The trail ends on Poopsie's yacht...where the notes lead Poopsie to a surprise party for his birthday!.

Only two complete sets of the 1884 edition are known to exist, both in the archives of George Philip, who had taken over Stanford's in the mid-twentieth century, now held at the Royal Geographic Society, London. Eventually Stanford updated and added new plates. In 1887 Stanford published the London Atlas of universal geography folio edition with 90 plates. It contained important new maps, including the North Pole, Malta, Cyprus, the approaches to the Black Sea, parts of Canada and Australia. Efficient scalar multiplication in Abelian groups (which is an important operation in public key cryptography) can be performed using digital expansions. Apart from rational integer bases (double-and-add algorithm), imaginary quadratic integer bases are of interest for elliptic curve cryptography, because the Frobenius endomorphism fulfils a quadratic equation. One strategy for improving the efficiency is to increase the digit set (at the prize of additional precomputations). A common choice is the width\nbd-$w$ non-adjacent form (\wNAF): each block of $w$ consecutive digits contains at most one non-zero digit. Heuristically, this ensures a low weight, i.e.\ number of non-zero digits, which translates in few costly curve operations. This paper investigates the following question: Is the \wNAF{}-expansion optimal, where optimality means minimising the weight over all possible expansions with the same digit set? The main characterisation of optimality of \wNAF{}s can be formulated in the following more general setting: We consider an Abelian group together with an endomorphism (e.g., multiplication by a base element in a ring) and a finite digit set. We show that each group element has an optimal \wNAF{}-expansion if and only if this is the case for each sum of two expansions of weight 1. This leads both to an algorithmic criterion and to generic answers for various cases. Imaginary quadratic integers of trace at least 3 (in absolute value) have optimal \wNAF{}s for $w\ge 4$. The same holds for the special case of base $(\pm 3\pm\sqrt{-3})/2$ and $w\ge 2$, which corresponds to Koblitz curves in characteristic three. In the case of $\tau=\pm1\pm i$, optimality depends on the parity of $w$. Computational results for small trace are given.

A study of animal-sediment interrelationships on the Bermuda slope was initiated during the summer of 1961. Analytical work on the samples was carried out during the academic year 1961-62 at Lehigh University and the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution . The purpose of the study was to determine, in as quantitative a manner as possible, the composition of the benthic fauna and associated carbonate sediments, and the variation in these with increasing depth and distance from land. It was hoped that from the study interrelationships between the organisms and the substrate could be established. The field work involved a bathymetric survey of a portion of the southeastern Bermuda slope and sampling for sediments and organisms within this area. Analytical work included texture and mineralogy of the sediments, and biological makeup of the sedimentary particles and the living infauna.

This is a survey of literature records for occurrence and taxonomy of zooplankton in the Western Mediterranean, with particular emphasis on the Alboran Sea. It is intended to give a background on the Fauna, and facilitate identification of specimens collected or observed. A description of the hydrography of the Alboran Sea is followed by a general account of zooplankton biomass distribution, and more detailed lists of the occurrence of 361 species of medusae, siphonophores, ctenophores, worms, tunicates and crustaceans in 7 regions of the Western Mediterranean. The map shows the extent of the British, French, and Spanish colonial possessions. The information on the map was based on Popple's work at the Board of Trade and Plantations in London. Popple's map was widely copied by other cartographers and remained the standard map of North America for several decades. The map was issued both as a wall map and as an Atlas, with the present example including advertising for the various formats in the lower margin of sheet 17, including pricing of the various formats. The map shows the extent of the British, French, and Spanish colonial possessions. The information on the map was based on Popple's work at the Board of Trade and Plantations in London. Popple's map was widely copied by other cartographers and remained the standard map of North America for several decades. The map was issued both as a wall map and as an Atlas, with the present example including advertising for the various formats in the lower margin of sheet 17, including pricing of the various formats.
