_Echoes of strategies throughout the eons challenge you to epic duels._ A two-player race strategy game played at least since five thousand years ago. The first boards were discovered at the Royal Cemetery of Ur in 1922 (this is where the game got its name from) and the rules were deciphered several decades later from Babylonian clay tablets. The board pattern design closely follows the specimen pictured here: [British Museum Royal Game of Ur - Royal Game of Ur - Wikipedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Royal_Game_of_Ur#/media/File:British_Museum_Royal_Game_of_Ur.jpg) and is optimized for a 0.45 mm perimeter width. A modular board design helps with capturing the fine details of original design, as larger individual tiles can be separately printed even on smaller beds; additionally, the tiles can be easily stored. **Game Rules** Each player takes a set of seven pieces. Every piece must enter and exit from the board at specified locations. The first player to move all their pieces off the board wins. At each turn a player rolls a set of four tetrahedral dice to determine the number of squares a piece can move. Each die has two marked sides*, corresponding to 1, and two unmarked sides, corresponding to 0, so each roll yields a number between zero and 4. When a player rolls the dice, they have the following options, of which they must choose only one: introduce a new piece on the board, move a piece already on the board along its path, or move a piece off the board. Note that a piece can exit the board only if the player rolls the exact number that would bring it off the board (number of remaining squares + 1). If no move can be made, the player loses their turn. Every square can only be occupied by a single piece. A player cannot place multiple pieces on the same square. However, a player can move their piece to a square occupied by an opponent’s piece: in that case, the opponent’s piece is ‘captured’, i.e. it is removed from the board and must start anew. Rosette squares (the flower shape) are special: when a player moves a piece to this type of square, they get an extra turn. Moreover, pieces on rosettes are safe from capture; an enemy piece cannot move to an already occupied rosette. There are two possible game paths, and which one is used must be agreed upon before the game begins. This is thought to be one of the oldest board games known to man. The royal game of Ur pits 2 players against each other in a race to score 7 points. The game seems initially to be a game of chance but quickly evolves into a tactful battle of the minds. This print comes split in 2 as to fit onto most printers but can be scaled down if need be. Designed to be cut on one 1/4 in sheet and one 1/8 in for the back. The pieces fit on the inside of the board. The door for it should fit snug and there are tabs to help open it. I've added magnets to mine to hold it together better. Have fun playing! I cut this at the Chattanooga Public Library.

The Royal Game Of Ur is one of the oldest games to be discovered. Predated only by the Egyptian game of Senet, the board found in 1920 is estimated to be about 5000 years old. Ever since I found out about the existence of the game (3 days ago), I wanted to play it but unfortunately I couldn't find any vendor who sells it so I decided to make my own. !Beware that I haven't yet printed it since I just finished designing it! *UPDATE* -I have added a new version of the board with smaller depth for the impressions (1mm) this should drastically cut the printing time while still giving you a nice piece overall. -Tried printing the impressions and my Anet A8 managed to print them well at 0.2mm resolution. -I have also made another version with a small drawer inside of it which will fit the dice and the pawns. Print this version with light supports and then take them out at the end. This version has not yet been tested by me You will need to print 4 tetrahedron dice (I recommend 100% infill for good balance) and mark two vertices on each of the four tetrahedral so when you trow the 4 dice, you will get a number from 0 to 4. You will also need to print several pawns and preferably paint half of them black or print them in black filament. But you don't have to limit yourself to just black and white, any other color combinations can work just as good. Print the two board parts then fit them together. Depending on your printer, the fit will be good or bad; if the fit is too lose, put some glue in, if it's to tight, sand it down a bit. This year's christmas present for my brother. Thought I'd share it with you. How to play: https://youtu.be/WZskjLq040I The case measures roughly 220x100mm (without the hinges). When printed with layerheight 0.2mm you can start switching the filament close to the top of the bottom PartB always after 2 layers to achieve the coloration. I used wood, white, black, blue, red, wood (in that order). To achieve the color switching on the tokens you can also start at layerheight 0.2mm with one color for the first 2 layers, then switch to another for two layers and back until you reach the top, another switch back to the second color for two layers and then a last switch back to the first color for the last two layers. The hinges can be attached with 2 x M3x5mm socket Cap Screws and M3 nuts (i recommend additional glue), and need 6 x M3x40mm socket Cap Screws for the latch mechanism and to connect the two case halfes.

I added a divider in the drawer to keep the different color pawns separate as well as to provide support for the game board during play. I also added scoring trays to keep your pawns in once you got them to the end.

I wanted a solution for a single head printer, and one that was tri colored, one per player, and neutral. I also made new player pieces, new easy grip dice, cut the board it half, slimmed it down, and put it all in a box. The print was with wood filled PLA, specifically MG, but I've used others as well. When I print the boards, I manually stretch its thickness, usually to 2 or 3 mm, and the dice I shrink uniformly, to 18mm tall. Everything else I print unmodified. After printing everything gets sanded with 200 grit, and cleaned with acetone. Sand the sides of the key where the two boards meet, to get the desired fit, less for a tight fit, more for loose. The box I printed with internal supports for the keyway that the cover slides into. Specifically I used supports without a roof and floor, and they pulled out after the print perfectly. I used a 0.4mm nozzle, anything larger and cura wont pick up some of the detail. Color infill is sally hansen gel nail polish, I prefer to use nail polish for infills, vibrant colors, and built in brush. A surface coat of floor varnish, applied with a rag, before color will seal the upper surface and make clean up easier. No need to be neat with the color, acetone wont melt PLA and removes nail polish easily. After the color is all cleaned up, sand it again and generously coat it with more floor varnish, filling in the details. Use multiple coats with sandings in between, or one big one, I've done both and they each have their charms. The new player pieces are marked with 1 to 7 in cuneiform, the box lid with 'The Royal Game of Ur' in an Akkadian script I found online, and the box bottom with the english instructions for the game, as I am aware. Also the new dice feature easy grip contours, and 2 tips that have been slightly shrunken to account for the application of color. Everything should be sanded with 220, and again, varnished with many coats, or on big dip. That being said, the dice are best done with many coats, and rotating it between to even it out in 3 dimensions.
