A Christian man in Pakistan has been acquitted of blasphemy and released from prison after serving 10 years of a life sentence. International Christian Concern reports the Lahore High Court has acquitted Imran Ghafur Masih, a Christian sentenced to life in prison under Pakistan's blasphemy laws. According to Imran's family, they have moved into hiding following the acquittal due to potential threats from Islamic extremists. In the present study, the mechanical behavior of Vanyar Rock fill dam has been evaluated ten years after the completion of the dam body.3D numerical analysis was performed based on the finite element method for the body and dam supports in Midas software. The data recorded by the tools in the dam body were compared with the results of numerical analysis at the tools site. The results showed that the amount of settlement, amount of pore pressure and the total stress obtained from the numerical analysis were consistent with the data recorded by the instruments. In linear behavior between instrumentation data and numerical analysis of settlement, pore pressure and total stress correlation coefficients were 84, 67 and 99%, respectively. .The maximum settlement values obtained from numerical analysis and instrumentation were 1.79 and 1.90 m, respectively, for pore pressure of 450 and 420 kPa, for total stress of 1440 and 1205 kPa. According to the calculations, the maximum ratio of Arching coefficient in Vanyar dam obtained from instrument readings and numerical analysis was 0.77 and 0.91, respectively, which are both less than one, as well as the maximum Ru from numerical analysis and instruments installed in the core Respectively 0.35 and 0.47. Which are less than the predicted value in the design stage of 0.5. Therefore there is no possibility of core curvature, which indicates that the dam is within safe range in terms of hydraulic failure.

In this excerpt from ICTN's "City Source," Irving Mayor Rick Stopfer shares memories of the implosion of Texas Stadium, and looks ahead at the future of the site.

The extent to which college-related changes in personality functioning persisted between college graduation and 10 years later was studied, and developmental patterns common to 18- and 32-year-old college-educated persons were identified. The relationship between various demographic characteristics linked either empirically or theoretically to personality development in the young adult years was also addressed. An Alumni Questionnaire (AQ) and the Omnibus Personality Inventory (OPI) were administered to a sample of 1970 graduates of Luther College. The 200 respondents had completed the OPI prior to the freshman year and in the senior year. The findings seemed to indicate that many of the changes in personality functioning associated with college tend to backslide 10 years after graduation, and that the developmental patterns of young adults differ appreciably. The results indicate that not all of the respondents evidenced increases of those dimensions on which development is expected to occur during college (e.g., aestheticism, integrative maturity). The degree to which college-related changes in personality functioning are maintained seem to be related to the post-college environment. Respondents who were working in the professions were less likely to backslide following graduation. The differences among respondents' patterns of personality functioning during and after college were not easily explained by biographical variables. The results support the premise that development occurs in various dimensions at differential rates over the life span. (SW)

This article is from Scoliosis , volume 9 . Abstract Background: The most important factor discriminating juvenile (JIS) from adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) is the risk of deformity progression. Brace treatment can change natural history, even when risk of progression is high. The aim of this study was to compare the end of growth results of JIS subjects, treated after 10 years of age, with final results of AIS. Methods: Design: prospective observational controlled cohort study nested in a prospective database. Setting: outpatient tertiary referral clinic specialized in conservative treatment of spinal deformities. Inclusion criteria: idiopathic scoliosis; European Risser 0–2; 25 degrees to 45 degrees Cobb; start treatment age: 10 years or more, never treated before. Exclusion criteria: secondary scoliosis, neurological etiology, prior treatment for scoliosis (brace or surgery). Groups: 27 patients met the inclusion criteria for the AJIS, (Juvenile Idiopathic Scoliosis treated in adolescence), demonstrated by an x-ray before 10 year of age, and treatment start after 10 years of age. AIS group included 45 adolescents with a diagnostic x-ray made after the threshold of age 10 years. Results at the end of growth were analysed; the threshold of 5 Cobb degree to define worsened, improved and stabilized curves was considered. Statistics: Mean and SD were used for descriptive statistics of clinical and radiographic changes. Relative Risk of failure (RR), Chi-square and T-test of all data was calculated to find differences among the two groups. 95% Confidence Interval (CI) , and of radiographic changes have been calculated. Results: We did not find any Cobb angle significant differences among groups at baseline and at the end of treatment. The only difference was in the number of patients progressed above 45 degrees, found in the JIS group. The RR of progression of AJIS was, 1.35 (IC95% 0.57-3.17) versus AIS, and it wasn't statistically significant in the AJIS group, in respect to AIS group (p = 0.5338). Conclusion: There are no significant differences in the final results of AIS and JIS, treated with total respect of the SRS and SOSORT criteria, in adolescence. Brace efficacy can neutralize the risk of progression.
