Recipient of the Academy Award for Best Short Animated Film in 2000, The Old Man and the Sea tells the story of an elderly fisherman. Santiago is a proud man but he no longer has the energy that he once had. He has not caught a single fish in weeks. One morning, he decides to go offshore and to stay at sea until he catches something to prove to himself that he is still capable. Thus begins a relentless battle between an old man and an enormous fish that may end up being the catch of his life. The thesis aims at a brief analysis of the manifestation of the code hero in The Old Man and the Sea which is one of Ernest Hemingway’s most prominent works. It will firstly research on the background information of Hemingway and find out the influence of the personal experience on his creation. The following analysis of the code hero in The Old Man and the Sea will be conducted by listing and analyzing in detail the specific features on the basis of the general knowledge of Hemingway hero. The main characteristics of the code hero in The Old Man and the Sea include the despairing courage, endurance of loneliness, pain and hardship, pride and dignity and intelligence.

Among many great American writers, Hemingway is famous for his objective and terse prose style. As all the novels Hemingway published in his life, "The Old Man and the Sea" typically reflects his unique writing style. The language is simple and natural on the surface, but actually deliberate and artificial. Hemingway's style is related to his experience as a journalist. The influence of his style is great all over the world. "The Old Man and the Sea" is full of facts, most of which comes from Hemingway own experience. In the forepart of the novel, they are used to show the quality of Santiago's life, and are narrated simply and naturally; while in the latter part of the novel, they are used from inside Santiago's own consciousness and form part of a whole scheme of the novel.

Having no more and greater hope in life and spend days to wait for the death. There we find some people like Santiago who live his life `as young even in his old age. Young age is valued everywhere in all civilizations and even the greatest warriors and heroes painted in mythology and literature of East and West were young. But there are very few works in literature where old man is having the personality of a young man.

In this article, a comparison is shown as an expressive agent of artistic speech on the example of the story of E. Hemingway Old Man and the Sea . In the process of research, all comparisons found were divided into different groups depending on the subject, structure, the degree of complexity. The author cites the differences in figurative and logical comparisons. Under the sample comparison is a comparison of two items, which has a common feature for them, in order to more brighter one of them, while a logical comparison is a comparison of two objects belonging to one class. Considered main ways to transfer formal comparisons. It is concluded that the translation of the comparisons found in the text is close to the original. The Old Man and the Sea is a novel that is written by the American author Ernest Hemingway, . The novel is full of religious utterances and symbols. Different translators have translated this novel into various languages. Gabrielle Wahbeh is a Christian Egyptian writer who translated this novel into Arabic.   By reading the source text and the translated text, I can tell that Wahbe’s translation of the novel differs from the original text in regards to religious terms paraphrasing them. The results show that none of the Arabic idioms used in this study have equivalences in English language and so, what is shown are the paraphrased meaning for each   My study will be based on the comparison and analysis of the translation including some examples from the source text into Arabic. The main aim for this study is to highlight Venuti’s translation strategy “domestication “that has been used in translating this novel into Arabic.   Translation is the process of rendering a unit from one language (Source Language) into another (Target Language). When it comes to idioms (fixed expressions consisting of two words or more giving a meaning different from the meaning of the individual words), the translators are going to face a number of troubles. This study focuses on translating the Arabic idioms . The methodology of this study is based on a number of statements collected verbally or through written texts and expressing the meaning by paraphrasing them. The results show that none of the Arabic idioms used in this study have equivalences in English language and so, what is shown are the paraphrased meaning for each.

Ernest Hemingway is one of the greatest writers that America has produced. His works have indeed, contributed immensely in shaping the literary path in his country. All his novels are tragedies and his heroes tragic heroes because he is always conscious of man's mortality. In this paper, we have undertaken a critical study of Hemingway's exploration of the theme of "the trapped man" in "A Farewell to Arms" and "The Old Man and the Sea." Hemingway believes that man is biologically trapped and doomed to suffer and die. This is clearly demonstrated by Frederick Henry in "A Farewell to Arms." However, in "The Old Man and the Sea," Santiago, the protagonist has demonstrated that though man is a victim of a hostile universe, he is not made for defeat. Santiago's actions prove that with a dogged determination and focus, it is possible for humanity to overcome the biological trap and achieve success in life. We believe that this important lesson lays credence to the utilitarian value of literature to the society. This prerequisite for overcoming the biological trap is a necessary antidote because the trap does not only hang over Hemingway's characters but humanity as a whole.
