There is a controversy over whether The Diary of Anne Frank is authentic or a forgery. This is an important part of the Holocaust because, for many Americans, this is the only piece of Holocaust literature that they will ever read. There are some people who believe that it is authentic, but who also think that it does not matter whether it is a forgery because this happened to so many children during the war. So many jewish children were hidden by non-jews. If they were found then they were dragged off to death camps. This is were the story breaks down. When Anne Frank was found she was taken to Bergen-Belsen, not a death camp at all. Whether this book was a forgery or not is irrelevant as the premise of the story about children being dragged off to death camps is itself fictitious. Even if she would have been in the east and dragged off to Auschwitz, she would have been schooled in the room with the beautiful Swiss chalet painting, or helped in the jewish maternity ward, or acted in the plays, or played in the band... Anne Frank kept a diary from June 12, 1942, to August 1, 1944. Initially, she wrote it strictly for herself. Then, one day in 1944, Gerrit Bolkestein, a member of the Dutch government in exile, announced in a radio broadcast from London that after the war he hoped to collect eyewitness accounts of the suffering of the Dutch people under the German occupation, which could be made available to the public.

The Diary of Anne Frank  is a 1959  biographical   drama  film based on the  Pulitzer Prize -winning 1955  play of the same name , which was in turn based on the  posthumously published diary  of  Anne Frank , a Jewish girl who lived in hiding with her family during  World War II . It was  directed  by  George Stevens , with a  screenplay  by  Frances Goodrich  and  Albert Hackett , is the first film version of both the play and the original story, and features three members of the original Broadway cast. All Anne Frank's writings to her diary were addressed as "Dear Kitty". It was published after the end of the war by her father,  Otto Frank  (played in the film by  Joseph Schildkraut , who was also Jewish). All of his family members had been killed by the Nazis. The film was shot on a sound stage duplicate of the factory in Los Angeles, while exteriors were filmed at the actual building in Amsterdam. The film was positively received by critics, currently holding an 80% critics rating on  Rotten Tomatoes . It won three  Academy Awards  in 1960, including  Best Supporting Actress  for  Shelley Winters . Shelley later donated her Oscar to the Anne Frank Museum. In 2006, it was honored as the eighteenth most inspiring American film on the list  AFI's 100 Years…100 Cheers .

The 'Diary of Anne Frank' Exposed as a Fraud In the 1970's, the stories passed down about the WW-2 German prison camps were welded together into a narrative we now call "the Holocaust" - meaning "the burnt offering." Through telling and re-telling, the Holocaust has grown to a multi-million dollar industry, and has changed to mean something particular to Jewish history. It has been used to found a nation (Israel), and to justify many exceptions to morality. Investigations of physical evidence and original documentation, however, have cast doubts on the Holocaust narrative that has been formed. For example, areas claimed to be mass graves, have been found with modern investigative technology to contain no human remains. Testimonies of accused perpetrators show evidence of outright fabrication, or were obtained through torture. Many of the supposed eyewitnesses have provided stories riddled by inconsistencies, describe physically impossible events, or were even total frauds who were never actually in the camps. If the Holocaust narrative is false, the ramifications are far reaching. Ethnic Germans have been slandered for decades on the basis of the Holocaust. Terrorism used in the founding of Israel was justified through it. The Diary of Anne Frank  is a  BBC  adaptation, in association with  France 2 , of  The Diary of a Young Girl  originally written by  Anne Frank  from 1942 to 1944 and adapted for television by  Deborah Moggach .  It was shown from 5–9 January 2009 in five half-hour episodes.  Representatives of the BBC have said that they "hope [that] this drama will bring Anne [Frank] alive to viewers of all generations."  A DVD of the series was released on 12 January 2009. It also aired on the  Public Broadcasting Service  (PBS)  Public television  in the United States on 11 April 2010, as part of its  Masterpiece  series.  The American broadcast was cut from 150 minutes to 100 and broadcast in one evening instead of over five evenings.
