This study is part of the preparatory work needed for establishing a foundational comprehension of specific aspects related to the research goal, which is to investigate the multidimensional interplay of individual factors and context in shaping trust towards Artificial Intelligence Expert Systems. This study is primarily a validation study in a representative German sample. It aims to validate a generally satisfying description of how an AIES should be described such that people can make an informed decision on whether they would want to use that system or not. Initially, a set of descriptive elements was introduced and exploratively analyzed in a predecessor study (https://doi.org/10.17605/OSF.IO/YQZGK). The descriptive elements identified as 'most essential' components of a comprehensive yet concise description are presented herein. It further aims to replicate and confirm the factor structure of a translated propensity to trust scale by Frazier et al. 2013. This study aims to examine how personality traits, trait emotional intelligence, attachment styles, and perceived social support contribute to mental health outcomes, specifically loneliness, depression, and anxiety. Given the increasing emphasis on mental well-being, this research seeks to provide empirical evidence on the psychological mechanisms underlying these relationships. The study will recruit at least 200 adult participants fluent in English from the United States and at least 200 adult participants fluent in Chinese from China. Data will be collected through self-report surveys administered online. Participants will complete validated psychological measures assessing personality traits, emotional intelligence, attachment styles, perceived social support, loneliness, depressive symptoms, and anxiety. The primary objective is to determine whether social support mediates the relationship between attachment styles and mental health outcomes. Additionally, the study will examine whether personality traits and trait emotional intelligence predict attachment styles and perceived social support. The research follows a cross-sectional design, utilizing convenience and snowball sampling to recruit participants. Structural equation modeling (SEM) will be employed to analyze direct and indirect relationships among variables. This study has been approved by the Alliant International University Institutional Review Board and Xi’an Tus-Children’s Hospital, adhering to ethical guidelines for human subjects research. Participants will provide informed consent and be assured of confidentiality. By examining these psychological constructs, the study aims to offer insights that could inform mental health interventions and strategies to enhance social support systems, particularly for individuals vulnerable to loneliness, depression, and anxiety.

Understanding self perception of sentience in Animal, Human and Artificial Intelligence by observational studies of human attitudes and practices towards sentient beings.

The research examines the correlation between the understanding of school-based management, emotional intelligences and headmaster performance. Data was collected, using quantitative methods. The statistical analysis used was the Pearson Correlation, and multivariate regression analysis. The results of this research suggest firstly that there is significant correlation between understanding of school-based management and principals performance. Secondly, there is a significant correlation between emotional intelligences and principals performance. Thirdly, there is a significant correlation between the understanding of school-based management, emotional intelligence and principals performance.

For a system to understand natural language, it needs to be able to take natural language text and answer questions given in natural language with respect to that text; it also needs to be able to follow instructions given in natural language. To achieve this, a system must be able to process natural language and be able to capture the knowledge within that text. Thus it needs to be able to translate natural language text into a formal language. We discuss our approach to do this, where the translation is achieved by composing the meaning of words in a sentence. Our initial approach uses an inverse lambda method that we developed (and other methods) to learn meaning of words from meaning of sentences and an initial lexicon. We then present an improved method where the initial lexicon is also learned by analyzing the training sentence and meaning pairs. We evaluate our methods and compare them with other existing methods on a corpora of database querying and robot command and control.

With the containment of the Soviet threat, there has been a resurgence of ethnic consciousness and cultural values throughout the non-Western world. Given that non-Western societies comprise two-thirds of the world's population, their cultural perspectives will define conflict and instability in the Twenty-First Century. In the new world order, culture divergence promises to be the major challenge to United States intelligence. Therefore, the Intelligence Community must reassess its Cold War paradigm relative to a multi-polar world of smaller, but no less lethal threats. The effectiveness of technology based collection systems, designed for the conventional battlespace, will be challenged by adversaries from different cultures with irregular and asymmetrical views of conflict. At the same time, a more transparent cultural divide between the West and non-West will require a greater emphasis on analyzing potential adversaries' actions and intentions. Therefore, a new culturally based intelligence paradigm will be required. This paper examines the nature of this change and suggests an approach to defining a new intelligence paradigm.

A key challenge presented by the increasing volume and complexity of information collectable from battlespace situations is the development of intelligent applications able to automatically analyze the information and identify critical enemy activities in a timely manner. What makes this information fusion problem particularly difficult is the strong contextual dependency of the interpretation of complex battlespace information. This paper examines the dimensions of intelligence information, establishes a framework for exploring the effects of contextual information and provides an illustration of its use. The paper concludes with a discussion of the ramifications of context on the development of intelligent applications intended to aid in the interpretation of complex battlespace intelligence.

Knowledge is the primary enabler for the Joint Force Commander to shape the urban Battlespace and win decisively. Therefore, the Joint Force Commander will have high expectations, and rightly so, for intelligence to facilitate knowledge superiority in the dynamic and complex urban environment. Military Operations on Urban Terrain (MOUT) occur in the most difficult environment for proper Joint Intelligence Preparation of the Battlespace (JIPB). Understanding the critical role of intelligence in formulating an intelligent operational plan seems intuitive, but this desired goal is elusive if the defense intelligence community is not focused on the problem. The military intelligence community needs to be prepared for what is likely to be its greatest challenge over the next 5-15 years. To ensure a timely, accurate and relevant urban JIPB, the issues of intelligence production responsibilities, procedure development, and prioritization of intelligence support to MOUT must be addressed. Without a solid plan of action, joint intelligence organizations may struggle in their attempts to clearly portray the modern urban Battlespace to the Joint Force Commander.

Explainable artificial intelligence (XAI) uses artificial intelligence (AI) tools and techniques to build interpretability in black-box algorithms. XAI methods are classified based on their purpose (pre-model, in-model, and post-model), scope (local or global), and usability (model-agnostic and model-specific). XAI methods and techniques were summarized in this paper with real-life examples of XAI applications. Local interpretable model-agnostic explanations (LIME) and shapley additive explanations (SHAP) methods were applied to the moral dataset to compare the performance outcomes of these two methods. Through this study, it was found that XAI algorithms can be custom-built for enhanced model-specific explanations. There are several limitations to using only one method of XAI and a combination of techniques gives complete insight for all stakeholders.

This three-part report discusses the concept of intelligence and its importance for educators. Part 1 considers the basic question of what intelligence is. Part 2 discusses the implications of notions of intelligence for schooling, dealing with both the training of content knowledge and the training of intellectual skills. Each of these first two parts is divided into sections which discuss the psychometric view, the Piagetian view, the information-processing view, and comparison and evaluation of alternative approaches. We will search MEDLINE, CINAHL, and GreenFILE for studies published from January 2015 onward, including peer-reviewed articles, grey literature, and theses. Inclusion criteria focus on studies involving AI methodologies such as machine learning, deep learning, and natural language processing applied within healthcare, with explicit discussion of environmental impacts. Studies outside healthcare or those not addressing environmental outcomes will be excluded. Expected outcomes include a comprehensive overview of the types of evidence available, identification of key themes and knowledge gaps, and recommendations for future research and policy to support more sustainable AI integration in healthcare.

This report describes the operation of a computer monitor called MYCROFT, a system which can debug elementary programs for drawing pictures. The basic skills which are fundamental to debugging skill (description, plan, linearity, insertions, global knowledge, and imperative semantics) are examined. Current Army and Air Force doctrine concedes strategic surprise in the face of overhead surveillance. Has strategic surprise been eclipsed by the eye in the sky? This paper examines the nature, foundation and potential of strategic surprise. Further, it offers a military definition for the term 'surprise,' more relevant than the lexical one offered in Webster's Dictionary. Overall, there appears to be a fundamental misunderstanding of the nature of strategic surprise in AFM 1-1 and FM-100. The weight of history seems to say that strategic surprise is not only possible, it is almost inevitable. Further, complacency about our ability to deny strategic surprise to our enemies is neither warranted by historical example or current technology. Contemporary historical examples are used to evaluate current thinking on strategic surprise. Conclusions resulting from this study are threefold: (1) Strategic surprise occurs in the face of sufficient and accurate intelligence data, not in the absence of it; (2) Surprise exploits the nature of man--his personality, idiosyncrasies, peculiarities, and weaknesses; (3) Intelligence networks themselves, serve as clogged conduits through which valuable information fails to flow at inopportune times. The nature of strategic surprise argues against any technology ever overcoming the complexity and unpredictability of man himself. A new evaluation of strategic surprise should be incorporated in operations doctrine and meaningful curriculum should be formulated for use in Professional Military Education programs.
