1The Effect And Mechanism Of Mindful Parenting Training On Parental Unconditional Acceptance, Parenting Practice And Child Well-being

By

This study investigates the impact and mechanisms of mindful parenting training on parental unconditional acceptance, parenting practices, and child well-being. Parenting conditional regard, where parents provide more affection based on desirable behaviors, can harm child development, leading to issues like low self-esteem and depressive symptoms. In contrast, parental unconditional acceptance, which involves providing non-judgmental warmth and love regardless of the child's behavior, has been shown to buffer negative feelings, promote resilience, and enhance self-worth in children. Antecedents of unconditional acceptance include child-based worth and parental unconditional self-acceptance. Child-based worth, where parental self-worth is linked to their child's success, can reduce unconditional acceptance. Conversely, parental unconditional self-acceptance, where parents accept themselves regardless of success or approval, enhances unconditional acceptance toward their children. This self-acceptance facilitates more authoritative parenting practices, such as setting boundaries and providing structure, without increasing permissiveness. Mindful parenting, defined as present-centered, non-judgmental awareness, improves parental attention quality, reduces stress, and decreases dysfunctional parenting. Mindfulness fosters attitudes like acceptance, patience, and non-judgmental interactions, which are crucial for promoting unconditional acceptance. This study uses a randomized controlled trial (RCT) design with an intervention called Mindful Parenting (MP) to investigate the effectiveness and underlying mechanism of mindfulness' effect on parenting. Research questions include: What are the effects of mindful parenting training on well-being, unconditional acceptance and its underlying mechanisms? Does increased unconditional acceptance lead to changes in parenting practices at home? What factors moderate the relationship between parental unconditional acceptance and the child's perception of it? By addressing these questions, the study aims to provide insights into how mindful parenting training can enhance parental unconditional acceptance, improve parenting practices, and positively influence child well-being. The ultimate goal is to promote healthier family dynamics and better developmental outcomes for children.
