus teachers need to explore on strategies that can effectively enhance students’ self-efficacy which is instrumental for students’ profound conceptual understanding of calculus concepts. Future research may be conducted in the face to face classes to establish generalizability of the results obtained because this study was conducted during the pandemic where the mode of instruction was online.
