Previous research has demonstrated that jurors’ perceptions of eyewitness and defendant credibility are often influenced by case-irrelevant factors such as race and age (Rogers & Davies, 2007; Pozzulo et al., 2010). Individuals of almost any age are eligible to testify as an eyewitness in trials, therefore, eyewitness age is relevant in juror decision-making. Overall, adult eyewitnesses are perceived with more integrity than child eyewitnesses in non-sexual assault cases (Bruer & Pozzulo, 2014; Sheahan et al., 2021). Regarding race, negative stereotypes surrounding Indigenous populations concerning criminality are prevalent within the Canadian criminal justice system, as can be seen with an overrepresentation of Indigenous offender populations (Cunneen, 2006). Systemic racism, racial biases, and adverse stereotypes have demonstrated impacts on mock-jurors’ perceptions of Indigenous defendants and eyewitnesses (Ewanation & Maeder, 2018). Although research has delineated how age and race impact juror decision-making in recent years (Pica et al., 2017; Maeder & Yamamoto, 2018), a gap exists in the literature for understanding how jurors perceive Indigenous eyewitnesses and defendants and whether these perceptions are influenced by eyewitness age. Specially, the current study aims to understand how eyewitness age and race will interact with defendant race to influence jurors’ perceptions of believability, credibility, and verdict decisions.

Wisconsin man Jacob Cayer, 30, is on trial in the June 7, 2016 murders of his ex-girlfriend Sabrina Teague, 23, and her mother Heesun “Sunny” Teague, 64. The defendant allegedly told authorities he got into a fight with his father, went to his ex’s home, broke in, and attacked Heesun Teague in the bathroom, according to WBAY. He ambushed Sabrina Teague and her boyfriend Joel Kennedy when they got to the residence, authorities said. Kennedy was stabbed, but survived, hit the defendant in the head with a shovel, then called 911, authorities said. The Teagues died from fatal stab wounds, however. Sabrina’s sister Sarama Teague remembered the women as “more than the ex-girlfriend and the mother.” She told The Green Bay Press Gazette, “They were fully complex human beings, beautiful people, and I just want people to know that, and that I loved them.” Their mother Sunny was a character, who arrived in the United States from SOuth Korea in 1983, was proud of her barbecue chicken, had a quirky way of posing for pictures, and enjoyed telling the girls gossip about her Post Office coworkers, Sarama said. Heesun Teague had recently retired from USPS at the time of the murders. Sabrina was going to start school at Northeast Wisconsin Technical College to become a social worker, her sister said. She dreamed of starting a half-way house. “One of her dreams was opening a halfway house for troubled teens that didn’t have supportive homes,” Sarama said. “She believed nobody should ever suffer alone, and she was there for everybody.” Cayer has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity or mental defect. It wasn’t necessarily the first choice of defense. In March, Brown County Judge Tammy Jo Hock denied a defense motions’ request to allow them to provide alternate suspects. They wanted to argue at trial that two other men kidnapped Cayer and framed him for the murders, according to WLUK. In the this version of events, the alleged motive was that these killers feared what Cayer might tell cops about other crimes. Hock said this motion lacked logic, and pointed out one of the alternate suspects were in jail at the time of the Teague murders. Records viewed by Law&Crime show Cayer’s defense recently issued another motion to admit evidence of third-party guilt. Once again, this was before Hock. The defendant’s mental state was certainly a recurring element in the pre-trial hearings. The trial was delayed six times as the judge occasionally considered him incompetent to face the allegations against him. Dr. Christina Engen of the Wisconsin Forensic Unit had testified that she did not think Cayer understood the gravity of this case. The defendant thought he was going to be found innocent, and was “gleeful” when talking about the case, she said according to WBAY. Jesus Promised You Would Stand In The Storm by Carter Conlon

Western scholars like Marijn Van Putten and Hythem Sidky try their damnedest to support the Standard Islamic Narrative concerning the creation of the earliest Qur’anic manuscripts, possibly because their paymasters are Muslim institutions giving out large amounts of oil money with vested interest in preserving the 'Standard Islamic Narrative' at any cost. As a result, the scholars are forced to mimic the story of how the Qur’an was compiled in 652 AD, taken from Al Bukhari’s 870 AD Hadith (Sahih Al Bukhari, volume 6 hadith numbers 509-510), written almost 240 years after the fact; so hundreds of years too late and hundreds of miles too far north, and with absolutely no historical support. This creates numerous problems for the modern Western scholars who are indebted to Muslim institutions for their financial bursaries. According to Al Bukhari’s 'Standard Narrative' account, in 652 AD Udaifa, a friend of Uthman, the Caliph in Medina at that time, goes with a contingent of men north to fight the Azerbaijanis and is joined by Muslims from Iraq and Syria. After the battle these Muslims retire to a local mosque to pray, where Udaifa hears the Qur’an being recited differently from what he memorized, and he begins a fight with the other northern Muslims. Deeply disturbed by what he heard, he immediately goes back south to Uthman in Medina and demands that he command Zaid ibn Thabi (Muhammad’s secretary, who was responsible for writing the original Qur’an under Abu Bakr 20 years earlier) to rewrite the Qur’an a second time, but this time in the local 'Quraishi Dialect'; which he does, and gives the finished copy to Uthman. Uthman then has every other Qur'an which disagrees with this finalized, and thus "original text" be burned. Note, Muslims today say that he only burned dialectical differences, which are nothing more than differences in pronunciation. The problem with that excuse is that in order to have dialectical differences in a written Arabic text, you need dots and vowels, which didn't exist that early, and were only invented in the 8th and 9th centuries, so this could not be the reason these earliest written Qur'ans disagreed. They indeed must have had consonantal differences, all of which would have changed the meaning for each verse substantially. No wonder Uthman had to destroy those which disagreed. To make sure there would be no more different Qur'ans, Uthman then had a copy of Zaid ibn Thabit's final recension sent to 5 cities (Mecca, Medina, Basra, Kufa and Damascus) to be the standard for all subsequent Qur'ans. Unfortunately, it didn't work, as within a few years a Qur'an written by Ubay ibn Ka'ab (a companion of the prophet) appeared in Damascus with 116 Surahs (today's Qur'an only has 114 Surahs). Another Qur'an written by Ibn Masu'd (another of Muhammad's companions) appeared in Kufa/Baghdad, which had only 110 Surahs, and a third yet different Qur'an written by Ibn Musa appeared in Basra. So, by the end of the 7th century there were at least 4 different Qur'ans in existence in 5 different cities. Note, we don't have any of these variant Qur'ans in our possession today in order to see just how different they were. In fact, we don't even have the original text written by Zaid ibn Thabit in existence today either. Rather clumsy of the Muslims to have conveniently lost all 5 of the original Qur'ans as well as the 3 other variant Qur'ans, don't you think? Even more troubling, Dr Arthur Jeffery in the 1930s, by perusing the 9th and 10th century Islamic Traditions concerning these variant Qur'ans, was able to find 15,000 differences which the compilers had described in their writings. So much for early standardization! This makes Van Puten and Sidky's job even more precarious, as they can only referance a possible proto-Qur'an (or as they call it an "archetype"), but cannot produce any manuscript to support their claims, since there simply is not any original 7th century Qur'an for us to look at. Unlike our Biblical manuscripts of the new Testament, where we can point to the Sinaiticus and the Vaticanus Codexes (dated to the 4th century) as well as the Alexandrinus (dated to the 5th century), all 200-300 years before the Qur'an was supposedly written, Muslims cannot even find ONE manuscript of their original Qur'an from the 7th century, a mere 1400 years ago. The story of a New Hampshire man on trial for allegedly murdering his wife is the story of a disintegrating marriage and a gambling addiction. Jurors will decide if William Argie, 49, killed Maureen Argie, 41, at their home in the town of Londonderry on April 4, 2019. The New Hampshire Department of Justice has said that he either strangled her, smothered her, or both. Money and hate mark the alleged motive. Defendant Argie, who had a son and daughter with Maureen, was the only beneficiary of a $400,000 life insurance policy on her, prosecutors said in a Derry News report. He faced increasing debts, which he could not pay after after losing his job as a physician’s assistant and being unable to maintain consistent work, prosecutors said. On top of that, he was a gambling addict, and the family was unable to intervene a year before the murder, authorities said. This marriage was going to end, one way or another. Maureen Argie intended to live with her children after an “imminent divorce,” prosecutors said. She expressed concern to her father on April 1, 2019, however, saying she worried that William Argie was monitoring her phone, authorities said. Two days before that, she went out of her way to call police to make sure the emergency line was working “in case something happens,” and to “protect herself.” She worried about things with her husband being “tense,” authorities said. Her fears were well-founded, if we go by the prosecution’s account. William Argie allegedly offered some of the life insurance money to a friend of his in exchange for helping kill Maureen. He allegedly said he hated his wife. When that friend said no, Argie then asked for him to help find a hitman, authorities said. The friend allegedly did not take this request seriously because William Argie was badly intoxicated, according to the defense’s description of this claim, according to court documents obtained by The New Hampshire Union Leader. The husband ultimately carried out the murder himself, tried to die by suicide, drove to Connecticut, threw away his cellphone, and then gambled at a casino, according to the state’s proposed evidence. Defense lawyer Purvin Dunn argued that the post-murder suicide attempt and gambling were irrelevant to the murder charges. “Gambling addiction is a behavioral or mental health disorder recognized by the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Health Disorders,” she reportedly wrote. “Like a substance use addiction, persons addicted to gambling may engage in gambling as a reaction to trauma. As the summer days wind down, LibriVox volunteers bring you 11 different recordings of <em>A Summer’s Afternoon</em> by Benjamin King. This was the weekly poetry project for the week of July 29th, 2007.

Stanton H. King was from Barbados and followed his brothers to sea at the age of twelve in 1880. He spent only twelve years at sea for reasons given in this book. Thereafter, he became associated with the Sailors' Haven, Boston, Massachusetts and became its director. He was also a renowned Chantie singer and, in 1918, King's Book Of Chanties was published. King views the sailing life from "before the mast", that is, through the eyes of the common sailor. (Summary by Peter Kelleher)

3Daughter of the Sioux

Charles King was a United States soldier and a distinguished writer. He was the son of Civil War general Rufus King and great grandson of Rufus King, one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence. He graduated from West point in 1866 and served in the Army during the Indian Wars under George Crook. He was wounded in the arm forcing his retirement from the regular army. During this time he became acquainted with Buffalo Bill Cody. King would later write scripts for several of Cody's silent films.<br/><br/> King's writings, relating to American Indians, cover a complex range of opinion within his novels. His sympathy for their cause of defending their homelands, and being forced to adopt a new lifestyle, did not stop him from graphically portraying them as savage and barbaric peoples. However, King also used his writings to harshly criticize U.S. government policies that resulted in Indian treaties not being honored and that permitted rampant corruption among government-appointed reservation agents. As a lieutenant in the 5th Cavalry, King was a participant on the American western frontier, who personally fought in battles with Southwestern and Plains Indians and observed government policies first hand. Charles King is credited today with helping to establish the "Western novel" as a romantic and dramatic genre of American literature, based upon a sturdy foundation of historical realism. This is a volume of Benjamin King's collected verse, published shortly after his sudden death in 1894. The American humorist was very famous during his lifetime, and is still widely referenced and quoted until today. This volume was published in Chicago after his death, reportedly outselling any other volume of poetry in Michigan for 25 years after being published. At the opening of this story Diane Eveleth returns from a party in Paris to her mother-in-law, who tells her that her husband George Eveleth has been killed in a duel, fought with the Marquis de Bienville. Diane secretly transfers her remaining patrimony to her mother-in-law and the two women sail for New York, where the elder woman has relatives.<BR><BR>Here Diane is offered the situation of chaperone for the daughter Dorothea of Derek Pruyn, a widower whom she has met before. Eventually, Pruyn makes her an offer of marriage. She withholds her answer until his return from a voyage to South America, when she is prepared to accept him, but on his home-coming she finds his attitude towards her completely changed. Pruyn has encountered de Bienville on his voyage and has heard from him that Diane was unfaithful to her husband.<BR><BR>The book concentrates on how the relationships between the various protagonists develop.
