I recently acquired about 5 to 7 books and two supplemental texts from Simone Yotsuya (formerly Shio Sato) and their collaborator Yuko Morioka. Both authors are extremely private individuals and didn't answer any questions I had concerning their doujinshi activities prior to 1990, however, I was able to get some older printings of their books under the Pygmalion circle thanks to a friend doing the bank transfer / money order for me as well as them handling the shipping. They do not sell to foreigners without an intermediary nor do they use traditional proxy services. Simone Yotsuya, born Haruka Sato (佐藤晴子), was a pioneer in the mecha Aniparo scene from 1979 to 1984 proper. Post their fame and subsequent forays into other mediums as well as work with publishing companies, Haruka adopted the penname Simone Yotsuya and began publishing works with their collaborator Yuko Morioka, who's the primary novelist of their joint circle Pygmalion. Haruka published original content with the novelist Shikiko Yamaai under Yamaai's imprint Walkure (Valkyrie) from 1989 to about 1993 or so. Haruka stated to me in an email that their Gundam parody works will not be republished as many of their old manuscripts are either lost, were given away or are in storage for personal reasons. Haruka republished many of her old manuscripts and novels with brand new art, character names and influences by the 1990s and seemingly moved away from Gundam all together, though not in spirit. Bluest Blue in Blue (aka Nosai-No-Gi) was first published with Haruka's sub-imprint of Let's Play Around With Char known as Luna II or simply Luna. The novel originally circulated around Char x Garma's toxic relationship that takes place in an alternate timeline in which both Garma and Char are related / associated with the mob. Deviating from Gundam, Haruka recycled her works as noted. This particular preparatory newsletter includes segments from the novels and artwork. In der Strafkolonie ist eine Erzählung von Franz Kafka, die im Oktober 1914 entstand und 1919 veröffentlicht wurde. Einem Forschungsreisenden wird das Rechtssystem einer Strafkolonie vorgeführt. Es besteht darin, dass jeder Angeklagte unabhängig von seiner Schuld von einem Apparat in minutiösem Ablauf stundenlang gefoltert und dann getötet wird. Den Apparat beschreibt Kafka als überdimensionalen Parlograph in der Funktionsweise eines Phonographen mit vibrierender Metallplatte und Nadel. This story, about a man who wakes up transformed into a bug and the repercussions it has on his life and the people around him, has intrigued me for many years. The translation is by Ian Johnston, not the translator that is in Gutenberg; I like Johnston's more. What does it mean? [Spoiler possibly]In my mind it is not complicated at all and is most probably an autobiography of how Kafka himself had experienced his early life living with his parents. Kafka describes how he had experienced his parents’ financial and emotional exploitation's of him, to the point of detaching from them and thereby ceasing to be their son (the real metamorphosis). Gregor’s metamorphosis is that of Kafka’s being an obedient son, subserviently paying for his parents’ narcissistic needs with his own life, into being a disobedient one—as if he had become a ‘piece of vermin’. Gregor’s parents possessed a large sum of money in savings, which symbolizes the needlessness of Gregor’s exploitation. In other words, the parents did not love him for who he was, but for his loyal willingness to undergo this exploitation. Reduced to vermin, Gregor can (or will) no longer financially benefit his parents. It is the parents that caused Gregor’s/Kafka’s metamorphosis. The debt Gregor intended to repay his parents symbolizes the emotional debt many adult children continue to feel towards their elderly parents for the love and care they have provided. Sister Grete, at first siding with her brother against their unfriendliest father, eventually switches sides after her brother’s metamorphosis, conveniently seizing first place in the sibling hierarchy, a reference to Kafka’s relationship with one of his siblings. The reason why the book continues to enjoy popularity among large audiences of readers, in my opinion, is because they recognize themselves in Gregor Samsa, which makes it all the more astounding how many ‘expert’ interpretations attempt to distract students of Kafka away from the most likely one. I know that some of our absolute best LibriVox readers have already recorded this marvelous story but this but it has also been on my list of "yearn to record" things for a long time and for my personal and entirely selfish pleasure now is the time to do it before I get any older or another flood hits us.
