Not too much knitting progress this week. I spent a good majority of the week spinning, and I have both a knitted finished object as well as a finished spinning project. I share information basic information about two new games I am playing along with a tip on Don't Starve. I also talk briefly about the new Craftsy app for the iPhone. I only show progress on one other finished object, not because that is the only one I worked on, but because there wasn't significant progress made on any other WIP. There is also a winner for the current Bar Maids coupon code. Enjoy!

The purpose of this study is to analyze the effects of the Aggressor F-16 transition on Aggressor air-to-air training provided to United States Air Forces Europe (USAFE) aircrews. I will begin with a look at the historical development of the Aggressor program in general. Next, I will examine 527th Aggressor Squadron and its' unique aspects which change, to one degree or another, with the F-16 transition. Then I will examine the Aggressor F-16 program and compare the same program aspects with those discussed in the F-5 section. This section will focus on what is happening during the transition, and what is projected for future Aggressor operations with the F-16. The comparison of F-5 and F-16 programs will examine the effects of the transition on Aggressor air-to-air training in USAFE. The last section will provide some proposed changes to F-16 program elements in order to improve Aggressor air-to-air training for USAFE pilots. The purpose of this paper is to examine the US security strategy in Northeast Asia in the post-Korean Armistice period. Although the United States has maintained a steadfast alliance with the Republic of Korea since the signing of the Korean Armistice Agreement in 1953, the decision by the United States to actively engage North Korea in direct dialogue has created the potential for increasing divergence of interest within the alliance. The United States is concerned with the nuclear proliferation issue while the Republic of Korea is concerned with being recognized as a principal party to any peace settlement. The American military's interest in maintaining the Armistice and the evolution of the Korean peace process constrain the policy options for US involvement. Despite several initiatives, there remain fundamental differences between North and South Korea that prevent an effective peace regime on the peninsula. What role should the US play in the peace process? What are the US security interests in Northeast Asia that need to be maintained in a post-Armistice period? How does US involvement in implementing the Agreed Framework with North Korea and the Four Party Peace Talks impact the viability of the U.S.-ROK security alliance? The paper will attempt to develop a strategy for ensuring American interests are maintained through the transition to peace and recommend ways to enhance the role of the security alliance in the context of preserving American regional interests in the post-Armistice era.

Despite dramatic changes in the Northeast Asian security environment, America's regional grand strategy has continued to be guided by inertia. This thesis contends that a multipolar, balance of power system is emerging in Northeast Asia, and that the appropriate U.S. response is to adopt a grand strategy of selective engagement. The first half of this thesis focuses on U.S. security interests, the Northeast Asian threat environment, and the shortcomings of post-Cold War U.S. policies. The second half describes the diplomatic, military and economic attributes of a selective engagement grand strategy. Recognizing that the age of geopolitics has not yet ended in Northeast Asia, U.S. diplomacy would endeavor to maintain equilibrium and prevent the rise of a regional hegemony by casting the United States in the role of balancer, grand facilitator, and honest broker. Militarily, a selective engagement approach would capitalize on the strengths of a maritime grand strategy to provide more flexibility at a lower cost. Finally, a grand strategy of selective engagement would acknowledge the centrality of economics to national security by linking economic policies directly to political and military strategy. (RWJ)

Background The day was April 19, 1990. The setting was Room SD-106 in the Dirksen Senate Office Building, the huge hearing room of the Senate Armed Services Committee. Senators Nunn, Levin, Dixon, Wirth, Shelby, Warner, Thurmond, McCain and Gorton were all present to receive testimony and a report from Under Secretary of Defense for Policy, Mr. Paul Wolfowitz, on the future of the U.S. military presence in Asia. The report presented by Mr. Wolfowitz, entitled A Strategic Framework For the Asian Pacific Rim: Looking Toward the 21st Century, was vintage National War College core curriculum material. The report surveyed the historical strategic environment, analyzed the U.S. regional role and objectives, and offered a strategy for managing U.S. military resources in Asia in the 1990s and beyond. Despite revolutionary changes in both the global and regional security environment, Mr. Wolfowitz and his DOD associates proposed no fundamental changes in U.S. military strategy in Asia. The longstanding military strategy that incorporates forward-deployed forces and bilateral security arrangements will remain the two pillars of America's security strategy for Asia. This steady as she goes approach, to quote Capt. Marry Afford, translates into a substantially unchanged U.S. security strategy for Asia. During the past five years there has been new research into the teaching of history to children. Many educators are advocating once again the teaching of history through concepts. This elementary school unit uses the concept approach to teaching history. The lesson examines the concept of war and wars' impact on the lives of a variety of people. The lesson's approach contrasts with and provides a balance to the fears and triumphs of leaders of nations who seek to preserve or extend their own economic and political power. The lesson provides identification with the impact of war rather than an attempt to create a set of heroes. It identifies eight knowledge objectives (such as defining war, explaining war's destruction, and making conclusions about the impact of war), four skills objectives, (including gathering and analyzing data), and four attitudinal objectives. A list of materials needed for the unit and trade books to be read is given. The lesson then presents a day-by-day description of classroom procedures and activities. The United States - Japan Security relationship continues to exist in its present form because both sides have become used to it, and are wary to let it die in the face of future uncertainties. Without a threat of the proportions the Soviet Union once posed, Japanese and American officials are unable to find a solid strategic foundation upon which to justify the current level of military integration. Yet, the \"Japan - United States Joint Delcaration on Security\" made by President Clinton and Prime Minister Hashimoto in April 1996 talks about reaffirming and deepening these ties based on the need to maintain regional stability. At the same time neither side is willing to outline what changes in the current security environment are required to obviate the need for such a relationship. The problems with deepening the level of security cooperation between the United States and Japan are manifest. Even when a clear, common threat served as the basis for their coordinated efforts during the Cold War, the Japanese did not view their security relationship with the United States as a full fledged alliance. During that period, Japanese policy makers were careful to avoid any increased military commitment, or foreign policy alignment with the United States that was not absolutely essential to the maintenance of the relationship. Now, both coutries require more flexibility in dealing with other Asian countries than their current bilateral relationship allows. In a multipolar world, both Japan and the United States must individually decide how to defend their interests as they are challenged. This thesis examines both the origins and current status of the United States - Japan security relationship. It also appraises the relationships and conflicts of interests that both nations have with other powers in the Asian arena. The ultimate purpose of this thesis is to provide some insight into the making of the current and future policies of both Japan and the United States.
