Two south London fellows called  Alan Lancaster  (bass) and  Francis Rossi  (guitar - known as  Mike Rossi (4)  during the band's early years) founded the band in 1962. First name The Paladins soon changed to  The Spectres (2)  (another previously-documented early name, The Scorpions, is disputed). In 1966, the band changed their name to "The Traffic", shortly thereafter to  The Traffic Jam (2) . The lineup consisted of Lancaster, Rossi,  John Coghlan  (drums) and  Roy Lynes  (keyboard). A year later, the band changed name once again to "The Status Quo".  Rick Parfitt  (guitar) joined the band. Their first hit record, "Pictures of Matchstick Men", was released. This open access book, summarising the research conducted at this Jean Monnet Chair, seeks to identify the ethical spirit of European Union (EU) values. EU integration began at the economic level; human rights were only added at a later stage. Finally, the Lisbon Treaty turned the EU into a ‘Union of values’ by enshrining certain concepts in Art 2 TEU. This provision can be seen as a hub linked to various other provisions of EU primary and secondary law. The values contained therein have, amongst others, been applied to two areas (digitalisation and non-financial reporting, partly in sports), and further specified in others (health and partly in sports). This book analyses the evolution of values (ratione temporis) and the questions of who is entitled and who is obliged (ratione personae). Besides the external perspective (ratione limitis; e.g., Brexit), it focuses on the composition of the EU’s common values (ratione materiae). As Art 2 TEU can be viewed as a hub, it is essential to focus on various relations, not only between values, but also between values and other provisions of EU law, as well as other concepts. Based on this description of the status quo, the book subsequently addresses a possible future direction, arguing for an additional narrative (trust), an additional value (environmental protection), and a more communitarian Union. In closing, apart from the classical commitment of the EU and the Member States to uphold the values of the EU, the book discusses the level of individuals and values as virtues. Various figures and tables complement this overview of the status quo of the Union of values and outline of its future direction.

This article is from Iranian Red Crescent Medical Journal , volume 16 . Abstract Background:: Applying Prevention and Control of Infection (PCI) standards in hospitals reduces probable risks to patients, staff and visitors; it also increases efficiency, and ultimately improves productivity of hospitals. Objective:: The current study aimed to determine the status quo of international standards of PCI in hospitals located in the north of Iran. Materials and Methods:: This cross-sectional study was conducted in 23 hospitals. Data collection tool was a questionnaire with confirmed validity and reliability. . In this regard, 260 managers, section supervisors and infection control nurses participated in the study according to census basis. SPSS software version 16 was employed to analyze the data through descriptive and analytical statistics. Results:: Among the studied hospitals, 18 hospitals were public. Hospitals enjoyed 77.2% of leadership and programming, 80.8% of focus of programs, 67.4% of isolating methods, 88.2% of hand health and protection techniques, 78.8% of improving patient’s safety and quality, 90.3% of training personnel, and 78.7% of the average status quo of PCI standards. Conclusions:: This study revealed that PCI standards were significantly observed in the studied hospitals and that there were necessary conditions for full deployment of nosocomial infection surveillance.
