Geographical thinking focuses on the extrinsic meanings of work in English, the meanings extracted from that work, intended or not, through mediating institutional forces, relationships, and modes of spatial organization. It considers how the effects of the work of English educators are mediated by the contiguity of their courses with other courses and programs, by the proximity of their departments with other academic disciplines, professional schools, and employers, by the multiplicity of environments through which these educators and their students circulate. It addresses questions such as how do the distributive functions of English interact with its ideological functions, and how awareness of different spaces affects events in "the classroom," which has long been the self evident spatial figure for curriculum and pedagogy. A key task English educators face is to displace both disciplinary and administrative discourses by transposing them into the realm of geography and politics. To think geographically is to consider not only how institutions construct ideologies that subjects may "internalize" or resist, but also how the regulatory norms of institutions "materialize" subjects in space, sometimes without even having first to be interiorized in people's consciousness. Professional discourse often does not address the issue of space directly enough, either in its physical, social, or discursive aspects. Another area that a geographical perspective marks out for inquiry concerns how different forms of visibility shape subjectivity. Classroom discourse is often charged with meanings that derive from where the classroom is situated in institutional geographies, and who the enunciating subjects are in those geographies than in what it ostensibly says. The year 2025 is not far away. However, the coming years will doubtless surprise us since geostrategic or technological developments are so unpredictable. The air and space environment will certainly feature major breakthroughs that we must be ready to face. This article does not claim to treat this topic comprehensively; rather, it suggests a few principles that one can apply to support a view of the stakes for tomorrow s airpower. Preparing for the future is difficult. One must select the time frame in order to build an innovative but realistic and reachable vision. Economist Peter Drucker used to argue that the essence of planning is to make present decisions with knowledge of their futurity. Indeed, the years between now and 2025 have already been defined by a program of orders and deliveries that scales the format of military forces until 2020, within a given financial framework influenced by military forces. Consequently, any modification remains subject to the law of interconnectedness, whereby a new program must replace another one, or several, in order to avoid budgetary problems. Because such planning freezes capabilities until 2020, it takes on a budgetary character and limits strategic thinking to the time frame in question. Consequently, if we wish to go outside this framework, we must look beyond. The 2025 time frame is significant because it gives strategic thinking a renewed scope, keeping in mind the objective of shedding light on the future so we can better assess today s decisions.

This talk will provide the immediate drivers for broad introduction of COTS into NASA missions and the supporting new options for parts assurance that are being introduced into NASA policy, which build on the results of the NASA Engineering and Safety Center (NESC) COTS Phase 2 study. It will also provide a new approach at electronics development that will be necessary to align the agency with the current reality in manufacturing, technology, budgetary, and time limitations. It will also provide some of the highlights and drivers for the use of COTS and brief recommendations for how to successfully select and use COTS parts.

According to the paper, their approach seeks to foster an environment of greater respect for children's authority as creators of knowledge. It is stated that this is done by emphasizing three major dimensions of teaching for critical and creative thinking: children's moral and human rights to explore and express ideas and beliefs, and adults' obligation to fulfill these rights; creation of an intellectual and emotional space for children's questions and contributions in the classroom; and the need for teachers to become highly skilled in listening to and observing children's dialogue, and in asking questions that enable children to build on each other's ideas. The paper begins with an explanation of why good literature can be so effective in creating space for open-ended inquiry. It then explores aspects of the pedagogy of classroom dialogue. Finally, it offers some sources of evidence about the gains that children make in their learning when this way of working is sustained and developed responsively. The current study was conducted to see the effectiveness of using social media to enhance students' critical thinking skills. To fulfill the purpose of the study, a 14-week experimental study was performed with two groups of students. Both groups were introduced to how to respond to questions based on Revised Bloom's Taxonomy. During the period of doing the activity, students in the experimental group had to post answers in Facebook and got feedback from peers and teacher as mutual learning while those in the control group wrote their replies in papers and submitted them to the teacher in class. The research instruments used in this study included pre- and post-tests and a questionnaire. The data were analyzed by using dependent t-tests, independent t-tests, means, and standard deviations. After the experiment there was a difference in the mean scores of critical thinking ability between the two groups at the significance level of 0.05. The data obtained from the questionnaire manifested students' positive attitudes towards English instruction delivered through questioning technique and postings in Facebook.

In the summer of 1995 the Air Force chief of staff tasked Air University to conduct a year-long study Air Force 2025 to generate ideas and concepts on the capabilities the United States will require to possess the dominant air and space forces in the future, detail.....new or high-leverage concepts for employing air and space power detail....the technologies required to enable the capabilities envisioned. To support this goal an operational analysis was conducted to identify high-value system concepts and their enabling technologies in a way that was objective, traceable, and robust. This analysis determined which of the Air Force 2025 system concepts showed the greatest potential for enhancing future air and space capabilities and which of their embedded technologies have the highest leverage in making the high-value system concepts a reality. A model, Foundations 2025 which reflected the overall values held by the Air Force 2025 participants was developed to quantify and compare different system concepts' contributions to future air and space capabilities. Foundations 2025 is distinguished by the large number of system concepts that can be analyzed, the 30-year focus into the future, and the fact it was developed through a bottoms-up approach. Foundations 2025 offers a potential new framework for future air and space doctrine and can be easily modified (broken into three separate models: awareness, reach, and power) by Air Force major commands for use in their mission area analysis process. Thus, the model presented is an aid to current and future senior decision makers concerned with the employment of air and space power. The Air Force 2025 study produced a number of excellent system concepts for employing air and space power in the future. Abstract : To create artificial intelligence, it is necessary to identify the properties of natural and develop a way to model it. There are many definitions of artificial intelligence in the literature, but there is no exact definition of this science yet. Differ-ent authors model natural intelligence differently. For example, artificial intelligence is defined as the ability of a digital computer to respond to information coming to its input devices, almost as a certain person reacts in the same infor-mation environment. This approach is based on the principle of self-organization of the model and is called heuristic. Human intelligence is also seen as an intuitive system. The creative process is accompanied by various manifestations of emotions, and decision-making in natural in-telligence is carried out in conditions of uncertainty of various kinds. Studies show that in the problems of this class it is related to: 1) incomplete input and current information; 2) with fuzzy input information; 3) with vaguely developed rules for processing and evaluating information. Significant combinatorial spaces, in particular significant information spaces, were used to model the dynamics of human thinking. The latter has a combinatorial nature and exists in two states: tranquility (convolute) and dynamics (deployed), which deployed from convolute. Collapsed is given by an information sign that contains the properties of the expanded space. Information is primarily related to the functioning of the human brain and is in the subconscious or consciousness in the form of images, fragments of speech and so on. The transfer of information (thoughts) is car-ried out with the help of deployed information space through the speech space, through gestures, movements, through writing, graphics. Depending on the type of uncertainty, the classification of natural intelligence is given. We believe that the con-cept of intelligence is associated with such operations as information processing and evaluation. Based on this, human intelligence is conditionally divided into three levels: 1) a person follows the rules, which are clearly formulated and described without analysis of their accuracy (learning rules); 2) the individual analyzes information for accuracy and develops its own rules of conduct under different conditions (rules of self-study); 3) the ability for independent of exist-ing rules of analysis, processing and evaluation of information for accuracy (rules of intuition). Partial realization of artificial intelligence is carried out through the use of self-tuning algorithms and modeling of self-organization processes in nature.

The challenge of extending students' skills in spatial thinking to astronomical scales was the central focus of our K-8 curriculum development. When the project's lead teacher requested a curriculum that cumulatively built on each prior year's learning in a spiral fashion, I knew exactly what the school was asking for. Second and third graders began by noticing the cyclical patters that the sun, moon, and stars make in the sky. Fourth graders explored the phases of the moon by taking turns modeling and sketching them in their classroom and then comparing them to the real sky. Sixth !graders used real telescopes to observe a moving model of our solar system and walked a scale model of the planets' orbits. The curriculum is designed to expand students' capacity to visualize space in a hierarchical fashion that asks them to imagine themselves from a broader number of spatial perspectives through hands-on activities. The "situational awareness" Peter's story describes is a hallmark of high-performance engineering and innovation. Keeping in mind the potential outcomes of multiple paths of pursuit from multiple perspectives while keeping track of their relative merits and performance requirements is a demanding spatial task. What made it possible for Peter to transform the failure of his first glove into triumph was the mental space in which that failure provided exactly the information needed for a new breakthrough. In at least two cases, Peter could immediately "see" the full implications of what his hands were telling him. He tells the story of how putting his hands in a Phase VI astronaut glove instantly transformed his understanding of the glove challenge. Six months into his development, the failure of circumferentially wrapped cords to produce a sufficiently flexible glove again forced him to abandon his assumptions. His situational awareness was so clear and compelling it became a gut-level response. Peter's finely developed spatial skills enabled him to almost instinctively focus his full energy on a carefully constructed set of experiments. The finger's ability to sense pressure, force, and work gave him the immediate feedback required to solve this one central problem. Once properly understood, his failure quickly led to the magical "Aha!" moment of discovery; the rest is history. Just as children need opportunities to develop hands-on understanding, engineers need to explore new possibilities through incremental hands-on failure. High-performance innovation is all about learning to make maximum use of thinking spatially to direct this process. Peter Homer's glove also reminds us that efficient engineering decisions need to be made as close to the hardware as possible. Whether we're doing hands-on education or hands-on engineering, it is when we trust in our ability to "feel our way" through failure that we reach our highest potential.

In May 2019, the British Columbia Teachers' Federation (BCTF) hosted a one-day seminar entitled "Questioning the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Education 2030 Program." The seminar provided a space to critically explore the Education 2030 program and the general approach to global standards through international tests. Seminar participants then attended the "OECD Education 2030 9th Informal Working Group meeting and B.C. Education Conference," hosted by the BC Ministry of Education in Vancouver. This publication is a collection of reflections on these two events by teachers, union leaders and academics. Taken together, the papers disrupt efforts to position BC as an exemplar of the type of reform promoted by the OECD. Through presentations and discussions focused on the OECD program, and looking specifically at the BC curriculum, participants questioned efforts to position BC as an exemplar of the type of reform promoted by the OECD. By thinking across these spaces, the papers work to question a "global" agenda and ask about the effects of a policy logic whereby the "local" has no choice but to adapt or be left behind in the global race towards well-being. How can the narrative being told about "who" students and teachers are, "what" they need to know, and how teaching and learning happen be disrupted? How can the assumptions behind this narrative be challenged? How can local knowledges and processes be mobilized and supported? How can solidarity be built amongst teachers nationally and internationally to speak back to emerging spaces of global governance?

Ramona, a novel written by Helen Hunt Jackson (1884), is the story of a part-Scottish and part-Native American orphan girl growing up and getting married in Southern California, suffering racial discrimination and hardship. Originally serialized in the Christian Union on a weekly basis, the novel became immensely popular. Overall, it has had more than 300 printings, been made into four film versions, and has been performed as an outdoor play annually since 1923. The impact the novel had on the culture and image of Southern California was enormous. Its romanticization of Mexican colonial life gave the region a unique cultural identity and its publication coincided with the arrival of railroad lines to the region, bringing in countless tourists who wanted to see the locations in the novel. Volume One of the New and Complete Newgate Calendar, covering the years 1700 through 1723, relates stories of British trials, the persons accused and the crimes committed. It is primarily based upon contemporary newspaper and pamphlet accounts of these trials. Ramona is the ward of Señora Gonzaga Moreno, who despises the girl for her race but honors the dying wish of the Señora's sister, Ramona's foster-mother, to raise her as her own. Señora Moreno embodies the aloof arrogance of Spanish nobility, hating both the Americans who dispute her claim to her vast rancho, and the Indians, whom she places in the same social class with slaves. Booker T. Washington was one of the first nationally recognized African American leaders after the Civil War. He was born to a slave woman in Virginia, who then took him as a young boy to West Virginia after the emancipation. Booker became a leader in education heading the Tuskegee Institute for more than 30 years and working with other universities. He advocated a moderate approach to elevating the African Americans through education and business, but worked behind the scenes to change discriminatory laws and practices, and became an adviser to the White House.
