The James M Cain Series 1: The Postman Always Rings Twice First broadcast: Sat 30th Nov 2013, 14:30 on BBC Radio 4 FM Frank Chambers, a young drifter in 1930s California, stops at a diner and is offered a job. The owner is Nick Papadakis, and his much younger, beautiful wife, Cora. There is immediate sexual chemistry between Frank and Cora, and they begin a passionate affair. Cora is tired of working at the diner, and of her husband, so they decide to murder Nick and start a new life together. The plan is to hit Nick over the head and make it look like he drowned in the bath. But the plan goes wrong, and soon everything starts to unravel. At last, here is the script by Mamet for the 1981 version of The Postman Always Rings Twice.  When thinking of the thought of Mamet adapting a James M. Cain novel, I thought it would be interesting to give it a watch.  Which I could've regretted the first time as I should've watched the original 1946 version first.   So I had a chance to see the 1981 version and to me; it was okay, neat, to really later on, it went boring as such.  Looking back - I was really being unfair to it.  Maybe I'll look into it someday to revisit to give it a second chance... -- Tue D. We review some of our recent results concerning the relationship between the Real-Space Renormalization Group method and Quantum Groups. We show this relation by applying real-space RG methods to study two quantum group invariant Hamiltonians, that of the XXZ model and the Ising model in a transverse field (ITF) defined in an open chain with appropriate boundary terms. The quantum group symmetry is preserved under the RG transformation except for the appearence of a quantum group anomalous term which vanishes in the classical case. This is called {\em the quantum group anomaly}. We derive the new qRG equations for the XXZ model and show that the RG-flow diagram obtained in this fashion exhibits the correct line of critical points that the exact model has. In the ITF model the qRG-flow equations coincide with the tensor product decomposition of cyclic irreps of $SU_q(2)$ with $q^4=1$.

"The Postman Always Rings the Homunculous of Woody Allen & Hollis Frampton Twice" : In 1996, Orgone Cinema gave me a short 35mm filmstrip to add a soundtrack to for a FILMSTRIPS show they were planning. This was the result. The sound is full of displacement jokes, occult references (inspired by Aleister Crowley) , experimental film self-reference to 'artifacts', & all sorts of esoterica too complex to go into here. The title alone, of course, conflates the 'noir' bk/film "The Postman Always Rings Twice" (there's sampling from that film) w/ a reference to the ceremonial magikal meaning of a homunculous as a magikally produced 'little man' - as if he's the product of the cross-fertilization of the comedies of Woody Allen w/ the experimental filmmaking of Hollis Frampton.
