1CIA Reading Room Cia-rdp90-00552r000403680010-1: EDWIN WILSON AND THE PLOT TO KILL LETELIER
By CIA Reading Room
Sanitized Copy Approved for Release 2010/07/22 : CIA-RDP90-005 Ed-win Wilson And the Plot To Kill Letelier On the morning of Sept. 21, 1976, ex-CIA agent Edwin Wilson had breakfast at Washington's Mayflow- er Hotel with an associate and body- guard who went by the alias of Peter Wagner. Wilson had just returned from Geneva, where he had met with three Cuban CIA agents and, the federal government later charged, 'had attempted to arrange the assas- sination of a Libyan dissident. He said nothing of this to Wagner. But Wilson did ask his associate what he'd be doing that day and where he'd be. Wagner replied, according to a se- cret House Intelligence Committee transcript, that he-would be check- ing with two private investigators who were on a divorce case stakeout in northwest, Washington. Wilson then leaned forward, Wagner said, ''and advised me ....why didn't I stay out of that area ::...and stay in the offices the rest of the day." But Wagner :ignored the advice and drove to the area to give instruc- tions to his agents. By the time he returned to Wilson's office, -the radio waves were crackling with the news THE WASHINGTON POST 21 December 1982 that a bomb had exploded in a car at Sheridan Circle-just two blocks from where Wagner's agents were stationed. Killed were Chilean exile leader Orlando Letelier and an American co-worker. According to the transcripts, ob- tained by my associate Dale Van Atta, Wagner later joined Wilson and several other people for drinks at a local club. The occasion quickly assumed the atmosphere of a victory party. Wilson, Wagner said, "was pleased that things turned out the way they did. It was obvious to ev- erybody at the office. That is when I really became a little leery of Ed." Wagner also recalled that he had heard Letelier's name mentioned many times around Wilson's office. Wagner's testimony before the in- telligence committee again raises an intriguing question that has hung over the Letelier murder for years: laid Edwin Wilson, who recently was .convicted of ' illegally supplying weapons to agents of Libyan dictator lNluammar Qaddafi, know in advance of the plot to kill Letelier? In March 1977, I reported that . anti-Castro `Cubans -were linked to the Letelier murder. A month later, :Bob Woodward of The Washington Post reported a link between Wilson and the assassination. Federal inves- tigators first denied the allegation, but then decided to question Wilson because of his close ties to Cuban ex- patriates, with whom he had worked as a CIA official. - The stories that Woodward and wrote angered Wilson. and he or- dered Wagner to check out my of- fice's security system.. He soon dis- covered that my system was main- tained by a company to which Wag- ner had complete access. A source who was present when Wilson and Wagner spoke about my security system described the con- versation to my associates Van Atta and Indy Badhwar. "This is perfect." Wilson exclaimed. "I want you to fig- ure out a way to compromise this system. Anything with my name on it in Anderson's office, I want de-. stroyed." As luck would have it, I switched to a different security firm about this time, and Wagner couldn't get into my office. Footnote: Through his attorney, Wilson claimed he had never heard of Letelier before his assassination. Wilson also said he had never planned to break. into my office. 4Rick Wilson - Running Against The Devil: A Plot To Save America From Trump--and Democrats From Themselves — At The Wharf
By Politics and Prose
In his follow-up to Everything Trump Touches Dies, the legendary Republican strategist and ad-maker draws on his thirty years as a political insider to tell Democrats what they must do—and how they should do it—to win the White House in 2020. Starting with the warning that the left must "put electoral realities ahead of progressive fantasies” and run a campaign that makes the election a referendum on Trump rather than a debate over policy issues, Wilson unleashes his signature mix of strategic advice and satirical asides for a scathing assessment of both Trump’s administration and the Democrats’ mistakes of 2016.

1Comic English Grammar
By Percival Leigh
This is a basic grammar, treating of the parts of speech, syntax, versification, pronunciation and punctuation.

The listener is warned that there is quite a dated feel about this little grammar as the author, in keeping with the times (1840), is a frightful snob about social classes, scathing about 'vulgar speech' and also sometimes quite rude about American turns of phrase. The author is not remotely as comical as he thinks he is, but it has its moments. (Summary by Ruth Golding)
