Personal Touch was officially formed in 2016. The idea to create an old school-style R&B group as well as record their own CD developed a couple of years earlier while Rex, James and Kevin were members of the Massachusetts-based Jus Us Band. During their 12+ years with Jus Us Band, they opened for Howard Hewitt, Harold Melvin's Blue Notes, The Manhattan's and other legendary groups. They were also the sole entertainers at the annual Basketball Hall Of Fame Enshrinement Ceremony for nearly 10 years. These seasoned performers also closed out the Saturday festivities at the Greater Hartford Festival of Jazz for more than 8 years. As Personal Touch, they have completed their premier CD entitled 'Better With Time'. The recording has a combination of cover songs with the Personal Touch flair, along with a spectacular original titled 'Take Me Back'. Personal Touch has also contributed background vocals to the recordings of two artists; the incomparable Kenny Hamber and French recording artist 'Lou'. Lastly, they have signed with Michael Yorkell and Hipshot Management and have been touring nationwide. Abstract OBJECTIVE: To promote foot screening of inpatients with diabetes, we simplified sensory testing to lightly touching the tips of the first, third, and fifth toes (the Ipswich Touch Test [IpTT]). RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS: Respective performances of the IpTT and 10-g monofilament (MF) were compared with a vibration perception threshold of ≥25 V indicating at-risk feet in 265 individuals. The IpTT and MF were also directly compared. RESULTS: With ≥2 of 6 insensate areas signifying at-risk feet, sensitivities and specificities, respectively, were IpTT (77 and 90%), MF (81 and 91%); positive predictive values were IpTT (89%), MF (91%); and negative predictive values were IpTT (77%), MF (81%). Directly compared, agreement between the IpTT and MF was almost perfect (κ = 0.88, P < 0.0001). Interrater agreement for the IpTT was substantial (κ = 0.68). CONCLUSIONS: The IpTT performs well against a recognized standard for ulcer prediction. Simple to teach, reliable, without expense, and always at hand, it should encourage uptake of screening and detection of high-risk inpatients requiring foot protection.

Abstract In the self-touch illusion (STI), some can feel that both hands are touching each other even when they are separated actually. This is achieved by giving synchronized touches to both hands. Because the STI involves both hands (an administrating hand and a receptive hand) of a single person, two types of proprioceptive drifts (PDs) simultaneously occur in such a way that both hands are attracted to each other. It is known that the PD distance is generally larger for the administrating hand than for the receptive hand when the two hands are uncrossed. However, it remains unclear why such an asymmetrical relationship is observed universally. In this study, we conducted two types of experiment to induce the STI. The first experiment involved four conditions combining a factor of “whether the hands are uncrossed or crossed” and a factor of “whether the administrating hand is resting or active on the surface,” with the receptive (left) hand located at the body's midline. The result demonstrated that crossing hands and resting on surface (ROS) induced the STI. Specifically, crossing hands enhanced the amount of PD distance by more than two or three times. Moreover, it is interesting that strong PD with dominance of the receptive hand, which did not appear in the uncrossed condition, was observed frequently. The second experiment collected seven “illusion-sensitive” participants from the first experiment, all of whom had a strong tendency to feel the self-touch, and examined the effect of the location of the body midline on the PD when hands are crossed with the administrating hand ROS. The result demonstrated that the dominant hand on the PD completely differed among participants, but was relatively stable over the midline position and time in the same person. We also found that a small number of participants exhibited quite a different pattern of the PD in the identical posture. On the basis of the results, we analyze in detail how the dominant hand on the PD is determined in the STI.
