1ERIC EJ1132199: Investigation Of The Relationship Between Communication Skills, Social Competence And Emotion Regulation Skills Of Preschool Children In Turkey
By ERIC
The aim of this study is to investigate the relationship between communication skills, social competence and emotion regulation skills of preschool children. Children attending public primary schools who were 53 to 80 months old from the middle socio-economic class were chosen randomly from Istanbul City center districts for this study. They were 426 children. The average age of the children was 68.91 months. One of the three data collection tools was "Communication Skills Scale for 5 to 6 Years Old Children" with 4 subscales developed by Önder, Dagal and Salli. The internal consistency of the scale (Communication Skills Scale for 5 to 6 Years Old Children) was 0.98. The second data collection tool was named SCBE-30, which evaluates symptoms of problems and quantity of social skills of preschool children, consists of 30 items and has three subscales. The internal consistency of the social competence scale was 0.88. "Emotion Regulation Checklist" was the third data collection tool, which was adapted into Turkish by Batum and Yagmurlu to measure children's ability to regulate their emotions and has two subscales. Internal consistency coefficient of the subscales was 0.73 and 0.75. The study was based on descriptive analysis and multiple regression correlation was examined. As a result of the research, it was concluded that there was not a relationship between communication skills' total score and social competence and emotion regulation skills. However, when subscales of each concepts were examined separately, it was found out that social competence and anxiety/withdrawal subscale together explained communication skills of preschool children moderately. And social competence, anxiety/withdrawal, anger/aggression and emotion regulation subscales explained active communication skills of preschool children moderately.

4ERIC ED437924: A Comparison Of The Task-Oriented Model And The Social-Emotion-Oriented Model In Computer-Mediated Communication.
By ERIC
Compared with other media, computer-mediated communication (CMC) is a relatively new mode of communication that has emerged in the past two decades. In the past decade, there has been a growing body of research on CMC. There are two dominant models of CMC: the task-oriented and the social-emotion-oriented. This review discusses, compares, and contrasts several major aspects of these two models. Results indicate that both models share similarities in three areas: research methods, participants' characteristics, and task characteristics. However, the models have differences in three other areas: theoretical foundations, technology and experimental duration in research methodology, and major findings. Suggestions for future CMC research are proposed in order to more clearly identify the nature of CMC environments. (Contains 93 references.) (Author/MES)

6ERIC ED065791: Sex, Personality, And Physiological Variables In The Communication Of Emotion Via Facial Expression.
By ERIC
One goal of this study was to investigate sex differences in facial expressiveness. The study used all possible combinations of males and females in the positions of "sender" and "observer" of the facial communication to determine which factor was responsible for the superior accuracy among females, as reported in a previous study. Another goal of this study was to replicate the negative correlation found in the previous study between communication accuracy and physiological responding. Subjects were 32 female and 32 male undergraduates at the University of Pittsburgh. These subjects were run in 32 sender-observer pairs using a special apparatus and detailed procedure. The results indicated that female senders showed more accurate communication than male senders, but female observers were not reliably more accurate than male observers. The experimenter rated females as exhibiting more facial movement than males. This study replicated the findings of an earlier study which found a negative relationship between facial communication and skin conductance responding for males, but the correlation for females did not attain significance. 8The Role Of Emotion In Climate Change Communication
By Matthew H. Goldberg and Laura Thomas-Walters
The primary research question of this study is how emotionality affects communication about the links between climate change and extreme weather. More specifically, if a) neutral or emotional delivery and b) neutral or emotional content is more effective, and if there is any interaction between delivery and content.

93. Communication IJCMS The Study Of Users’ Facial Emotion Toward Commercial 1234567891011
Many online systems lack the ability of understanding and responding to users’ emotions. Commercial website appearance which is suitable to users’ emotion could attract and motivate users to purchase. In order to measure peoples’ emotion responses, physical and psychological methods are often used in Kansei studies. Facial expression, one of essential physical emotion response, directly reveals people’s perceptive feel. The aim of the study is mainly to explore the relationship between users’ facial emotion and commercial websites. In addition, the correlation between physical perception and cognitional respond is analyzed and discussed. The research method firstly is to explore website design factors by group discussion and investigation. Second, the experiment was executed to collect the participants’ emotion data including facial expression and psychological self-report emotion responds to commercial websites. ANOVA and Quantification Theory Type I were applied to statistically analyze the data. The results yield that some website design factors - situated color and graphic banner size- have significant effects on users’ psychological emotion and facial expression. The developed computing model provides an approach to predict the adapted design to users’ emotion.

11ERIC ED394156: The Construct Of Emotion In The Study Of Nonverbal Communication: A Need For Definition And Greater Consideration For The Influences Of Socialization And Culture.
By ERIC
Nonverbal communicative behaviors are a primary channel for emotional expression. Emotions, in turn, strongly influence nonverbal communication displays. Thus, the role of emotions should be a central consideration in nonverbal communication studies. A study examined 34 articles, published in the "Journal of Nonverbal Behavior" between 1976 and 1994, to determine how emotion is characterized and what role is attributed to socialization and culture in emotional expression. Results indicated that emotions were usually considered simply as an abstract categorical term (e.g., fear), with little consideration for causal motivations. The impact of socialization and cultural variation was also ignored in a majority of the studies. Contains 47 references. (Author/RS)

1Tyranny of Weakness
By Charles Neville Buck

Torn between her love for her aging father, a minister steeped in the puritanical values of old New England, and the young Virginian who was born and raised of southern chivalrous tradition, the many and conflicting emotions which stir deep within Conscience Williams envelop this tale of desire, devotion, inner strength, devious treachery, and individuality of spirit.

There would be many obstacles in the path of Conscience's future, and many trials to overcome. Fate has a way of molding inequities in our lives; circumstance is often a veil stronger than the human will can endure. In summarized simplicity, The Tyranny of Weakness is a gripping and intense story of life. However it is also a complex and compelling story of injustice in the face of sincerity; of conflicting traditions; of generational differences; of bold deceit; and of inner strength in dealing with family bonds. 3Mother (Version 2)
By Pearl S. Buck

As with Pearl Buck's most famous 1st novel, The Good Earth, this 2nd book also describes peasant life in rural China about 150 years ago--from a woman's close perspective. Life was gruelingly hard. The people were illiterate, superstitious, uneducated, provincial, the culture entirely male dominated. And yet, this book captures the dignity, pleasures, hopes, fears and dreams shared among villagers despite their extreme poverty, and the influence exerted by women over their families. Themes of love, lust, greed, gambling, chauvinism, narcissism, crime, greed, injustice, tyranny, revolution, abortion, etc., are all masterfully woven into the narrative of one unnamed mother's devotion, without a moment of preaching, in this poignantly beautiful masterpiece.
