1The Presence Of Eosinophil Leucocytes In Cervicovaginal Smears With Actinomyces-like Organisms: Light Microscopic Examination.

This article is from Journal of Cytology / Indian Academy of Cytologists , volume 29 . Abstract Background:: Actinomyces species are part of mucosal surfaces of oral cavity, gastrointestinal and genital tracts. When these mucosal surfaces disrupt, Actinomyces become pathogen and cause infection. Eosinophil leucocytes participate in host defense against helminthic infestation and they generally play a role in asthma and allergy. However, the role of eosinophil leucocytes in host defense against bacteria is conflicting. Aim:: To determine whether there is a relationship between Actinomyces-like organisms (ALOs) and eosinophil leucocytes at light microscopic level. Materials and Methods:: Cervicovaginal samples obtained from 200 patients were examined by both Pap smear microscopy and anaerobic culturing. Since the results obtained by these methods were not concordant for diagnosis of genital Actinomyces, 6 of 200 patients (3%) diagnosed with ALOs by Pap smear microscopy became the study group. Patients without any infectious agents (n=134) were the control group. Statistical analyses were conducted with χ2 test using SPSS program. Results:: The study and control groups were compared statistically in view of the presence of eosinophil leucocytes and it was found that there was a significant correlation between the presence of ALOs and eosinophil leucocytes (P

2Light-Cone Expansion Of The Dirac Sea In The Presence Of Chiral And Scalar Potentials

We study the Dirac sea in the presence of external chiral and scalar/pseudoscalar potentials. In preparation, a method is developed for calculating the advanced and retarded Green's functions in an expansion around the light cone. For this, we first expand all Feynman diagrams and then explicitly sum up the perturbation series. The light-cone expansion expresses the Green's functions as an infinite sum of line integrals over the external potential and its partial derivatives. The Dirac sea is decomposed into a causal and a non-causal contribution. The causal contribution has a light-cone expansion which is closely related to the light-cone expansion of the Green's functions; it describes the singular behavior of the Dirac sea in terms of nested line integrals along the light cone. The non-causal contribution, on the other hand, is, to every order in perturbation theory, a smooth function in position space.

3Discovery Potential Of T2K And NOvA In The Presence Of A Light Sterile Neutrino

We study the impact of one light sterile neutrino on the prospective data expected to come from the two presently running long-baseline experiments T2K and NOvA when they will accumulate their full planned exposure. Introducing for the first time, the bi-probability representation in the 4-flavor framework, commonly used in the 3-flavor scenario, we present a detailed discussion of the behavior of the numu to nue and numubar to nuebar transition probabilities in the 3+1 scheme. We also perform a detailed sensitivity study of these two experiments (both in the stand-alone and combined modes) to assess their discovery reach in the presence of a light sterile neutrino. For realistic benchmark values of the mass-mixing parameters (as inferred from the existing global short-baseline fits), we find that the performance of both these experiments in claiming the discovery of the CP-violation induced by the standard CP-phase delta13 equivalent to delta, and the neutrino mass hierarchy get substantially deteriorated. The exact loss of sensitivity depends on the value of the unknown CP-phase delta14. Finally, we estimate the discovery potential of total CP-violation (i.e., induced simultaneously by the two CP-phases delta13 and delta14), and the capability of the two experiments of reconstructing the true values of such CP-phases. The typical (1 sigma level) uncertainties on the reconstructed phases are approximately 40 degree for delta13 and 50 degree for delta14.

4Breakdown Of Adiabatic Transfer Of Light In Waveguides In The Presence Of Absorption

In atomic physics, adiabatic evolution is often used to achieve a robust and efficient population transfer. Many adiabatic schemes have also been implemented in optical waveguide structures. Recently there has been increasing interests in the influence of decay and absorption, and their engineering applications. Here it is shown that even a small decay can significantly influence the dynamical behaviour of a system, above and beyond a mere change of the overall norm. In particular, a small decay can lead to a breakdown of adiabatic transfer schemes, even when both the spectrum and the eigenfunctions are only sightly modified. This is demonstrated for the generalization of a STIRAP scheme that has recently been implemented in optical waveguide structures. Here the question how an additional absorption in either the initial or the target waveguide influences the transfer property of the scheme is addressed. It is found that the scheme breaks down for small values of the absorption at a relatively sharp threshold, which can be estimated by simple analytical arguments.

8High Temperature Phase Transition In The Coupled Atom-light System In The Presence Of Optical Collisions

The problem of photonic phase transition for the system of a two-level atomic ensemble interacting with a quantized single-mode electromagnetic field in the presence of optical collisions (OC) is considered. We have shown that for large and negative atom-field detuning a photonic field exhibits high temperature second order phase transition to superradiant state under thermalization condition for coupled atom-light states. Such a transition can be connected with superfluid (coherent) properties of photon-like low branch (LB) polaritons. We discuss the application of metallic cylindrical waveguide for observing predicted effects.

In this paper, we will analyze a three dimensional supersymmetric Chern-Simons theory on a manifold with a boundary. The boundary we will consider in this paper will be defined by $n\cdot x=0$, where $n$ is a light-like vector. It will be demonstrated that this boundary is preserved under the action of the $SIM(1)$ subgroup of the Lorentz group. 12Thermalization Of Coupled Atom-light States In The Presence Of Optical Collisions

The interaction of a two-level atomic ensemble with a quantized single mode electromagnetic field in the presence of optical collisions (OC) is investigated both theoretically and experimentally. The main accent is made on achieving thermal equilibrium for coupled atom-light states (in particular dressed states). We propose a model of atomic dressed state thermalization that accounts for the evolution of the pseudo-spin Bloch vector components and characterize the essential role of the spontaneous emission rate in the thermalization process. Our model shows that the time of thermalization of the coupled atom-light states strictly depends on the ratio of the detuning and the resonant Rabi frequency. The predicted time of thermalization is in the nanosecond domain and about ten times shorter than the natural lifetime at full optical power in our experiment. Experimentally we are investigating the interaction of the optical field with rubidium atoms in an ultra-high pressure buffer gas cell under the condition of large atom-field detuning comparable to the thermal energy in frequency units. In particular, an observed detuning dependence of the saturated lineshape is interpreted as evidence for thermal equilibrium of coupled atom-light states. A significant modification of sideband intensity weights is predicted and obtained in this case as well.

This article is from PLoS ONE , volume 9 . Abstract Recent progress in information and communication technologies has made it possible to measure heart rate (HR) and normalized pulse volume (NPV), which are important physiological indices, using only a smartphone. This has been achieved with reflection mode photoplethysmography (PPG), by using a smartphone’s embedded flash as a light source and the camera as a light sensor. Despite its widespread use, the method of PPG is susceptible to motion artifacts as physical displacements influence photon propagation phenomena and, thereby, the effective optical path length. Further, it is known that the wavelength of light used for PPG influences the photon penetration depth and we therefore hypothesized that influences of motion artifact could be wavelength-dependant. To test this hypothesis, we made measurements in 12 healthy volunteers of HR and NPV derived from reflection mode plethysmograms recorded simultaneously at three different spectral regions (red, green and blue) at the same physical location with a smartphone. We then assessed the accuracy of the HR and NPV measurements under the influence of motion artifacts. The analyses revealed that the accuracy of HR was acceptably high with all three wavelengths (all rs > 0.996, fixed biases: −0.12 to 0.10 beats per minute, proportional biases: r = −0.29 to 0.03), but that of NPV was the best with green light (r = 0.791, fixed biases: −0.01 arbitrary units, proportional bias: r = 0.11). Moreover, the signal-to-noise ratio obtained with green and blue light PPG was higher than that of red light PPG. These findings suggest that green is the most suitable color for measuring HR and NPV from the reflection mode photoplethysmogram under motion artifact conditions. We conclude that the use of green light PPG could be of particular benefit in ambulatory monitoring where motion artifacts are a significant issue.

We show that, on general theoretical grounds, transmission of light in graphene always presents a non-vanishing minimum value independently of any material and physical condition, the transmission coefficient being higher in the presence of a substrate, and getting increasing when QED corrections higher than alpha come into play. Explicit numerical calculations for typical cases are carried out when an external magnetic field is applied to the sample, showing that, in epitaxial graphene, a threshold effect exists leading to a non trivial minimum transmission, for a non vanishing light frequency, only for field values larger than a critical one, both in the large and in the intermediate chemical potential regime. Such a threshold effect manifests even in the maximum Faraday rotation polarization of light, which is substantially controlled by the applied magnetic field. Instead, more transmission minima in suspended graphene enters in the considered light frequency region for increasing magnetic field, displaying an effective shift of frequency bands where the sample gets more or less absorptive with a suitable tuning of the external field. Two transition regions in different magnetic field ranges are found, where the shift effect towards higher frequency values occurs both in the transmission coefficient and in the Faraday rotation angle. Potential technological application of the results presented are envisaged.

15Using Gaussian Processes To Model Light Curves In The Presence Of Flickering: The Eclipsing Cataclysmic Variable ASASSN-14ag

The majority of cataclysmic variable (CV) stars contain a stochastic noise component in their light curves, commonly referred to as flickering. This can significantly affect the morphology of CV eclipses and increases the difficulty in obtaining accurate system parameters with reliable errors through eclipse modelling. Here we introduce a new approach to eclipse modelling, which models CV flickering with the help of Gaussian processes (GPs). A parameterised eclipse model - with an additional GP component - is simultaneously fit to 8 eclipses of the dwarf nova ASASSN-14ag and system parameters determined. We obtain a mass ratio $q$ = 0.149 $\pm$ 0.016 and inclination $i$ = 83.4 $^{+0.9}_{-0.6}$ $^{\circ}$. The white dwarf and donor masses were found to be $M_{w}$ = 0.63 $\pm$ 0.04 $M_{\odot}$ and $M_{d}$ = 0.093 $^{+0.015}_{-0.012}$ $M_{\odot}$, respectively. A white dwarf temperature $T_{w}$ = 14000 $^{+2200}_{-2000}$ K and distance $d$ = 146 $^{+24}_{-20}$ pc were determined through multicolour photometry. We find GPs to be an effective way of modelling flickering in CV light curves and plan to use this new eclipse modelling approach going forward.

We present a description of the energy loss of a charged particle moving parallel to a graphene layer and graphene double layers. Specifically, we compare the stopping power of the plasma oscillations for these two configurations in the absence as well as the presence of circularly polarized light whose frequency and intensity can be varied to yield an energy gap of several hundred $\texttt{meV}$ between the valence and conduction bands. The dressed states of the Dirac electrons by the photons yield collective plasma excitations whose characteristics are qualitatively and quantitatively different from those produced by Dirac fermions in gapless graphene, due in part to the finite effective mass of the dressed electrons. For example, the range of wave numbers for undamped self-sustaining plasmons is increased as the gap is increased, thereby increasing the stopping power of graphene for some range of charged particle velocity when graphene is radiated by circularly polarized light.

Magnetization reversal by a femtosecond circularly polarized laser pulse has been recently demonstrated in rare-earth doped transition metals (RE-TM). The switching mechanism has been attributed to an inverse Faraday effect and thermal effects. Based on the parameters provided in the experimental work, we show that this claim is unlikely to give rise to femtosecond reversal. Using a hybrid itinerant-localized picture of the RE-TM system, we propose a new mechanism that requires the presence of the rare earth element to reduce the symmetry of the system as well as a strong enhancement of spin-orbit coupling between the d electrons and the f moments in the presence of the laser. Our model does not require the heating close to the Curie temperature of the sample.

In this paper, we study the effect of conversion of super-light sterile neutrino (SLSN) to electron neutrino in matter like that of the Earth. In the Sun the resonance conversion between SLSN and electron neutrino via the neutral current is suppressed due to the smallness of neutron number. On the other hand, neutron number density can play an important role in the Earth, making the scenario of SLSN quite interesting. The effect of CP-violating phases on active-SLSN oscillations is also discussed. Reactor neutrino experiments with medium or short baseline may probe the scenario of SLSN.

In this paper, we explore the 3D structure of light scattering from dark-field illuminated live 3T3 cells in the presence of 40 nm gold nanomarkers. For this purpose, we use a high resolution holographic microscope combining the off-axis heterodyne geometry and the phase-shifting acquisition of the digital holograms. A comparative study of the 3D reconstructions of the scattered fields allows us to locate the gold markers which yield, contrarily to the cell structures, well defined bright scattering patterns that are not angularly titled and clearly located along the optical axis (z). This characterization is an unambiguous signature of the presence of gold biological nanomarkers, and validates the capability of digital holographic microscopy to discriminate them from background signals in live ce

Nitroaromatic compounds (NACs) and perfluorinated compounds (PFCs) are two classes of water contaminants of DoD concern due to their risk to the environment, personnel, and mission. This study investigated the potential of an innovative technology, oxidation using titanium dioxide (TiO2) and TiO2 doped with silver (Ag-TiO2) as photocatalyst, to effectively and energy efficiently treat NAC and PFC-contaminated water. Three model contaminants, 2,4-DNT (NAC), and PFOA and PFOS (PFCs), were degraded using TiO2 and Ag-TiO2 immobilized on glass slides under sunlight and UV light in atmospheric conditions and at neutral pH. 2,4-DNT degraded 14% and 15% in the presence of Ag-TiO2 and TiO2, respectively, under sunlight after 8 hours. After 8 hours under UV light, 2,4-DNT degraded 13% and 29% in the presence of Ag-TiO2 and TiO2, respectively. Results indicate that PFOA and PFOS do not degrade under the conditions of the experiment. Further study is needed to investigate the viability of the technology to treat NAC- and PFC-contaminated water.

We investigate the issue of electromagnetic duality on the light front. We work with Zwanziger's theory of electric and magnetic sources which is appropriate for treating duality. When quantized on the light-front in the light front gauge, this theory yields two independent phase space degrees of freedom, namely the two transverse field components, the right number to describe the gauge field sector of normal light-front QED and also the appropriate commutator between them. The electromagnetic duality transformation formulated in terms of them is similar in form to the Susskind transformation proposed for the free theory, provided one identifies them as the dynamical field components of the photon on the light-front in the presence of magnetic sources. The Hamiltonian density written in terms of these components is invariant under the duality transformation.

The contribution of the cosmological constant to the deflection angle and the time delays are derived from the integration of the gravitational potential as well as from Fermat's Principle. The findings are in agreement with recent results using exact solutions to Einstein's equations and reproduce precisely the new $\Lambda$-term in the bending angle and the lens equation. The consequences on time delay expressions are explored. While it is known that $\Lambda$ contributes to the gravitational time delay, it is shown here that a new $\Lambda$-term appears in the geometrical time delay as well. Although these newly derived terms are perhaps small for current observations, they do not cancel out as previously claimed. Moreover, as shown before, at galaxy cluster scale, the $\Lambda$ contribution can be larger than the second-order term in the Einstein deflection angle for several cluster lens systems.

We revisit the possibility of generating non-zero reactor mixing angle in a scenario where there is a sterile neutrino at the eV scale apart from the usual three sub-eV scale active neutrinos. We show that the $3\times3$ active neutrino mass matrix can possess a $\mu-\tau$ symmetry and can still be consistent with non-zero value of the reactor mixing angle $\theta_{13}$, if this $\mu-\tau$ symmetry is broken in the sterile neutrino sector. We first propose a simple model based on the discrete flavour symmetry $A_4 \times Z_3 \times Z^{\prime}_3$ to realise such a scenario and then numerically evaluate the complete $3+1$ neutrino parameter space that allows such a possibility. We show that, such a possibility of generating non-zero $\theta_{13}$ can in general, remain valid even if the present $3+1$ neutrino global fit data get ruled out by future experiments. We also discuss the possible implications at neutrinoless double beta decay $(0\nu \beta \beta)$ experiments in view of the latest results from KamLAND-Zen experiment.

Ted Was Born In Indianapolis, IN, And Was Raised By His Grandmother. When He Was 13 He Moved To Manhattan Beach, CA, Where He Lived With His Aunt And Uncle. Having Promised His Aunt He Would Not Enlist Until He Was 19, Ted Attended Oregon State College For One Semester In 1942. On His 19th Birthday Ted Enlisted In The Marine Air Corps But He Failed The Eye Test. He Returned To California To Take Eye Exercises. On March 15, 1943, Ted Entered The Army And Was Assigned To The Army Air Corps. He Became A Pilot And Flew Missions In India And China In Support Of The Flying Tigers Of The 14th Air Force. He Was Awarded Numerous Medals For His Service, Including Two Distinguished Flying Crosses. After The War, Mr. Stevens Completed Degrees At UCLA And Harvard Law School. In 1950 He Joined A Law Firm In Washington, DC, Where He Met His First Wife Ann Cherrington. In 1952 Mr. Stevens Accepted A Position With Combs And Clasby, A Law Firm In Fairbanks. Later, In 1953 He Became U.S. Attorney In Fairbanks. During President Eisenhower's Administration, He Took A Job With The Interior Department In Washington, DC. In That Position, He Worked With Many Other Alaskans To Push For Alaska Statehood And Became The Chief Legal Officer (the Solicitor) Of Interior. In 1961 Ted Returned To Alaska To Practice Law In Anchorage In The New State Of Alaska. He Was Elected To The Alaska House Of Representatives In 1964. In His Second Term, Mr. Stevens Became The House Majority Leader. Mr. Stevens Was Appointed To The U.S. Senate In 1968 By Then-Governor Walter J. Hickel To Fill A Vacancy Created By The Death Of Senator E.L. (Bob) Bartlett. Two Years Later In 1970, Alaskans Chose Senator Stevens To Finish That Term. He Was Re-elected In 1972, 1978, 1984, 1990, 1996, And 2002. During His Service In The Senate, Senator Stevens Was Instrumental In The Passage Of The Legislation Settling Alaska Native Land Claims, The Authorization Of The Trans- Alaska Pipeline, Transfer Of The Alaska Railroad To The State, Creating The Essential Air Service Program And Bypass Mail Service. He Has Worked Tirelessly To Improve Health Care, Communications, And Transportation For Alaskans. Ted Fought To Enact The 200 Mile Limit To Protect Alaska's Fisheries. He Authored The American Fisheries Act To Reduce Foreign Ownership Of Alaska's Fisheries And Created The Community Development Quota Program To Promote Economic Development In Western Alaska. Ted Was A Strong Supporter Of Development Of Alaska's Resources Including Construction Of A Gas Pipeline And Opening The Coastal Plain Of The Arctic National Wildlife Range To Oil And Gas Exploration. He Was A National Leader On Pension Reform, Women In Sports, National Security And Defense. The Ted Stevens Amateur Sports Act Created The U.S. Olympic Committee. The Longest Serving Member Of Alaska's Congressional Delegation, Senator Stevens Had More Years Of Service Than Any Other Republican In The U.S. Senate And Was The Longest Serving Senator In The History Of The Republican Party. Having Served For 4 Years As The Senate's President Pro Tempore, The Presiding Officer In The Absence Of The Vice President, Senator Stevens Also Served As The Senate's President Pro Tempore Emeritus; Vice Chairman Of The Committee On Commerce, Science, And Transportation; Cochairman Of The Defense Appropriations Subcommittee; And Ranking Member Of The Disaster Recovery Homeland Security And Governmental Affairs Subcommittee. He Was Married To The Former Catherine Bittner, A Fourth Generation Alaskan And Lawyer. He Has 6 Children And 11 Grandchildren. Ted was born in Indianapolis, IN, and was raised by his grandmother. When he was 13 he moved to Manhattan Beach, CA, where he lived with his aunt and uncle. Having promised his aunt he would not enlist until he was 19, Ted attended Oregon State College for one semester in 1942. On his 19th birthday Ted enlisted in the Marine Air Corps but he failed the eye test. He returned to California to take eye exercises. On March 15, 1943, Ted entered the Army and was assigned to the Army Air Corps. He became a pilot and flew missions in India and China in support of the Flying Tigers of the 14th Air Force. He was awarded numerous medals for his service, including two Distinguished Flying Crosses. After the war, Mr. Stevens completed degrees at UCLA and Harvard Law School. In 1950 he joined a law firm in Washington, DC, where he met his first wife Ann Cherrington. In 1952 Mr. Stevens accepted a position with Combs and Clasby, a law firm in Fairbanks. Later, in 1953 he became U.S. Attorney in Fairbanks. During President Eisenhower's administration, he took a job with the Interior Department in Washington, DC. In that position, he worked with many other Alaskans to push for Alaska statehood and became the Chief Legal Officer (the Solicitor) of Interior. In 1961 Ted returned to Alaska to practice law in Anchorage in the new State of Alaska. He was elected to the Alaska House of Representatives in 1964. In his second term, Mr. Stevens became the House majority leader. Mr. Stevens was appointed to the U.S. Senate in 1968 by then-Governor Walter J. Hickel to fill a vacancy created by the death of Senator E.L. (Bob) Bartlett. Two years later in 1970, Alaskans chose Senator Stevens to finish that term. He was re-elected in 1972, 1978, 1984, 1990, 1996, and 2002. During his service in the Senate, Senator Stevens was instrumental in the passage of the legislation settling Alaska Native land claims, the authorization of the Trans- Alaska Pipeline, transfer of the Alaska Railroad to the State, creating the essential air service program and bypass mail service. He has worked tirelessly to improve health care, communications, and transportation for Alaskans. Ted fought to enact the 200 mile limit to protect Alaska's fisheries. He authored the American Fisheries Act to reduce foreign ownership of Alaska's fisheries and created the Community Development Quota Program to promote economic development in Western Alaska. Ted was a strong supporter of development of Alaska's resources including construction of a gas pipeline and opening the coastal plain of the Arctic National Wildlife Range to oil and gas exploration. He was a national leader on pension reform, women in sports, national security and defense. The Ted Stevens Amateur Sports Act created the U.S. Olympic Committee. The longest serving member of Alaska's congressional delegation, Senator Stevens had more years of service than any other Republican in the U.S. Senate and was the longest serving Senator in the history of the Republican Party. Having served for 4 years as the Senate's President pro tempore, the Presiding Officer in the absence of the Vice President, Senator Stevens also served as the Senate's President pro tempore emeritus; vice chairman of the Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation; cochairman of the Defense Appropriations Subcommittee; and ranking member of the Disaster Recovery Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Subcommittee. Ted Was Born In Indianapolis, IN, And Was Raised By His Grandmother. When He Was 13 He Moved To Manhattan Beach, CA, Where He Lived With His Aunt And Uncle. Having Promised His Aunt He Would Not Enlist Until He Was 19, Ted Attended Oregon State College For One Semester In 1942. On His 19th Birthday Ted Enlisted In The Marine Air Corps But He Failed The Eye Test. He Returned To California To Take Eye Exercises. On March 15, 1943, Ted Entered The Army And Was Assigned To The Army Air Corps. He Became A Pilot And Flew Missions In India And China In Support Of The Flying Tigers Of The 14th Air Force. He Was Awarded Numerous Medals For His Service, Including Two Distinguished Flying Crosses. After The War, Mr. Stevens Completed Degrees At UCLA And Harvard Law School. In 1950 He Joined A Law Firm In Washington, DC, Where He Met His First Wife Ann Cherrington. In 1952 Mr. Stevens Accepted A Position With Combs And Clasby, A Law Firm In Fairbanks. Later, In 1953 He Became U.S. Attorney In Fairbanks. During President Eisenhower's Administration, He Took A Job With The Interior Department In Washington, DC. In That Position, He Worked With Many Other Alaskans To Push For Alaska Statehood And Became The Chief Legal Officer (the Solicitor) Of Interior. In 1961 Ted Returned To Alaska To Practice Law In Anchorage In The New State Of Alaska. He Was Elected To The Alaska House Of Representatives In 1964. In His Second Term, Mr. Stevens Became The House Majority Leader. Mr. Stevens Was Appointed To The U.S. Senate In 1968 By Then-Governor Walter J. Hickel To Fill A Vacancy Created By The Death Of Senator E.L. (Bob) Bartlett. Two Years Later In 1970, Alaskans Chose Senator Stevens To Finish That Term. He Was Re-elected In 1972, 1978, 1984, 1990, 1996, And 2002. During His Service In The Senate, Senator Stevens Was Instrumental In The Passage Of The Legislation Settling Alaska Native Land Claims, The Authorization Of The Trans- Alaska Pipeline, Transfer Of The Alaska Railroad To The State, Creating The Essential Air Service Program And Bypass Mail Service. He Has Worked Tirelessly To Improve Health Care, Communications, And Transportation For Alaskans. Ted Fought To Enact The 200 Mile Limit To Protect Alaska's Fisheries. He Was A National Leader On Pension Reform, Women In Sports, National Security And Defense. The Ted Stevens Amateur Sports Act Created The U.S. Olympic Committee. The Longest Serving Member Of Alaska's Congressional Delegation, Senator Stevens Had More Years Of Service Than Any Other Republican In The U.S. Senate And Was The Longest Serving Senator In The History Of The Republican Party. Having Served For 4 Years As The Senate's President Pro Tempore, The Presiding Officer In The Absence Of The Vice President, Senator Stevens Also Served As The Senate's President Pro Tempore Emeritus; Vice Chairman Of The Committee On Commerce, Science, And Transportation; Cochairman Of The Defense Appropriations Subcommittee; And Ranking Member Of The Disaster Recovery Homeland Security And Governmental Affairs Subcommittee. Ted Was Born In Indianapolis, IN, And Was Raised By His Grandmother. When He Was 13 He Moved To Manhattan Beach, CA, Where He Lived With His Aunt And Uncle. Having Promised His Aunt He Would Not Enlist Until He Was 19, Ted Attended Oregon State College For One Semester In 1942. On His 19th Birthday Ted Enlisted In The Marine Air Corps But He Failed The Eye Test. He Returned To California To Take Eye Exercises. On March 15, 1943, Ted Entered The Army And Was Assigned To The Army Air Corps. He Became A Pilot And Flew Missions In India And China In Support Of The Flying Tigers Of The 14th Air Force. He Was Awarded Numerous Medals For His Service, Including Two Distinguished Flying Crosses. After The War, Mr. Stevens Completed Degrees At UCLA And Harvard Law School. In 1950 He Joined A Law Firm In Washington, DC, Where He Met His First Wife Ann Cherrington. In 1952 Mr. Stevens Accepted A Position With Combs And Clasby, A Law Firm In Fairbanks. Later, In 1953 He Became U.S. Attorney In Fairbanks. During President Eisenhower's Administration, He Took A Job With The Interior Department In Washington, DC. In That Position, He Worked With Many Other Alaskans To Push For Alaska Statehood And Became The Chief Legal Officer (the Solicitor) Of Interior. In 1961 Ted Returned To Alaska To Practice Law In Anchorage In The New State Of Alaska. He Was Elected To The Alaska House Of Representatives In 1964. In His Second Term, Mr. Stevens Became The House Majority Leader. Mr. Stevens Was Appointed To The U.S. Senate In 1968 By Then-Governor Walter J. Hickel To Fill A Vacancy Created By The Death Of Senator E.L. (Bob) Bartlett. Two Years Later In 1970, Alaskans Chose Senator Stevens To Finish That Term. He Was Re-elected In 1972, 1978, 1984, 1990, 1996, And 2002. During His Service In The Senate, Senator Stevens Was Instrumental In The Passage Of The Legislation Settling Alaska Native Land Claims, The Authorization Of The Trans- Alaska Pipeline, Transfer Of The Alaska Railroad To The State, Creating The Essential Air Service Program And Bypass Mail Service. He Has Worked Tirelessly To Improve Health Care, Communications, And Transportation For Alaskans. Ted Fought To Enact The 200 Mile Limit To Protect Alaska's Fisheries. He Authored The American Fisheries Act To Reduce Foreign Ownership Of Alaska's Fisheries And Created The Community Development Quota Program To Promote Economic Development In Western Alaska. Ted Was A Strong Supporter Of Development Of Alaska's Resources Including Construction Of A Gas Pipeline And Opening The Coastal Plain Of The Arctic National Wildlife Range To Oil And Gas Exploration. He Was A National Leader On Pension Reform, Women In Sports, National Security And Defense. The Ted Stevens Amateur Sports Act Created The U.S. Olympic Committee. The Longest Serving Member Of Alaska's Congressional Delegation, Senator Stevens Had More Years Of Service Than Any Other Republican In The U.S. Senate And Was The Longest Serving Senator In The History Of The Republican Party. Having Served For 4 Years As The Senate's President Pro Tempore, The Presiding Officer In The Absence Of The Vice President, Senator Stevens Also Served As The Senate's President Pro Tempore Emeritus; Vice Chairman Of The Committee On Commerce, Science, And Transportation; Cochairman Of The Defense Appropriations Subcommittee; And Ranking Member Of The Disaster Recovery Homeland Security And Governmental Affairs Subcommittee. Ted Was Born In Indianapolis, IN, And Was Raised By His Grandmother. When He Was 13 He Moved To Manhattan Beach, CA, Where He Lived With His Aunt And Uncle. Having Promised His Aunt He Would Not Enlist Until He Was 19, Ted Attended Oregon State College For One Semester In 1942. On His 19th Birthday Ted Enlisted In The Marine Air Corps But He Failed The Eye Test. He Returned To California To Take Eye Exercises. On March 15, 1943, Ted Entered The Army And Was Assigned To The Army Air Corps. He Became A Pilot And Flew Missions In India And China In Support Of The Flying Tigers Of The 14th Air Force. He Was Awarded Numerous Medals For His Service, Including Two Distinguished Flying Crosses. After The War, Mr. Stevens Completed Degrees At UCLA And Harvard Law School. In 1950 He Joined A Law Firm In Washington, DC, Where He Met His First Wife Ann Cherrington. In 1952 Mr. Stevens Accepted A Position With Combs And Clasby, A Law Firm In Fairbanks. Later, In 1953 He Became U.S. Attorney In Fairbanks. During President Eisenhower's Administration, He Took A Job With The Interior Department In Washington, DC. In That Position, He Worked With Many Other Alaskans To Push For Alaska Statehood And Became The Chief Legal Officer (the Solicitor) Of Interior. In 1961 Ted Returned To Alaska To Practice Law In Anchorage In The New State Of Alaska. He Was Elected To The Alaska House Of Representatives In 1964. In His Second Term, Mr. Stevens Became The House Majority Leader. Mr. Stevens Was Appointed To The U.S. Senate In 1968 By Then-Governor Walter J. Hickel To Fill A Vacancy Created By The Death Of Senator E.L. (Bob) Bartlett. Two Years Later In 1970, Alaskans Chose Senator Stevens To Finish That Term. He Was Re-elected In 1972, 1978, 1984, 1990, 1996, And 2002. The running of the Top quark mass is considered in the nonperturbative framework of the Schwinger-Dyson equation. Based on the input of physical pole mass meassured at the Tevatron the method provides the resulting mass function which is almost constant at low spacelike and timelike scales. The skeleton loops including Standard Model Higgs and gluons are taken into account. 35A Full Parametrization Of The 6 X 6 Flavor Mixing Matrix In The Presence Of Three Light Or Heavy Sterile Neutrinos

In addition to three active neutrinos, one or more light sterile neutrinos have been conjectured to account for the LSND, MiniBooNE and reactor antineutrino anomalies (at the sub-eV mass scale) or for warm dark matter in the Universe (at the keV mass scale). Heavy Majorana neutrinos at or above the TeV scale have also been assumed in some seesaw models. Such hypothetical particles can weakly mix with active neutrinos, and thus their existence can be detected at low energies. In the (3+3) scenario with three sterile neutrinos we present a full parametrization of the 6 X 6 flavor mixing matrix in terms of fifteen rotation angles and fifteen phase angles. We show that this standard parametrization allows us to clearly describe the salient features of some problems in neutrino phenomenology, such as (a) possible contributions of light sterile neutrinos to the tritium beta decay and neutrinoless double-beta decay; (b) leptonic CP violation and deformed unitarity triangles of the 3 X 3 flavor mixing matrix of three active neutrinos; (c) a reconstruction of the 6 X 6 neutrino mass matrix in the type-(I+II) seesaw mechanism; and (d) flavored and unflavored leptogenesis scenarios in the type-I seesaw mechanism with three heavy Majorana neutrinos.
