The purposes of this scoping review are to identify the relationship between healthcare workers' gender and their experience of the second victim phenomenon, and to identify differences in the reactions from supervisors, colleagues and patients and their relatives to errors committed by men and women in healthcare settings.

This will help to understand the experiences and organisational support systems for second victims and their outcomes Inclusion criteria • Participants: registered nurses, physicians NOT other healthcare professionals • Concept: second victim • Context: – peri-operative environment, operating rooms, post-operating room NOT general acute care, mental health homes, community care homes, aged care homes Methods: The key information sources to be searched will include Medline, CINAHL, Scopus and the Nursing & Allied Health (ProQuest). The search will include quantitative, qualitative and mixed methods studies reported in English. Studies will be systematically screened by two researchers using Covidence. The data screening process will be reported according to the PRISMA-ScR flowchart. The extraction of data will be supported by a framework accepted by the research team. Analysis of quantitative data will comprise a summary of results and qualitative data will be analysed through content analysis. The results will be presented using the PAGER framework. Quality appraisal will be conducted to report on the quality of all included studies, but no study will be excluded based on the quality score. Results: TBC Conclusion: TBC

Sexual assault – a crime that typically occurs in private – tends to leave behind little evidence and no corroborating witnesses. This means that the conviction of the perpetrator often hinges on the credibility of the complainant (or victim). As a result, it is not uncommon for defense attorneys to scrutinize the complainant’s mental health, or even subpoena her mental health records, hoping to derive some pattern of untruthfulness or show that her past traumas and/or diagnoses impeded her ability to accurately perceive and recall the events she alleges. Studies not only indicate that jurors are strongly biased against sexual assault complainants, but that stigma persists surrounding mental health, meaning survivors of sexual assault must contend with a particularly potent combination of biases in court. This paper proposes conducting a mock jury experiment where participants are randomized to one of two groups, each consisting of 125 participants (n=250). Both groups will receive a summary of a sexual assault trial, including background information, a synopsis of the evidence, and a summary of the complainant’s testimony. Participants will then be asked to provide a verdict. All else being identical, the experiment group’s vignette will mention that the complainant spoke with her psychiatrist, following the assault, while the control group’s vignette will instead say that she spoke with her friend. This paper hypothesizes that the experiment group will return more not-guilty verdicts than the control group, owing to the nexus between prejudice towards mental health and sexual assault victims.

A 2006 Mercedes struck another vehicle just prior to losing control and leaving the roadway. The Mercedes rolled end over end and came to rest in the desert area between the Interstate and Yermo Road. The driver of the Mercedes, The driver age 83, a resident of La Palma California was pronounced dead at the scene. Abstract In June 2012, the German Medical Association (Bundesärztekammer) published the statistics of medical malpractice for 2011 (published at http://www.bundesaerztekammer.de). Still ENT-specific accusations of medical malpractice are by far the fewest in the field of hospitals and actually even in the outpatient context. Clearly most of the unforeseen incidents still occur in the disciplines of trauma surgery and orthopedics. In total, however, an increasing number of errors in treatment can be noticed on the multidisciplinary level: in 25.5% of the registered cases, an error in treatment was found to be the origin of damage to health justifying a claim for compensation of the patient. In the year before, it was only 24.7%. The reasons may be manifold, but the medical system itself certainly plays a major role in this context: the recent developments related to health policy lead to a continuous economisation of medical care. Rationing and limited remuneration more and more result in the fact that therapeutic decision are not exclusively made for the benefit of the patient but that they are oriented at economic or bureaucratic aspects. Thus, in the long term, practising medicine undergoes a change. According to the §§ 1, 3 of the professional code of conduct for doctors (Musterberufsordnung für Ärzte; MBO-Ä) medical practice as liberal profession is principally incompatible with the pursuit of profit, however, even doctors have to earn money which more and more makes him play the role of a businessman. Lack of personnel and staff savings lead to excessive workloads of physicians, caregivers, and nurses, which also favour errors. The quality and even the confidential relationship between doctor and patient, which is important for the treatment success, are necessarily affected by the cost pressure. The victims in this context are not only the patients but also the physicians find themselves in the continuous conflict between ethical requirements of their profession and the actual requirements of the realities in the healthcare field. But also the technical and scientific progress bear new risks beside the therapeutic successes, further especially bigger hospitals require high efforts regarding organisation favouring errors in cases of deficiencies. Even the increasing juridification of the medicine that is expected to achieve a provisional highlight with the planned law of patients’ rights leads to an important focus on the quality of medical care (see also [1]). The explicit legal regulation of patients’ rights, which have never been out of question up to now, confirms the impression of patients who have to be protected from their doctors. This development favours a natural mistrust in the quality of the treatment and the desire of legal verification in cases of treatment failures. A totally perfect and error-free treatment, however, will never occur. Already this fact leads to the obligation to do everything possible to reduce the risk to an absolute minimum. The risks that might arise from a relation of treatment are manifold. Not only may the patient undergo risks that arise in particular from lacking or insufficient briefing, complications, or medical malpractice. Also the doctor has to fear legal consequences if he does not stick clearly to the increasing requirements that jurisdiction and legislation impose – not least by the planned law of patients’ rights. In the following, the basic principles and particularities will be described that apply for the patients’ briefing. Further the different types of medical malpractice will be explained in relation to the resulting procedural consequences. Finally some current problematic fields will be described with regard to other possible liabilities or responsibilities of physicians in hospitals or doctor’s offices.

Brooklyn Park police announced they’ve arrested a 16-year-old boy in connection with a shooting on Halloween. He’s being held on probable cause for second-degree murder while charges are pending. Police say the victims knew the suspect and the crime was not random. Meanwhile, one of the victims in the shooting died in the hospital on Friday. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s office identified him as 16-year-old Chardid Farah. The other victim in the shooting, 16-year-old Diriye Muhumed, died at the scene. 06.15.2022 | SANTA ANA (CNS) – A second body has been found in the rubble of a mobile home fire in Santa Ana, authorities said Wednesday, adding that the fire was intentionally set. Crews responded to the fire at 10:14 p.m. Friday in the 5000 block of McFadden Avenue, and they knocked down the flames in about 30 minutes, Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Greg Bradshaw said earlier. During an initial search of the site, the body of a male victim was found, according to fire and police officials. According to Santa Ana police, an investigation into the fire determined that the blaze had been intentionally set. On Tuesday, investigators returned to the home to conduct a follow-up search of the site, and the body of a female victim was found under the debris, police said. He later died at the scene from his injuries, police said. Another victim in the incident was taken to Valley Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. "A fight broke out and evidence at the scene indicates several people began shooting at each other. This incident appears to be gang related."
