Torud-Chah Shirine magmatic arc is located in south of Semnan. This arc is composed of Cenozoic volcanic, pyroclastic and intrusive rocks. The Kuh-Zar in manning province of Bagho is outstanding with Cu-Au mineralization. Mining is restricted to hydrothermal alteration zones in the area. Alteration zones includes propylitic, phyllic, advanced argillic and silicic. The rare association of tourmaline as veinlets and dissemination spots with turquoise is visible in phyllic and advance argillic zones. EPMA data for mineral chemistry is indicated that tourmaline is from schorlite-dravite group. It is probable that tourmaline is generated from B-bearing fluids librated from metamorphic rocks in expense of muscovite in leached alteration zones. Petrographical and geochemical studies indicated that, leaching of hydrothermal fluids and influx of B from metamorphic rocks, have been formed tourmaline in the expense of muscovite in the groundmass. Turquoise is formed in relation to oxidation reactions of Cu-bearing sulphide minerals. Hydrolysis of alumino-silicates is taken place in acid environment and finally in corporation with P from leached fluids, formation of turquoise is occurred in expense of Al-rich mineral phases (alunite). So the overprinting of two distinct alterations including early tourmalinization and late turquoise formation is occurred.

In order to meet the requirements of a program for measuring blast pressures of large caliber bombs at the Aberdeen Proving Ground a piezoelectric tourmaline crystal blast gage has been developed and methods of producing it in large quantities have been worked out. Successive calibrations taken on individual gages show a standard deviation from the mean rarely exceeding 1%; and an output that shows no significant departure from linearity in the pressure range from three to sixteen pounds per square inch. Details of construction and calibration are given.

Tourmaline gages have been used for some time to record and study underwater shock phenomena from explosions. Tourmaline is unique in that its piezoelectric constants are the same polarity. It does not require constraint in one dimension and thus, a diaphragm, as do many other types of transducers. Tourmaline gages are constructed by the Naval Surface Weapons Center from discs 1/8 inch to 2 inches in diameter, sandwiched up to four layers thick. The crystals must be waterproofed and protected. Coating materials generally alter the transducer response and/or gage constant, sometimes in unpredictable ways. The response characteristics of silicone oil booted gages are compared to those predicted by mathematical derivation for a bare crystal gage. Tests and comparisons of actual gages of various size with various explosive types and charge sizes were made. The rise characteristics and accuracy of the real gages compared well with the derived predictions. Useful curves are given to predict accuracy in data measurements and to aid in the gage size selection for a given explosive charge size and range.

The Baghuo gold  mine  (Kuhzar) is located about 100 km S-SE of Damghan. The area is part of Torud- Chahshirin volcano- plutonic belt. The hosts of quartz – tourmaline veins are mainly granite, granodiorite and volcanic rocks such as andesite and dacite.  Mineralization occurs as a copper- gold bearing silica vein. Quartz, pyrite, chalcopyrite, gold, hematite, malachite, azurite, covellite and Fe- hydroxides ore are main constituents of mineralized veins. Gold grains with <50  µm  in diameter commonly occurr within quartz grains. Based on petrography studies, six types of fluid inclusions in quartz were distinguished: (1) monophase liquid inclusions; (2) monophase vapor inclusions (3) two- phase inclusions of liquid-rich; (4) two- phase inclusions of vapor-rich; (5) three- phase halite-bearing inclusions; (6) poly-phase inclusions. Fluid inclusion studies show homogenization temperatures ranging from 250 to 400 °C with salinities from 4 to 30 wt% equivalent NaCl. Data shows that the evolution of mineralizing fluid occurred at a depth of more than 600 m below the surface and pressure about 100 bar.  Evidences suggest that Baghu area mineralization may have occurred at the epithermal condition related to a porphyry system.

The Muteh-Golpayegan metamorphic complex consist of different metamorphic rocks including pelitic, semi-pelitic, carbonate, quartz-feldspathic and basic metamorphosed rocks. The metapelitic rocks include chlorite schist, biotite schist, garnet schist, staurolite schist, kyanite schist, sillimanite schist and andalusite schist. The semi-pelitic rocks contain higher amounts of quartz and lower amounts of mica. Apart from the main minerals in the rocks, which are quartz, muscovite, biotite, chlorite, garnet, staurolite, sillimanite, kyanite and andalusite, some samples contain considerable amounts of tourmaline as minor mineral. Tourmaline was studied in one pelitic sample and one semi-pelitic sample with high quartz content.  Tourmaline in both lithologies contain high amounts of Na+K relative to Ca in the X crystallographical site, indicating alkaline tourmalines for the studied samples. Low Ca contents points to low uvite content or limited Ca(Fe,Mg)(Na,Al)-1 substitution. The Al content is higher than 6 atoms per formula unit (6.519-6.968), making them Al-bearing tourmalines. Tourmaline in the pelitic samples is schorl, with igneous origin from detrital tourmalines in granitoids, while tourmaline in semi-pelitic sample is dravite with metamorphic origin, more likely formed during regional metamorphism in the Golpayegan area.
