Implementing large software, as software analyzers which aim to be used in industrial settings, requires a well-engineered software architecture in order to ease its daily development and its maintenance process during its lifecycle. If the analyzer is not only a single tool, but an open extensible collaborative framework in which external developers may develop plug-ins collaborating with each other, such a well designed architecture even becomes more important. In this experience report, we explain difficulties of developing and maintaining open extensible collaborative analysis frameworks, through the example of Frama-C, a platform dedicated to the analysis of code written in C. We also present the new upcoming software architecture of Frama-C and how it aims to solve some of these issues.

The ATLAS High Level Trigger (HLT) consists of two selection steps: the second level trigger and the event filter. Both will be implemented in software, running on mostly commodity hardware. Both levels have a coherent approach to event selection, so a common core software framework has been designed to maximize this coherency, while allowing sufficient flexibility to meet the different interfaces and requirements of the two different levels. The approach is extended further to allow the software to run in an off-line simulation and reconstruction environment for the purposes of development. This paper describes the architecture and high level design of the software.

Real time embedded systems have particularly strict requirements on accuracy, safety and reliability. A central question in the design of such systems is how to support concurrent processing without adversely affecting the timing requirements of the system. Concurrent processing is essential because the only way to successfully meet some tight real time constraints is to use multiple processors. This thesis focuses on the distributed scheduling problem. It proposes a distributed scheduling algorithm to allocate and schedule a set of tasks onto a collection of processors linked by a network. It further proposes a distributed software architecture for CAPS (Computer Aided Prototyping System) generated prototypes based on GLADE (GNAT Library for Ada Distributed Execution) . The new distributed CAPS architecture is applied to several prototype examples. The results show that it is possible to build distributed real time embedded systems under the distributed scheduling model, where sets of tasks run independently on each processor, using GLADE.

DESCRIPTION OF SOFTWARE SYSTEM ARCHITECTURE OF YEROTH-ERP-3.0. COMPARISON BETWEEN THICK-CLIENT AND WEB-BROWSER-BASED SOFTWARE SYSTEM ARCHITECTURES!

This dissertation describes the development of an architectural modeling methodology that supports the Navy's requirement to evaluate potential changes to gun weapon systems in order to identify potential software safety risks. The modeling methodology includes a tool (Eagle6) that is based on the Monterey Phoenix (MP) modeling methodology, and has the capability to create and verify MP models, execute formal assertions via pre-defined macro commands, and a visualization tool that generates graphical representations of model scenarios. The Eagle6 toolset has two scenario generation modes, Exhaustive Search for model verification within scope, and Random trace generation for statistical estimates of nonfunctional properties, such as performance. The dissertation demonstrates how the Eagle6 tool may improve the SSSTRP evaluation process by including a methodology to use formal assertions to test for software states that are considered unsafe.

Modern TOF-PET scanner systems require high-speed computing resources for efficient data processing, monitoring and image reconstruction. In this article we present the data flow and software architecture for the novel TOF-PET scanner developed by the J-PET collaboration. We discuss the data acquisition system, reconstruction framework and image reconstruction software. Also, the concept of computing outside hospitals in the remote centers such as \'Swierk Computing Centre in Poland is presented.

A comprehensive list of books on Software Architecture. Software Architecture Books A comprehensive list of books on Software Architecture. People in the software industry have long argued about a definition of architecture. Ralph Johnson famously definedsoftware architecture as "the important stuff (whatever that is)." I, subjectively, followed his definition whiledeciding whether or not to include a specific book. Table of Contents What is this? (important) How did I make this? What should I read? This is NOT a recommendation list. When I made this, I intended for a comprehensive list excluding low-profile books—seeinclusion criteria below. There was a simple reason behind that: I'm not a subject-matter expert on all these topics. Infact, I not a subject-matter expert on even a single topic of these. More importantly, I don't know your experiencelevel nor your preferences. Some people prefer theoretical over practical books (I do). Others prefer overview overcomprehensive in-depth books. Some people even enjoy verbose over concise books or engaging over dry books or art-basedover engineering-based books. Or and or and or. How did I make this? I thoroughly reviewed all books tagged with software-architecture on Goodreads and applieda simple algorithmic rules—see the inclusion criteria below. I don't think the list is perfectly comprehensive. Yet, I'mplanning to update it regularly to make it as comprehensive as possible. What should I read? Don't be overwhelmed by the number of books on each subject. Practically speaking, you are supposed to read a few bookson the subjects of your interest. Deciding what to read is your business. Personally, I start by reading a couple ofreviews on Goodreads and jump into the book table of content. When in doubt, I proceed and read more reviews over theinternet from blogs and the like. Alternatively, you may go with the Goodreads community preferences and start from thetop of each list if you don't have the time to read reviews. Inclusion criteria The book must be relevant to Software Architecture; and The content is not obsolete. It must be technology agnostic or applicable to a wide range of technologies; and The book profile on Goodreads matches these rules: An average rating of 3.5 or above; and A total number of ratings equals 50 or above. At least 5 written reviews. A minimum length of 50 pages. Sorting criteria The books are sorted solely based on the number of written reviews. There are, however, other important factorsworth considering. For example, the average rating, the number of ratings, and the publishing date. Yet, I don't have anidea to put all these factors in a reasonable mathematical formula. If you haveany, I'd love to hear what you've got in mind. MIT Lincoln Laboratory has developed a Software Defined Radio based architecture for the Reagan Test Site Telemetry Modernization (RTM) program, which will enhance the current operations of the ground based telemetry systems and enable new modes of operation. There are three main objectives of the RTM program; increasing overall system performance, improving reliability and maintainability, and enabling future customer needs. RTM provides a fully integrated system that can be configured and remotely controlled from a single location. This centralized command and control provides a way to automate certain functions and frees up operator resources, especially for more complex mission scenarios. Software modules, running on general-purpose computers perform signal and data processing that have been traditionally performed in special purpose hardware based components. This provides the flexibility to scale and adapt to future needs, such as spectrum change, increased need for capacity, and changes to modulation, encoding, and compression.

Data parallel languages such as Vienna Fortran and HP F can be successfully applied to a wide range of numerical applications. However, many advanced scientific and engineering applications are of a multidisciplinary and heterogeneous nature and thus do not fit well into the data parallel paradigm. In this paper we present new Fortran 90 language extensions to fill this gap. Tasks can be spawned as asynchronous activities in a homogeneous or heterogeneous computing environment; they interact by sharing access to Shared Data Abstractions (SDAs). SDAs are an extension of Fortran 90 modules, representing a pool of common data, together with a set of methods for controlled access to these data and a mechanism for providing persistent storage. Our language supports the integration of data and task parallelism as well as nested task parallelism and thus can be used to express multidisciplinary applications in a natural and efficient way.

The Product Data Exchange Specification (PDES) is an emerging standard that is intended to address the problems of data exchange and representation for a variety of manufacturing enterprises. The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has a long-standing research program that addresses the problems of integration and development of automated manufacturing systems. This document presents a software architecture that incorporates PDES into the software applications that are part of NIST's work in Computer Integrated Manufacturing (CIM).
