3The Heisenberg Algebra As Near Horizon Symmetry Of The Black Flower Solutions Of Chern-Simons-like Theories Of Gravity

By

In this paper we study the near horizon symmetry algebra of the non-extremal black hole solutions of the Chern-Simons-like theories of gravity, which are stationary but are not necessarily spherically symmetric. We define the extended off-shell ADT current which is an extension of the generalized ADT current. We use the extended off-shell ADT current to define quasi-local conserved charges such that they are conserved for Killing vectors and asymptotically Killing vectors which depend on dynamical fields of the considered theory. We apply this formalism to the Generalized Minimal Massive Gravity( GMMG) and obtain conserved charges of a spacetime which describes near horizon geometry of non-extremal black holes. Eventually, we find the algebra of conserved charges in Fourier modes. It is interesting that, similar to the Einstein gravity in the presence of negative cosmological constant, for the GMMG model also we obtain the Heisenberg algebra as the near horizon symmetry algebra of the black flower solutions. Also the vacuum state and all descendants of the vacuum have the same energy. Thus these zero energy excitations on the horizon appear as soft hairs on the black hole.

5Pure Gauge Configurations And Solutions To Fermionic Superstring Field Theories Equations Of Motion

By

Recent results on solutions to the equation of motion of the cubic fermionic string field theory and an equivalence of non-polynomial and cubic string field theories are discussed. To have a possibility to deal with both GSO(+) and GSO(-) sectors in the uniform way a matrix formulation for the NS fermionic SFT is used. In constructions of analytical solutions to open string field theories truncated pure gauge configurations parameterized by wedge states play an essential role. The matrix form of this parametrization for the NS fermionic SFT is presented. Using the cubic open superstring field theory as an example we demonstrate explicitly that for the large parameter of the perturbation expansion these truncated pure gauge configurations give divergent contributions to the equation of motion on the subspace of the wedge states. The perturbation expansion is cured by adding extra terms that are nothing but the terms necessary for the equation of motion contracted with the solution itself to be satisfied.

6Existence Of Solutions For Hamiltonian Field Theories By The Hamilton-Jacobi Technique

By

The paper is devoted to prove the existence of a local solution of the Hamilton-Jacobi equation in field theory, whence the general solution of the field equations can be obtained. The solution is adapted to the choice of the submanifold where the initial data of the field equations are assigned. Finally, a technique to obtain the general solution of the field equations, starting from the given initial manifold, is deduced.

7Cosmological Solutions Of Time Varying Speed Of Light Theories

By

We consider scalar-tensor theory for describing varying speed of light in a spatially flat FRW space-time. We find some exact solutions in the metric and Palatini formalisms. Also we examine the dynamics of this theory by dynamical system method assuming a $\Lambda$CDM background and we find some exact solutions by considering the character of critical points of the theory in both formalisms. We show that for any attractor the form of non-minimal coupling coefficient is quadratic in terms of the scalar field $\Psi$. Also we show that only attractors of the de Sitter era satisfy the horizon criteria.

8Clebsch Variational Principles In Field Theories And Singular Solutions Of Covariant EPDiff Equations

By

This paper introduces and studies a field theoretic analogue of the Clebsch variational principle of classical mechanics. This principle yields an alternative derivation of the covariant Euler-Poincar\'e equations that naturally includes covariant Clebsch variables via multisymplectic momentum maps. In the case of diffeomorphism groups, this approach gives a new interpretation of recently derived singular peakon solutions of Diff(R)-strand equations, and allows for the construction of singular solutions (such as filaments or sheets) for a more general class of equations, called covariant EPDiff equations. The relation between the covariant Clebsch principle and other variational principles arising in mechanics and field theories, such as Hamilton-Pontryagin principles, is explained through the introduction of a class of covariant Pontryagin variational principles in field theories.

9Limiting Solutions Of Sequences Of Globally Regular And Black Hole Solutions In SU(N)-EYMD Theories

By

Static spherically symmetric solutions in SU(N)-EYM and EYMD theories are classified by the node numbers of their non-trivial gauge field functions. With increasing node numbers, the solutions form sequences, tending to limiting solutions. The limiting solutions are based on subalgebras of $su(N)$, consisting of a neutral non-abelian part and a charged abelian part, belonging to the Cartan subalgebra

10Generation Of Electro And Magneto Static Solutions Of The Scalar-Tensor Theories Of Gravity

By

The field equations of the scalar-tensor theories of gravitation are presented in different representations, related to each other by conformal transformations of the metric. One of the representations resembles the Jordan-Brans-Dicke theory, and is the starting point for the generation of exact electrostatic and magnetostatic exterior solutions. The corresponding solutions for each specific theory can be obtained by transforming back to the original canonical representation, and the conversions are given for the theories of Jordan-Brans-Dicke, Barker, Schwinger, and conformally invariant coupling. The electrostatic solutions represent the exterior metrics and fields of configurations where the gravitational and electric equipotential surfaces have the same symmetry. A particular family of electrostatic solutions is developed, which includes as special case the spherically symmetric solutions of the scalar-tensor theories. As expected, they reduce to the well-known Reissner-Nordstr\"{o}m metric when the scalar field is set equal to a constant. The analysis of the Jordan-Brans-Dicke metric yields an upper bound for the mass-radius ratio of static stars, for a class of interior structures.

11Cosmological Solutions Of Higher-Curvature String Effective Theories With Dilatons

By

We study the effect of higher-curvature terms in the string low-energy effective actions on the cosmological solutions of the theory, up to corrections quartic in the curvatures, for the bosonic and heterotic strings as well as the type II superstring. We find that cosmological solutions exist for all string types but they always disappear when the dilaton field is included, a conclusion that can be avoided if string-loop effects are taken into account.

12Solutions Of Four-Dimensional Field Theories Via M Theory

By

N=2 supersymmetric gauge theories in four dimensions are studied by formulating them as the quantum field theories derived from configurations of fourbranes, fivebranes, and sixbranes in Type IIA superstrings, and then reinterpreting those configurations in M theory. This approach leads to explicit solutions for the Coulomb branch of a large family of four-dimensional N=2 field theories with zero or negative beta function.

15Spherically Symmetric Solutions To Fourth-Order Theories Of Gravity

By

Gravitational theories generated from Lagrangians of the form f(R) are considered. The spherically symmetric solutions to these equations are discussed, paying particular attention to features that differ from the standard Schwarzschild solution. The asymptotic form of solutions is described, as is the lack of validity of Birkhoff's theorem. Exact solutions are presented which illustrate these points and their stability and geodesics are investigated.

16Operator Solutions Of Two-dimensional Chiral Gauge Theories

By

The exact operator solutions of two-dimensional anomaly-free chiral abelian gauge theories are obtained. We show that anomaly-cancellation conditions arise as consistency requirements of these solutions. For a certain class of flavour symmetries, fermion condensates are constructed. These are shown to violate the fermion-number conservation rule. The models are extended to include massive fermions. We propose a bosonised lagrangian for the massive theory and verify that it complies with the Gupta-Bleuler condition.

17G+++ Invariant Formulation Of Gravity And M-Theories: Exact Intersecting Brane Solutions

By

The set of exact solutions of the non-linear realisations of the G+++ Kac-Moody algebras is further analysed. Intersection rules for extremal branes translate into orthogonality conditions on the positive real roots characterising each brane. It is proven that all the intersecting extremal brane solutions of the maximally oxidised theories have their algebraic counterparts as exact solutions in the G+++ invariant theories. The proof is extended to include the intersecting extremal brane solutions of the exotic phases of the maximally oxidised theories.

18Mapping Between Generalized Nonlinear Schroedinger Equations And Neutral Scalar Field Theories And New Solutions Of The Cubic-Quintic NLS Equation

We highlight an interesting mapping between the moving breather solutions of the generalized Nonlinear Schrodinger (NLS) equations and the static solutions of neutral scalar field theories. Using this connection, we then obtain several new moving breather solutions of the cubic-quintic NLS equation both with and without uniform phase in space. The stability of some stationary solutions is investigated numerically and the results confirmed via dynamical evolution.

20Comment On The Exterior Solutions And Their Geometry In Scalar-tensor Theories Of Gravity

By

We study series of the stationary solutions with asymptotic flatness properties in the Einstein-Maxwell-free scalar system because they are locally equivalent with the exterior solutions in some class of the scalar-tensor theories of gravity. First, we classify spherical exterior solutions into two types of the solutions, an apparently black hole type solution and an apparently worm hole type solution. The solutions contain three parameters, and we clarify their physical significance. Second, we reduce the field equations for the axisymmetric exterior solutions. We find that the reduced equations are partially the same as the Ernst equations. As simple examples, we derive new series of the static, axisymmetric exterior solutions, which correspond to Voorhees's solutions. We then show a non-trivial relation between the spherical exterior solutions and our new solutions. Finally, since null geodesics have conformally invariant properties, we study the local geometry of the exterior solutions by using the optical scalar equations and find some anomalous behaviors of the null geodesics.

21General Static Spherical Solutions Of D-dimensional Charged Dilaton Gravity Theories

By

We get the general static, spherically symmetric solutions of the d-dimensional Einstein-Maxwell-Dilaton theories by dimensionally reducing them to a class of 2-dimensional dilaton gravity theories. By studying the symmetries of the actions for the static equations of motion, we find field redefinitions that nearly reduce these theories to the d-dimensional Einstein-Maxwell-Scalar theories, and therefore enable us to get the exact solutions. We do not make any assumption about the asymptotic space-time structure. As a result, our 4-dimensional solutions contain the asymptotically flat Garfinkle-Horowitz-Strominger (GHS) solutions and the non-asymptotically flat Chan-Horne-Mann (CHM) solutions. Besides, we find some new solutions with a finite range of allowed radius of the transversal sphere. These results generalize to an arbitrary space-time dimension d (d>3).

22BPS Solutions Of Noncommutative Gauge Theories In Four And Eight Dimensions

We study the 1/4 BPS equations in the eight dimensional noncommutative Yang-Mills theory found by Bak, Lee and Park. We explicitly construct some solutions of the 1/4 BPS equations using the noncommutative version of the ADHM-like construction in eight dimensions. From the calculation of topological charges, we show that our solutions can be interpreted as the bound states of the $D0$-$D4$-$D8$ with a $B$-field. We also discuss the structure of the moduli space of the 1/4 BPS solutions and determine the metric of the moduli space of the U(2) one-instanton in four and eight dimensions.

23Exact Solutions Of N-level Systems And Gauge Theories

By

We find a relationship between unitary transformations of the dynamics of quantum systems with time-dependent Hamiltonians and gauge theories. In particular, we show that the nonrelativistic dynamics of spin-$\frac12$ particles in a magnetic field $B^i (t)$ can be formulated in a natural way as an SU(2) gauge theory, with the magnetic field $B^i(t)$ playing the role of the gauge potential A^i. The present approach can also be applied to systems of n levels with time-dependent potentials, U(n) being the gauge group. This geometric interpretation provides a powerful method to find exact solutions of the Schr\"odinger equation. The root of the present approach rests in the Hermiticity property of the Hamiltonian operators involved. In addition, the relationship with true gauge symmetries of n-level quantum systems is discussed.

24On The All Order Solutions Of Seiberg-Witten Map For Noncommutative Gauge Theories

By

We review the recursive solutions of the Seiberg--Witten map to all orders in $\theta$ for gauge, matter and ghost fields. We also present the general structure of the homogeneous solutions of the defining equations. Moreover, we show that the contribution of the first order homogeneous solution to the second order can be written recursively similar to inhomogeneous solutions.

25Converting Classical Theories To Quantum Theories By Solutions Of The Hamilton-Jacobi Equation

By

By employing special solutions of the Hamilton-Jacobi equation and tools from lattice theories, we suggest an approach to convert classical theories to quantum theories for mechanics and field theories. Some nontrivial results are obtained for a gauge field and a fermion field. For a topologically massive gauge theory, we can obtain a first order Lagrangian with mass term. For the fermion field, in order to make our approach feasible, we supplement the conventional Lagrangian with a surface term. This surface term can also produce the massive term for the fermion.

27Construction Of Nonsingular Cosmological Solutions In String Theories

By

We study nonsingular cosmological scenarios in a general $D$-dimensional string effective action of the dilaton-modulus-axion system in the presence of the matter source. In the standard dilatonic Brans-Dicke parameter ($\omega=-1$) with radiation, we analytically obtain singularity-free bouncing solutions where the universe starts out in a state with a finite curvature and evolves toward the weakly coupled regime. We apply this analytic method to the string-gas cosmology including the massive state in addition to the leading massless state (radiation), with and without the axion. We numerically find bouncing solutions which asymptotically approach an almost radiation-dominant universe with a decreasing curvature irrespective of the presence of the axion, implying that inclusion of the matter source is crucial for the existence of such solutions for $\omega=-1$. In the theories with $\omega \ne -1$, it is possible to obtain complete regular bouncing solutions with a finite dilaton and curvature in both past and future asymptotics for the general dimension, $D$. We also discuss the case where dilatonic higher-order corrections are involved to the tree-level effective action and demonstrate that the presence of axion/modulus fields and the matter source does not significantly affect the dynamics of the dilaton-driven inflation and the subsequent graceful exit.

28Remarks On The Solutions Of The Maxwell- Chern-Simons Theories

By

The large distance behavior of the Maxwell- Chern-Simons (MCS) equations is analyzed, and it is found that the pure Chern-Simons limit, (when the Maxwell term is dropped from the equations), does not describe the large distance limit of the MCS model. This necessitates the solution of the original problem. The MCS gauge theory coupled to a nonrelativistic matter field, (governed by the gauged non-linear Schr\"odinger equation), is studied. It turns out, that there are no regular self-dual solutions as in the pure Chern-Simons case, but the model admits interesting, though singular self-dual solutions. The properties of these solutions, and their large distance limits are analyzed.

29On Analytical Solutions Of F(R) Modified Gravity Theories In FLRW Cosmologies

By

A novel analytical method for f(R) modified theories without matter in Friedmann-Lemaitre-Robertson-Walker spacetimes is introduced. The equation of motion for the scale factor in terms of cosmic time is reduced to the equation for the evolution of the Ricci scalar R with the Hubble parameter H. The solution of equation of motion for actions of the form of power law in Ricci scalar R, is presented with a detailed elaboration of the action quadratic in R. The reverse use of the introduced method is exemplified in finding functional forms f(R) which lead to specified scale factor functions. The analytical solutions are corroborated by numerical calculations with excellent agreement. Possible further applications to the phases of inflationary expansion and late-time acceleration as well as f(R) theories with radiation are outlined.

We find nonperturbative solutions of a nonlocal scalar field equation, with cubic or exponential potential on a cosmological background. The former case corresponds to the lowest level effective tachyon action of cubic string field theory. While the well known Minkowski solution is wildly oscillating, due to Hubble friction its cosmological counterpart describes smooth rolling towards the local minimum of the potential.

32Black Hole Solutions Of Modified Gravity Theories

By

The main interest of the work exposed in this thesis is to explore hairy black holes in a more general framework than General Relativity by taking into account the presence of a cosmological constant, of higher dimensions, of exotic matter fields or of higher curvature terms. These extensions to General Relativity can be derived in the context of String Theory. It is also by studying natural extensions to General Relativity that we can more deeply understand the theory of Einstein. Firstly, we will display the theory of General Relativity with its building blocks in particular and we will give the mathematical tools that we need afterwards. Then, a first extension will be detailed with the introduction of higher dimensions and p-form fields which constitute the natural generalization of the electromagnetic interaction. We will build in this framework new static black hole solutions where p-form fields allow to shape the geometry of the horizon. Secondly, we will present the general extension of Einstein theory in any dimension which produces second order field equations: Lovelock theory. We will determine in this context a large class of solutions in dimension 6 for which the theory is reduced to Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet theory with the presence of p-form fields. Thirdly, we will study a generalization of General Relativity in dimension 4 whose modification is induced by a conformally coupled scalar field. We will namely exhibit a new black hole solution with a flat horizon in the presence of axionic fields. To conclude this thesis, thermodynamical aspects of these gravitational theories will be studied. In this way, we will be able to determine the mass and the charges of these new solutions and we will examine phase transition phenomena in the presence of a conformally scalar field.

37New Exact Solutions Of Bianchi I, Bianchi III And Kantowski-Sachs Spacetimes In Scalar-coupled Gravity Theories Via Noether Gauge Symmetries

By

The Noether symmetry approach is useful tool to restrict the arbitrariness in a gravity theory when the equations of motion are underdetermined due to the high number of functions to be determined in the ansatz. We consider two scalar-coupled theories of gravity, one motivated by induced gravity, the other more standard; in Bianchi I, Bianchi III and Kantowski-Sachs cosmological models. For these models, we present a full set of Noether gauge symmetries, which are more general than those obtained by the strict Noether symmetry approach in our recent work. Some exact solutions are derived using the first integrals corresponding to the obtained Noether gauge symmetries.

38Classical Solutions Of SU(2) And SU(3) Pure Yang-Mills Theories And Heavy Quark Spectrum

By

In this paper we compute classical Minkowsky spacetime solutions of pure SU(2) and SU(3) gauge theories, in Landau gauge. The solutions are regular everywhere except at the origin and/or infinity, are characterized by a four momentum $k$ such that $k^2 = 0$ and resemble QED configurations. The classical solutions suggest a particle-independent description of hadrons, similarly to the Atomic and Nuclear energy levels, which is able to reproduce the heavy quarkonium spectrum with a precision below 10%. Typical errors in the theoretical mass prediction relative to the measured mass being of the order of 2-4%.

39Unified Description Of Cosmological And Static Solutions In Affine Generalized Theories Of Gravity: Vecton - Scalaron Duality And Its Applications

By

We briefly describe the simplest class of affine theories of gravity in multidimensional space-times with symmetric connections and their reductions to two-dimensional dilaton - vecton gravity field theories (DVG). The distinctive feature of these theories is the presence of an absolutely neutral massive (or tachyonic) vector field (vecton) with essentially nonlinear coupling to the dilaton gravity (DG). We show that in DVG the vecton field can be consistently replaced by an effectively massive scalar field (scalaron) with an unusual coupling to dilaton gravity. With this vecton - scalaron duality, one can use methods and results of the standard DG coupled to usual scalars (DGS) in more complex dilaton - scalaron gravity theories (DSG) equivalent to DVG. We present the DVG models derived by reductions of multidimensional affine theories and obtain one-dimensional dynamical systems simultaneously describing cosmological and static states in any gauge. Our approach is fully applicable to studying static and cosmological solutions in multidimensional theories as well as in general one-dimensional DGS models. We focus on global properties of the models, look for integrals and analyze the structure of the solution spaces. In integrable cases, it can be usefully visualized by drawing a `topological portrait' resembling phase portraits of dynamical systems and simply exposing global properties of static and cosmological solutions, including horizons, singularities, etc. For analytic approximations we also propose an integral equation well suited for iterations.

40Spherically Symmetric Solutions Of Modified Field Equations In F(R) Theories Of Gravity

By

Spherically symmetric static empty space solutions are studied in f(R) theories of gravity. We reduce the set of modified Einstein's equations to a single equation and show how one can construct exact solutions in different f(R) models. In particular, we show that for a large class models, including e.g. the f(R)=R-\mu^4/R model, the Schwarzschild-de Sitter metric is an exact solution of the field equations. The significance of these solutions is discussed in light of solar system constraints on $f(R)$ theories of gravity.

41Pure Gauge Configurations And Tachyon Solutions To String Field Theories Equations Of Motion

By

In constructions of analytical solutions to open string field theories pure gauge configurations parameterized by wedge states play an essential role. These pure gauge configurations are constructed as perturbation expansions and to guaranty that these configurations are asymptotical solutions to equations of motions one needs to study convergence of the perturbation expansions. We demonstrate that for the large parameter of the perturbation expansion these pure gauge truncated configurations give divergent contributions to the equation of motion on the subspace of the wedge states. We perform this demonstration numerically for the pure gauge configurations related to tachyon solutions for the bosonic and the NS fermionic SFT. By the numerical calculations we also show that the perturbation expansions are cured by adding extra terms. These terms are nothing but the terms necessary to make valued the Sen conjectures.

43The Full Integration Of Black Hole Solutions To Symmetric Supergravity Theories

By

We prove that all stationary and spherical symmetric black hole solutions to theories with symmetric target spaces are integrable and we provide an explicit integration method. This exact integration is based on the description of black hole solutions as geodesic curves on the moduli space of the theory when reduced over the time-like direction. These geodesic equations of motion can be rewritten as a specific Lax pair equation for which mathematicians have provided the integration algorithms when the initial conditions are described by a diagonalizable Lax matrix. On the other hand, solutions described by nilpotent Lax matrices, which originate from extremal regular (small) D = 4 black holes can be obtained as suitable limits of solutions obtained in the diagonalizable case, as we show on the generating geodesic (i.e. most general geodesic modulo global symmetries of the D = 3 model) corresponding to regular (and small) D = 4 black holes. As a byproduct of our analysis we give the explicit form of the Wick rotation connecting the orbits of BPS and non-BPS solutions in maximally supersymmetric supergravity and its STU truncation.

44Classical Solutions Of Higher-Derivative Theories

By

We present exact classical solutions of the higher-derivative theory that describes the dynamics of the position modulus of a probe brane within a five-dimensional bulk. The solutions can be interpreted as static or time-dependent throats connecting two parallel branes. In the nonrelativistic limit the brane action is reduced to that of the Galileon theory. We derive exact solutions for the Galileon, which reproduce correctly the shape of the throats at large distances, but fail to do so for their central part. We also determine the parameter range for which the Vainshtein mechanism is reproduced within the brane theory.

This configuration is compactified to four dimensions on a torus, and by employing toric geometry, we compute the type IIB mirrors of the Calabi-Yaus of the type IIA string theory. We identify the Seiberg-Witten curves describing the gauge theories as ALE spaces fibered over a $P^1$ base.

46Constraints And Analytical Solutions Of $f(R)$ Theories Of Gravity Using Noether Symmetries

By

We perform a detailed study of the modified gravity $f(R)$ models in the light of the basic geometrical symmetries, namely Lie and Noether point symmetries, which serve to illustrate the phenomenological viability of the modified gravity paradigm as a serious alternative to the traditional scalar field approaches. In particular, we utilize a model-independent selection rule based on first integrals, due to Noether symmetries of the equations of motion, in order to identify the viability of $f(R)$ models in the context of flat FLRW cosmologies. The Lie/Noether point symmetries are computed for six modified gravity models that include also a cold dark matter component. As it is expected, we confirm that all the proposed modified gravity models admit the trivial first integral namely energy conservation. We find that only the $f(R)=(R^{b}-2\Lambda)^{c}$ model, which generalizes the concordance $\Lambda$ cosmology, accommodates extra Lie/Noether point symmetries. For this $f(R)$ model the existence of non-trivial Noether (first) integrals can be used to determine the integrability of the model. Indeed within this context we solve the problem analytically and thus we provide for the first time the evolution of the main cosmological functions such as the scale factor of the universe and the Hubble expansion rate.

47New Features Of Extended Wormhole Solutions In The Scalar Field Gravity Theories

By

The present paper reports interesting new features that wormhole solutions in the scalar field gravity theory have. To demonstrate these, we obtain, by using a slightly modified form of the Matos-Nunez algorithm, an extended class of asymptotically flat wormhole solutions belonging to Einstein minimally coupled scalar field theory. Generally, solutions in these theories do not represent traversable wormholes due to the occurrence of curvature singularities. However, the Ellis I solution of the Einstein minimally coupled theory, when Wick rotated, yields Ellis class III solution, the latter representing a singularity-free traversable wormhole. We see that Ellis I and III are not essentially independent solutions. The Wick rotated seed solutions, extended by the algorithm, contain two new parameters a and \delta;. The effect of the parameter a on the geodesic motion of test particles reveals some remarkable features. By arguing for Sagnac effect in the extended Wick rotated solution, we find that the parameter a can indeed be interpreted as a rotation parameter of the wormhole. The analyses reported here have wider applicability in that they can very well be adopted in other theories, including in the string theory.

48AdS-plane Wave And Pp-wave Solutions Of Generic Gravity Theories

By

We construct the AdS-plane wave solutions of generic gravity theory built on the arbitrary powers of the Riemann tensor and its derivatives in analogy with the pp-wave solutions. In constructing the wave solutions of the generic theory, we show that the most general two tensor built from the Riemann tensor and its derivatives can be written in terms of the traceless-Ricci tensor. Quadratic gravity theory plays a major role; therefore, we revisit the wave solutions in this theory. As examples to our general formalism, we work out the six-dimensional conformal gravity and its nonconformal deformation as well as the tricritical gravity, the Lanczos-Lovelock theory, and string-generated cubic curvature theory.

49Solutions Of Multigravity Theories And Discretized Brane Worlds

By

We determine solutions to 5D Einstein gravity with a discrete fifth dimension. The properties of the solutions depend on the discretization scheme we use and some of them have no continuum counterpart. In particular, we find that the neglect of the lapse field (along the discretized direction) gives rise to Randall-Sundrum type metric with a negative tension brane. However, no brane source is required. We show that this result is robust under changes in the discretization scheme. The inclusion of the lapse field gives rise to solutions whose continuum limit is gauge fixed by the discretization scheme. We find however one particular scheme which leads to an undetermined lapse reflecting the reparametrization invariance of the continuum theory. We also find other solutions, with no continuum counterpart with changes in the metric signature or avoidance of singularity. We show that the models allow a continuous mass spectrum for the gravitons with an effective 4D interaction at small scales. We also discuss some cosmological solutions.

50Black Hole Solutions Of Kaluza-Klein Supergravity Theories And String Theory

By

We find U(1)_{E} \times U(1)_{M} non-extremal black hole solutions of 6-dimensional Kaluza-Klein supergravity theories. Extremal solutions were found by Cveti\v{c} and Youm\cite{C-Y}. Multi black hole solutions are also presented. After electro-magnetic duality transformation is performed, these multi black hole solutions are mapped into the the exact solutions found by Horowitz and Tseytlin\cite{H-T} in 5-dimensional string theory compactified into 4-dimensions. The massless fields of this theory can be embedded into the heterotic string theory compactified on a 6-torus. Rotating black hole solutions can be read off those of the heterotic string theory found by Sen\cite{Sen3}.
