At the same time, his works are also assigned to the Art Informal movement and show influences of Abstract Expressionism. Pedro Meier is an art nomad - in search of the »Gesamtkunstwerk«. Both in art and in life he is a wanderer between cultures and times. For more than 40 years, Pedro Meier has been commuting as a multimedia artist and writer between his studios in Europe, especially in Berlin, and his jungle studio on the Gulf of Siam in Thailand. This geographical expanse reflects his artistic pendulum movement between Orient and Occident. Pedro Meier's art is characterized by a fascinating synthesis between Zen Buddhism and the occidental Enlightenment. An outstanding feature of Pedro Meier's paintings are their calligraphic components. The abstract forms are reminiscent of both haikus, traditional Japanese poems, and medieval magic spells. The use of hieroglyphs and archaic cave paintings creates a bridge between past and present. Pedro Meier combines these elements into a unique visual language that is both mystical and timeless. Through his travels and explorations he has developed a deep connection to the Songlines, the dream paths of the Australian Aborigines. These songlines and dream paths are spiritual paths that lead through the land and create a connection to the ancestors and to nature. They are associated with songs, stories and works of art and serve as signposts and reminders. The fascination of songlines and dream paths can be found in Pedro Meier's works. Pedro Meier is a painter of Lyrical Abstraction, Informal Painting and Abstract Expressionism. The characteristics of these art movements are clearly visible in his works. Lyrical abstraction is evident in his gestural brushstrokes, intense colors and use of personal emotion and intuition. He borrows spontaneity, abstract forms and experimental techniques from informal painting. And abstract expressionism characterizes his work by emphasizing individual expression and emotional intensity. In the context of art history, Pedro Meier can be compared to well-known artists. His works are influenced by painters such as Jackson Pollock, Mark Rothko and Willem de Kooning, the greats of abstract expressionism. At the same time, his paintings are reminiscent of the works of Jean Dubuffet, Georges Mathieu and Wols, the representatives of the Informel. Pedro Meier combines these influences and creates his very own artistic style. Pedro Meier is a pioneer of art nomadism. His travels between the studios in different countries and cultures open up new inspirations and possibilities for artistic creation. As an art nomad, he moves between worlds and allows himself to be enriched by various influences. This is reflected in his art, which is a unique fusion of different styles, techniques and forms of expression. Pedro Meier is an artist who explores the boundaries of art and strives for the »Gesamtkunstwerk«. His works invite the viewer to go on a journey between cultures and times. They remind us that art knows no barriers and that true creativity comes from the combination of different influences and ideas. Esses conteúdos são temáticos, congregam textos, locução, sequências musicais, ruídos, efeitos sonoros e silêncio, devidamente organizados consoante a intenção dos alunos. Este material é elaborado na disciplina de Oficina de Multimédia e pode ter qualidades mais experimentalistas e ensaísticas ou atributos mais convencionais. Serão tratados temas da História e Estética da Música, do Cinema, da Literatura, das Artes de Cena ou Plásticas bem como outros assuntos relevantes de outras áreas do conhecimento que os alunos decidam explorar. This material is prepared in the class of Multimedia and will have a more experimental and essayistic orientation or a more conventional approach. Themes cover History and Aesthetics of Music, Cinema, Literature, the Performing Arts, Painting, Sculpture, Architecture, as well as alternative issues relevant to other areas of knowledge that students decide to explore. In parallel the class must create advertisements referring to absurd products or services where the final editing must have a humorous, poetic or critical feature.

Sir Eugene Goossens (Camden Town, London, 26.V.1893 - Hillingdon, 13.VI.1962): English conductor and composer. His father and grandfather, also named Eugène Goossens, of Belgian origin, were also conductors. His brothers were Leon Goossens (1897-1988), famous oboist, and Adolphe Goossens (1896-1916), horn player, his sisters Marie (1894-1991) and Sidonie Goossens (1899-2004) famous harpists. Eugene Goossens was one of the pioneers who recorded symphonical music in the acoustic period (together with Sir Thomas Beecham, Albert Coates, Sir Edward Elgar, Hamilton Harty, Alick Maclean, Willem Mengelberg, Arturo Toscanini, Percy Pitt, (Sir) Landon Ronald and Felix Weingartner, to name a few). Some highlights of his conducting career: 1923-1931: Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra 1931-1946: Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra (successor of Fritz Reiner) 1947-1956: Sydney Symphony Orchestra + director NSW State Conservatoire 1955: knighted: Sir Eugene Goossens. 1956: Scandal for smuggling pornographic material and his relationship with Rosaleen Norton, a woman interested in the occult and erotica. He had to retire from his functions and returned to England in disgrace.  Petrouchka is a ballet composed by Igor Stravinsky (1882-1971) in 1910-1911 and revised in 1947. Vaslav Nijinsky (1890-1950), at the time star dancer of Les Ballets Russes , founded and directed by Sergei Diaghilev (1872-1929), danced the premiere of Petrouchka in Paris, Théâtre de Châtelet, on 13 June 1911. This is the first recording of Petrouchka . The Violin Concerto in D was composed by Igor Stravinsky (one of my favorite composers) in 1931. American composer and diplomat Blair Fairchild (1877-1933) had commissioned the concerto from Stravinsky for his protégé, Polish-Jewish violinist Samuel Dushkin . Dushkin worked closely with Stravinsky in the creation of the violin concerto.  The premiere was broadcast live by radio on October 23, 1931, from the Philharmonie in Berlin, with the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra, Samuel Dushkin as violinist and Igor Stravinsky as conductor. Dushkin also played the premiere in America in January 1932 conducted by Sergei Koussevitzky with the Boston Symphony Orchestra. (Stravinsky earned $7000 + 10% royalties from the composition, Dushkin earned $250 at the premiere + the exclusive right to play the violin concerto for a period of 2 years). Dushkin also made the first recording of this concerto in 1935, with Stravinsky conducting Les Concerts Lamoureux (i.e. this recording). Samuel Dushkin (Suwalki, 13.12.1891 - New York, 24.06.1976): Polish-Jewish violinist, composer and teacher. Trained at the Paris Conservatory, also had lessons with Leopold Auer and Fritz Kreisler.  1918: debut in Europe 1924: debut in America with the New York Symphony Orchestra conducted by Walter Damrosch 1924: Amsterdam: gave the premiere of the orchestral version of Tzigane (Ravel) with the Concertgebouw Orchestra conducted by Pierre Monteux He collaborated more with Stravinsky (Duo Concertante; Divertimento) and also performed with him regularly. Marc-Andre Hamelin and Leif Ove Andsnes play the 2 piano arrangement of Stravinsky's "Rite of Spring". The rite is one of my favorite pieces of all time, and while I prefer the solo piano arrangement done by Aaron Petit, the original Stravinsky 4 hand version is also fantastic. This piece was actually written on the piano, and so in a way it really sounds like it belongs there.

It cannot but seem a paradox to say that the Thirteenth was the greatest of centuries. To most people the idea will appear at once so preposterous that they may not even care to consider it. A certain number, of course, will have their curiosity piqued by the thought that anyone should evolve so curious a notion. Either of these attitudes of mind will yield at once to a more properly receptive mood if it is recalled that the Thirteenth is the century of the Gothic cathedrals, of the foundation of the university, of the signing of Magna Charta, and of the origin of representative government with something like constitutional guarantees throughout the west of Europe. The cathedrals represent a development in the arts that has probably never been equaled either before or since. The university was a definite creation of these generations that has lived and maintained its usefulness practically in the same form in which it was then cast for the seven centuries ever since. Utility, not originality, has been aimed at in the compilation of this work. The obstacles and difficulties its author had met with in his endeavors to learn something of the article he was commissioned to sell when he first entered the Tea trade, the almost total lack of knowledge displayed by the average dealer in the commodity, allied to the numerous inquiries for a work containing “all about tea,” first prompted the undertaking. The material was collated at intervals, in a fragmentary manner, covering a period of over twenty years, and arranged amid the many interruptions incident to an active business life, subjected to constant revisions, repeated prunings and innumerable corrections, due mainly to the varying statements and conflicting opinions of admitted authorities in every branch of the subject. Still, as careful and judicious an arrangement of the data has been given as possible, a faithful effort being made to omit nothing that may prove useful, instructive or profitable to the expert, the dealer or general reader. Aware that many facts have been omitted, and many errors committed in its preparation, he still trusts that the pains he has taken to avoid both have not been in vain, that the former may be few, and the latter of no great importance.
