This is the full audiobook version of The BFG ( The Big Friendly Giant ) by Roald Dahl . It was published on audiocassette in 1989 by Tempo with narration and voices by Amanda Root, who you may remember her as the voice of Sophie from the original animated film which came out in the same year, and also Jeremy Bulloch who's voice of The BFG sounds much similar to the one voiced by David Jason in the original animation film as well. Sophie is determined that the giants must be stopped from carrying out their fiendish plans, and the only person she can think of with enough power is Her Majesty the Queen of England. Roald Dahl's 1982 novel The BFG gets the Steven Spielberg/Disney treatment in a grand fete of motion capture and live action. Roald Dahl's 1982 novel The BFG gets the Steven Spielberg/Disney treatment in a grand fete of motion capture and live action...An orphan girl in jolly old England becomes friends with a giant who's been around...and the pair, with some help, take on a band of man-eating giants targeting children...The BFG, or Big Friendly Giant, is big on effects on they do look amazing.His home is so intricate...I wanted a better look to see where everything led to...the passages, the troughs, the bridges...And that attention to detail was present throughout from the sod blankets in Giant Country to the fizz-whizzers buzzing around dream land.The performances also, top notch. Mark Rylance stars as the BFG doing his first motion capture role which he called "liberating."...and he was very good as were his giant counterparts led by the 50 foot tall Fleshlumpeater played by Jemaine Clement of Flight of Concords fame.His counterpart The Bloodbottler is played by Bill Hader. Other colorful giant names include, The Gizzardgulper, The Bonecruncher and The Maidmasher...Little Sophie is played fantastically by 12-year old Ruby Barnhill...who has the most amazing accent.But all that goodness can't help where this film slips and that's in the pacing...it's really kind of slow and boring.This is Spielberg's first film in collaboration with Disney...and maybe a Dahl book wasn't the right source material......so much of the edge and darkness is gone.That said, I saw it with two young boys who said they really enjoyed it......but I think it was mostly because of one scene that was well, shall we say, frobscottle-induced.The BFG wasn't bad...it was more of meh, and for that I give it two and three quarter stars on the Rob rating scale...It's not a must see...but also not a bad way to spend a couple hours with the kids.I'm RL, this is Rivet, and I'll see you at the concession stand.
