22018. Recording Bear (BEAR-1 And BEAR-2) And Douglas-fir Beetle (1-1) Tree Mortality Using The New Digital Mobile Sketch Map (DMSM) System. Olympic Peninsula, Washington.

Recording bear (BEAR-1 and BEAR-2) and Douglas-fir beetle (1-1) tree mortality using the new Digital Mobile Sketch Map (DMSM) system. Olympic Peninsula, Washington. Note: 2018 is the first year the Digital Mobile Sketch Map (DMSM) system's used for forest health data collection in Oregon and Washington. "DMSM is tablet hardware, software, and back end data support processes (ArcGIS Desktop Tools) that allow trained aerial surveyors, in light aircraft, and ground observers to record forest disturbances and their causal agents. DMSM replaces the legacy Digital Aerial Sketch Mapping (DASM) and will greatly enhance the quality and quantity of forest health data while improving safety by integrating with programs such as operational remote sensing (ORS) which uses satellite imagery to monitor disturbances." For more about DMSM see: www.fs.fed.us/foresthealth/applied-sciences/mapping-repor... For the 2018 arcgis storymap covering aerial surveys conducted in Oregon and Washington, see: arcg.is/fKr0f For more about the Region 6 aerial survey program see: www.fs.usda.gov/detail/r6/forest-grasslandhealth/insects-... 19Genetic Structure And Diversity Of The Endangered Fir Tree Of Lebanon (Abies Cilicica Carr.): Implications For Conservation.

By

This article is from PLoS ONE , volume 9 . Abstract The threatened conifer Abies cilicica currently persists in Lebanon in geographically isolated forest patches. The impact of demographic and evolutionary processes on population genetic diversity and structure were assessed using 10 nuclear microsatellite loci. All remnant 15 local populations revealed a low genetic variation but a high recent effective population size. FST-based measures of population genetic differentiation revealed a low spatial genetic structure, but Bayesian analysis of population structure identified a significant Northeast-Southwest population structure. Populations showed significant but weak isolation-by-distance, indicating non-equilibrium conditions between dispersal and genetic drift. Bayesian assignment tests detected an asymmetric Northeast-Southwest migration involving some long-distance dispersal events. We suggest that the persistence and Northeast-Southwest geographic structure of Abies cilicica in Lebanon is the result of at least two demographic processes during its recent evolutionary history: (1) recent migration to currently marginal populations and (2) local persistence through altitudinal shifts along a mountainous topography. These results might help us better understand the mechanisms involved in the species response to expected climate change.

241966. John Wear In A Helicopter That Hovers Next To The Top Of A Tall Douglas-fir Tree While A Branchlet Is Clipped With The Newly Developed Tree Pruner To Sample Foliage.

John Wear in a helicopter that hovers next to the top of a tall Douglas-fir tree while a branchlet is clipped with the newly developed tree pruner to sample foliage. Abstract: A new technique for sampling tops of tall Douglas-fir trees by using a special pole pruner from a helicopter has been developed and field tested. The pole pruner cuts and holds a branchlet. Foliage samples collected will be compared by spectral analysis to show the type of aerial imagery that best differentiates healthy trees from those attacked by root rot. From: Wear, John F.; Winterfeld, Robert G. 1966. Sampling tree tops by helicopter...special pole pruner cuts branchlets. Res. Note PSW-RN-131. 32The Fairy Fir Tree ( Happy Holidays!) Krita Timelapse 1080p

By

I compressed the 6h (or more) of recorded video for an illustration into a 8min timelapse. Honnestly, the artwork could have been done twice faster; but I made 'small' mistakes on the first steps of the making-of (maybe I wanted to go too fast?). Main mistakes: no consistent light direction on foreground and background + wanting to hide the special effect to the end for the tree decoration and finding midway the result is not in my taste anymore. Lessons I learnt on this one: block the keylight more seriously on the underpainting (a layer I tend to be very distracted by all the yummy colors and ambiant possibilities). All of that made me paint-over 3 or 4 times area... But the end illustration is fine, so I thought it was interesting to share the process and annotate to show the mistakes. I hope you'll like this! 38The Fir-Tree Fairy Book

By

LibriVox recording of The Fir-Tree Fairy Book by Clifton Johnson. Read in English by many volunteer readers. In this volume, Clifton Johnson has compiled his favourite fairy tales. We hear a lot of animals, because fairy tales with animals in them are Mr. Johnson's favourite stories, but we also hear of fairies, of wizards, and princesses. The stories are sometimes taken from the famous volumes of the Brothers Grimm or from Anderson, but a lot of them are based on folklore and stories from around the world. - Summary by Carolin For further information, including links to online text, reader information, RSS feeds, CD cover or other formats (if available), please go to the LibriVox catalog page for this recording. 41The Little Fir And The Christmas Tree Angel

By

This heartwarming story for all ages is based on a true event that happened in the first Great Depression. When the Christmas Tree Angel comes to the tree farm to announce that some trees will be taken to the city to bring joy to families there, a straggly little tree yearns to be chosen. But in the city, no one selects her, and she falls into deep despair. But on Christmas eve, a woman enters the lot just as the man is about to close it….and something wondrous begins. Watch the video to see what unfolds. Let your heart be touched by the beauty and miracles of love. This is our 2020 gift to all. 2Udvalgte Danske Eventyr 001

"H. C. Andersen opfattes af de fleste mennesker først og fremmest som en børnebogsforfatter. Det er samtidig meget typisk for hans eventyr, at fortællingerne også rummer passager, der taler til den voksne læsers forståelse. Derfor kan såvel børn som voksne have glæde af at opleve - eller genopleve - historierne. Samlingen her indeholder både kendte og mindre kendte eventyr og rummer et lille udsnit af H. C. Andersens mangfoldige forfatterskab." Summary by Kristoffer Hunsdahl

14Little Mermaid

By

Book's cover

The Little Mermaid" (Danish: Den lille havfrue, literally: "the little sea lady") is a very well known fairy tale by the Danish author Hans Christian Andersen about a young mermaid willing to give up her life in the sea and her identity as a mermaid to gain a human soul and the love of a human prince. The tale was first published in 1837 and has been adapted to various media including musical theatre and animated film. But this tale is not the Disney version, all cleaned up and made pretty. This is the way Andersen wrote it. The Little Mermaid is indeed at the happy wedding of her beloved prince, but she is not the bride. And then she becomes a big bubble. Curious? Listen and find out what happens. - Summary by Wikipedia and Phil Chenevert

16Emperor's New Clothes

By

Book's cover

This is a collection of a few of my personal favorite stories by Hans Christian Andersen that I most loved as a child and still enjoy as an adult. The Emperor's New Clothes was funny from my earliest years because even then I could see that it poked fun at adults and their silly pretensions; The Ugly Duckling I think, was enjoyable because the bullied little one turned out so well and it had a happy ending although I thought even as a child that the protagonist should have gone back and brought those mean barnyard fowl down a peg or two. Little Tiny or Thumbellina is just a sweet story with adventure thrown in and The Brave Little Tin Soldier was and is a tribute to bravery and steadfastness. The last story, There Is No Doubt About It ! was so obviously silly and fun even to a young child and frankly, I just love the way the animals talk in this story. (summary by the reader)

22Faery Tales from Hans Christian Andersen

By

This is a 1910 edition of the Fairy Tales of Hans Christian Andersen. This volume is nicely mixed, containing both the most famous tales as well as some which are not quite as well-known. The translation is adapted for American readership and in some ways brings a new facet to some of the stories. Listeners may want to have a look at the online text for its beautiful colour illustrations. - Summary by Carolin

This collection of fairy tales include many that you may never have heard of. Published in 1884, Andersen obviously enjoyed putting many unique stories in it that he found fun to tell and listen to but which may not have been known to his growing audience of children and people. The short life of Hans Christian Anderson that starts the book will be included in this recording, even though it was written by the editor and not by Anderson. - Summary by phil chenevert

26Andersens Märchen Ergänzungsband

By

Book's cover
