Throughout the Second World War, in France there were many women who were seen as collaborators. A number had their heads shaved in public for 'sleeping with the enemy,' but one woman who betrayed her nation and gave over information to the Germans was Violette Morris. Violette was an athlete who had excelled in many sports in the decades before World War 2, and she was also a skilled fighter and boxer. But she would spent the years before the war in relative struggle, until Adolf Hitler invited the medal winning athlete to become part of his circle. Violette Morris became a spy for the SD, and inside of France she would pass over military secrets to the Nazis. She would hand over key pieces of information about French defences, but her collaboration was well known and she became known as, 'The Hyena Of The Gestapo.' But the French Resistance in 1944 decided to put an end to her betrayal once and for all, and they carried out an execution which was brutal. Because of this, Hitler ordered his generals to tell the soldiers that any woman who was found in uniform on the battlefield fighting for the Soviets would be executed on sight. This led to many female soldiers being shot on sight and executed. Many of these women were tortured before their executions too. During the Second World War, there were a number of brutal and barbaric German Generals who committed many war crimes inside of the Eastern Front and Soviet lands. One of the most ruthless was Johann-Georg Richert who was known for even executing his own soldiers. He would not tolerate any desertion, and he would organise huge deportations in which thousands were forced out of their homes. Richert was responsible for the deaths of thousands of civilians, but at the end of World War 2 he was captured. Richert was then brought to the Minsk Trials and he was then sentenced to death for his crimes. Inside of Minsk a large gallows had been set up and alongside a number of other senior German Generals and officers, Richert was executed in front of a crowd of 100,000 people. Throughout the Second World War, there were a ruthless set of German SS executioners known as the Einsatzgruppe. These were responsible for the slaughter of millions across occupied lands, but there was a commander of the group who was later executed at the end of the war for his actions. Werner Braune was a virulent Nazi and he was in control of Einsatzgruppe 11b who carried out a massacre of over 14,000 people at one point. Werne Braune was responsible for the deaths of thousands of people, and during the Einsatzgruppe trial he was condemned and sentenced to death for his crimes. But he was executed a number of years later on the gallows inside of Landsberg Prison, but whilst standing on the trapdoor, the evil commander is standing there smiling. Inside of a Polish Prison alongside many other former guards of Auschwitz Concentration Camp, Franz Xaver Kraus was brought to his execution. He was led up to the noose, and he had been condemned for being a man responsible for the deaths of hundreds of thousands inside of the deadliest site of the Third Reich. Kraus was known for being a beast and a brute who made the lives of prisoners a misery and he was also known for being a murderer. Throughout History and the centuries, there have been many executions that have been carried out in different countries. But there have been many Dictators who were also executed after they fell from grace, and they were executed by their own people. In 1989 in Romania, the Christmas Revolution broke out and this resulted in the ousting of power of Nicolae and Elena Ceausescu. The Dictator and his wife had been in power for decades, but during the Revolution over 1000 died. After days of violent protests, the Ceausescu's were flown out of a building but they were then arrested. The Dictator and his wife were then placed on trial and they were then sentenced to death for many crimes including genocide. They were then taken to the side of a military barracks which became a make shift firing range, and the pair were then executed. Throughout the Second World War, the German Army dealt with desertion ruthlessly as they would usually execute those accused of going AWOL inside of the Wehrmacht. Many of the soldiers who fought for Hitler's army were from lands where he had invaded and they were not ardent Nazis and many were upset with the fact they had to fight for their enemy or face certain death. One such man executed for desertion and military offences was Kurt Fuchs, an Austrian who following the Anschluss was forced to serve inside of the Wehrmacht. He was a man who absconded from the front line many times and even was forced to serve in a prisoner battalion, but due to his persistent escaping he was ruthlessly executed by a firing squad. Throughout the Second World War, there were a huge number of evil SS guards who worked at concentration camps such as Auschwitz. But one of the most barbaric guards who was responsible for the executions of thousands of prisoners was Franz Hössler, who worked at many camps including Dachau, Bergen-Belsen and Auschwitz. He was in charge of the executions and the gas chambers at Auschwitz, and he would send thousands to their deaths. Franz Hössler would then be sent to Bergen-Belsen and he was arrested along with other notorious SS guards such as Josef Kramer and Irma Grese. Hössler was then sentenced to death at the Belsen Trials, and he was then executed by the British executioner Albert Pierrepoint. Throughout the Second World War, there were a number of evil doctors that worked inside of concentration camps. But one man who worked inside of Mauthausen was Dr Eduard Krebsbach who was known as Doctor Injection. He was a man who served in the SS and he was responsible for the executions of thousands of people inside of one of the toughest concentration camps of World War 2. Eduard Krebsbach selected many to go to their deaths inside of the gas chambers, and he would become notorious at the camp for his evil. After the end of the Second World War he was arrested, and he was then sentenced to death at the Mauthausen Trials. He was executed on the gallows at Landsberg Prison by the American forces who oversaw the prison following the end of the conflict. Friedrich Jeckeln was a man who oversaw the brutality inside the Soviet Union, and it's believed that he was responsible for the deaths of 100,000 people. Jeckeln was known as a brute, and he designed the most efficient way of performing the horrific actions. But Friedrich Jeckeln was at the end of World War 2 brought to trial and he was then sentenced to death for his actions. Throughout the Second World War there were many people who collaborated with the Germans inside of occupied lands. But one well known police inspector who worked with the Gestapo was Pierre Bonny. He was a celebrity and was well known, but he would work with the SS and the Nazis to hunt down members of the French Resistance. He would torture many of them inside of Gestapo prisons in Paris, and his work resulted in many executions. But as the Allies landed following D-Day, the Germans were pushed back and the French Resistance fought back. Following the Liberation of Paris, Pierre Bonny was brought to trial and was accused of war crimes and because of this he was sentenced to death. Mary Queen of Scots had been imprisoned by Elizabeth I of England for many years, and she saw her execution as a release from her troubles. Throughout the Second World War, there were a number of evil concentration camp guards who were executed for their crimes. One of the most sadistic was George Schallermair who began the war fighting on the front lines with the Wehrmacht and the German Army. But in 1944 he was sent to Mulhdorf, a sub-camp of Dachau, and whilst here he began known for being a terrible war criminal and a horrifically barbaric guard. Georg Schallermair was known for stealing gold teeth from the deceased, and for beating inmates so bad he would slaughter them. He despite serving in the camps for around a year became infamous, but he would at the end of the conflict be sentenced to death for his crimes. Schallermair was then left to rot on death row for many years before he was then executed in 1951 on the gallows of Landsberg Prison. Karl Gebhardt was the personal doctor of Heinrich Himmler, the Head of the SS and he was a man who specialised in sports medicine but during the Nazi Third Reich he would become a murderer and a sadist. Karl Gebhardt would inside of the concentration camps inflict a huge degree of suffering carrying out terrible experiments upon the prisoners of the camp. Throughout the Second World War there were many military officers and generals who would be sentenced to death by their enemies. Dmitry Karbyshev was a well respected Soviet General, with decades of experience but he would be captured by the German Army during Operation Barbarossa. The Germans realising his skill tried to get him to defect, but he would refuse to do this and would then be sent to many different concentration camp. Dmitry Karbyshev managed to survive Auschwitz, but he would then be sent to Mauthausen which was one of the most brutal and ruthless concentration camps. Within days of him arriving at the camp, Karbyshev was executed using freezing cold water in the winter, and the SS guards who carried out his execution did this with horrific savagery. Throughout the Second World War, there were many different horrific women who worked inside of the concentration camps, and many were executed at the end of the conflict. One woman who was known for her brutality was Elisabeth Volkenrath, who was just 26 when she went to the gallows inside of Hamelin Prison. She was known as 'the female commandant of Auschwitz,' and she would be very senior, and would take part in executions and also selections. Volkenrath would then be sent to Bergen-Belsen at the end of the Second World War, and she continued to work inside of the concentration camps until she was arrested at Belsen by the British. But Volkenrath would be condemned to death for her crimes, and it was British executioner Albert Pierrepoint who executed her. One of the most shocking events in British History was the Gunpowder Plot which aimed to blow King James I, Parliament and the Royal Family to kingdom come. One of the lead plotters was Guy Fawkes, and he was a skilled soldier but was tasked with igniting the gunpowder on the 5th November 1605. But he was captured and caught and the plot was foiled, and with this Fawkes was taken to the Tower of London to be tortured. He was subjected to the rack and was brutally stretched on this, but then he gave over information which led to the arrest of the others. Fawkes was sentenced to death and he was then executed outside the very building he planned to blow up! But he was hanged, drawn and quartered. However things did not go right with his execution... Inside of Majdanek Concentration Camp during the Second World War, there were many horrific SS guards who treated prisoners terribly. One of the worst guards was executed as the Second World War was still going on, and Paul Hoffman was known as a beast for his murderous actions. He had a disregard for the life of the prisoners and worked in many areas including the camp's crematoria. He was known for burning female prisoners alive, and also helping in the executions at the camp each day. But Hoffman would be captured as Majdanek was liberated by the Soviets and he was then placed on trial and was sentenced to death. He was executed on a gallows in front of a large crowd. One of the most horrific executions of the reign of King Henry VIII saw an elderly woman lose her head inside of the Tower of London. Margaret Pole the Countess of Salisbury was an elderly woman when Henry VIII ordered her to be executed for treason. She had been accused of being involved in the Pilgrimage of Grace rebellion, and her son was also a Cardinal who spoke out a great amount against Henry VIII. But the execution of Margaret Pole did not go well, and she was chased around the Tower of London by an axeman who took many swings of the axe to perform his job. During Adolf Hitler's time as the Fuhrer and Dictator of Nazi Germany, he would be subject to a large amount of assassination attempts to kill the powerful leader of Germany. However the most famous was the 20th July Plot which saw Claus von Stauffenberg take a bomb inside a suitcase into Hitler's Wolf's Lair Headquarters before the bomb exploded. Although the bomb failed to kill its intended target, it injured Hitler but it lead to something much bigger. After the bomb exploded, Stauffenberg left and headed to help stage a military coup. The military coup was quickly defeated, and Stauffenberg was arrested. He was a man who was respected inside the German Army and had risen through the ranks seeing much action in the Invasion of Poland, Operation Barbarossa and in North Africa. In Africa he would be injured being blinded after being shot at by an allied aircraft, but he quickly became angered by Hitler's policies. He had personally witnessed the Holocaust and the crimes against the Jews committed by the Nazis and for this decided to become involved in resistance against Hitler and to plan to kill him. Although the July 20th Plot failed, Stauffenberg was arrested shortly after the bomb exploded. In order to save his own skin, a General of higher rank would order Claus von Stauffenberg's court martial and execution. He was dragged outside of the building where the coup was taking place, and shot in quick and immediate fashion by a firing squad that had assembled. Throughout the Second World War, the fighting on the Eastern Front between the Soviet Red Army and the German Army was some of the most brutal and savage in History. Large scale executions and slaughter would take place, but Stalin would issue an order to his Red Army which condemned many of his own men to death. He would not tolerate desertion or cowardice, and issued the 'Not A Step Back' order which meant anyone who retreated would be executed. During the Battle of Stalingrad, some of the most ferocious fighting took place and the city was reduced to ruins. But during the battle 13,500 Red Army soldiers would be executed for cowardice, desertion or defeatism. This was a huge amount considering this was just one single battle of World War 2. During the First World War, there was an execution which caused shockwaves across Europe as it shocked many different nations. Edith Cavell was a nurse who was working in the Belgian city of Brussels. She was a very popular figure in nursing, and she worked to train other nurses to become better however during World War 1 she was also working against the Germans. She was working in German occupied territory, and was allowed to continue nursing, however she turned against the Germans and helped her British and allied soldiers. Edith Cavell operated as part of an underground network who helped to smuggle over 200 injured soldiers and civilians out of Belgium and German occupation. They then travelled to the Netherlands before arriving back in Britain. Cavell did this for over a year until she was betrayed and then arrested. Because she was seen as working in German lands, she was accused and sentenced to death for treason, but her execution created great shock and anger across Britain and the United States. Edith Cavell was ruthlessly and quickly shot by a firing squad, but the effects of her execution were profound. In the weeks after, British propaganda portrayed her as a martyr and an angelic figure killed brutally by the enemy. Joseph Stalin was known for his brutal purges which resulted in the executions of millions, with many more being sent to concentration camps and gulags. But one of the men who was responsible for the brutality was Lavrentiy Beria, the Head of the NKVD. He was a man who was considered a murderer, and a sadist and Beria was a ruthless ally of Stalin. He would do anything Stalin wanted, including during the Second World War purging the Red Army of people who dissented against the Dictator. After Stalin's death, many people believed that Beria would become the next Dictator and leader of the Soviet Union. However he was ultimately ousted from power by Nikita Kruschev, who brought Beria's downfall. Beria was arrested and was then quickly sentenced to death and was accused of being a traitor and a spy for the British. He was then dragged from the courtroom kicking and screaming, and he was quickly and swiftly executed by an executioner. Throughout the Second World War, there were many evil and barbaric guards and doctors who caused a huge amount of slaughter. One of them was Karl Brandt who was actually Hitler's own escort doctor. Wherever Hitler went, Brandt accompanied him and he would administer the Dictator's care but also they were very close friends. But Karl Brandt was in charge of the Aktion T4 programme, a series of murderous decrees that led to around 300,000 innocent people being killed. Brandt was the man who organised this, and he also performed many sick experiments. But at the end of the Second World War, Adolf Hitler actually ordered his Doctor to be executed for treason as Brandt tried to give himself up to the Americans. The French Revolution was a brutal and turbulent time, and following the execution of King Louis XVI a period known as 'The Reign Of Terror' emerged. During this around 17,000 people were condemned on the guillotine after being suspected of being in support of the monarchy, and the man behind The Terror was Maximilien Robespierre. Robespierre was a prominent politician, but as he began to accumulate more power, he became very unpopular. Throughout the Second World War, there were many people who betrayed their nations and were later executed for treason. One of the most infamous traitors was William Joyce, who was known as Lord Haw Haw. Joyce broadcasted propaganda for the Nazis, and his show was aimed to demoralise the British. In front of a huge crowd of thousands, the female guards of Stutthof Concentration Camp following World War 2 were brought out for their executions. A huge gallows had been created on a large hill in Gdansk, to execute those men and women who worked inside of the camp. These were considered some of the most evil war criminals, but one of the women who was taken to the gallows was Wanda Klaff, who had worked in the camp for roughly a year. Wanda Klaff would admit at her trial to hitting and striking prisoners on a daily basis, and she was known for being a brute. But she would at the end of World War 2 be brought to trial for her crimes, and she saw the trial as a farce and did not take it serious. But she was condemned to death, and would be executed alongside other female guards such as Gerda Steinhoff and Jenny-Wanda Barkmann. As the Second World War came to a conclusion in Europe, Berlin was falling to the Red Army. The Battle of Berlin had reduced the city to rubble, but inside the Fuhrerbunker was Adolf Hitler and the remaining elements of his inner circle. Hitler would decide to see out the war and die within his bunker in Berlin, and he was surrounded by a number of his staff still. One person who remained at the bunker for a while was Hitler's representative of the SS, Hermann Fegelein. Fegelein through the SS had risen through the ranks and was an ardent Nazi. He was also a war criminal who during World War 2 and Operation Barbarossa would slaughter and execute thousands whilst he commanded a cavalry regiment. These executions would devastate towns, and after injury Heinrich Himmler appointed Fegelein as Hitler's personal SS liaison officer. Himmler was close with him, and Fegelein developed quickly a reputation within Hitler's inner circle. At the Berghof he was often surrounded by women who deemed him to be very attractive. Eva Braun, (Hitler's wife) would manufacture a marriage between Fegelein and her sister Gretl, and with this Fegelein would become incredibly closely linked to Hitler. He was in a sense his brother in law. However during the final days of the Battle of Berlin, Fegelein would try to escape the Fuhrerbunker and flee to a different country. However Hitler would realise and would order his arrest and capture. He was quickly found and Fegelein was sentenced to death and was dragged out to the Reich Chancellery Garden above the bunker. One of the most wanted men of the 21st century was the Dictator of Iraq Saddam Hussein. Saddam was known as being a brute of a ruler who was responsible for the executions and slaughter of 250,000 people inside of his land. But Saddam would be designated as 'High Value Target Number 1,' with the Invasion of Iraq. He was captured in December 2003 and was captured by US Special Forces, who wrestled him out of a spider hole. Saddam was then brought to trial for his crimes, and he did not respect the courtroom and believed that it was not legally standing. Because of this Saddam was rude and abrasive, but he was then sentenced to death. Throughout the Second World War, there were many different war criminals who became infamous for their murderous actions. Kurt Daluege was the Head of the Order Police and he would throughout the war also oversee the region of Czechoslovakia with brutality. He ordered horrific war crimes and massacre following the death of Reinhard Heydrich, and was responsible for the slaughter of thousands. Throughout the Second World War, there was a prison occupied by the Japanese which was brutal and barbaric. Changi Prison became a site of torture and execution and the inmates of the prison were subjected to horrific treatment. But there was a horrific regime imposed by the Japanese military police, the Kempeitai, and this was known as the Double Tenth Incident. They suspected that people inside the prison were responsible for sabotage in Singapore, and for this they tortured many of the inmates. Dozens were tortured in different ways, from being shocked with electricity to being water boarded and because of this treatment 15 prisoners died. But at the end of the war, the authorities then punished a number of former Kempeitai guards, and 8 were executed inside of Changi Prison on the gallows inside of the courtyard there. One of the most barbaric and horrific war criminals of the Second World War was Amon Göth, the Commandant of Krakow-Plaszow Concentration Camp. Göth was known for his evil, and he would execute prisoners with his own rifle and he would run a camp which became infamous for it's brutality and horror. He was the Commandant of the Krakow-Plaszow Concentration Camp, and would oversee the slaughter of thousands. But at the end of the Second World War, Amon Göth a man who was deemed too sadistic by the SS was arrested and he was brought to trial in Poland. One of the most shocking and brutal executions in History was when the King of England and Scotland Charles I made his way to the executioner's scaffold in London. Charles I had been responsible for the English Civil War, the deadliest conflict ever fought on English soil and he was a terrible King. He believed he was above the law and would regularly argue with Parliament, but following his loss in the civil war, Charles I would be condemned for treason. Charles I on the 30th January 1649 was led onto the execution scaffold and he was confronted by an axeman and a very low block. After making a speech to the crowd, the King would make his final preparations before he gave the signal for the executioner to swing his axe. In France following the French Revolution, there was a time of instability but one man who seized power was Napoleon. He was a skilled commander and had a number of brilliant allies who knew their way around a battlefield. One of these was Michel Ney, who was a fantastic cavalry commander and he had fought for many battles for the French. He was referred to as the last Frenchman on Russian soil, but he would meet a brutal end at the wrong end of the firing squad. Michel Ney was a man who despite being skilled on the battlefield was seen as a man who betrayed France. Following Napoleon's second exile, Ney was arrested and was placed on trial for treason. One of the most notorious yet unknown members of Hitler's Nazi government was his Minister of Justice Otto Georg Thierack. Thierack was a former lawyer and he was known for streamlining the execution system and also the way in which someone would be condemned for their crimes against the Nazi State. He made a number of brutal changes such as introducing more hooks to execute people on inside of Plotzensee Prison. During his time as the Minister of Justice, Thierack's department were responsible for the executions of thousands with many being executed on the guillotine. One of the most ruthless and brutal actions of the early Hitler government was a purge known as the 'Night of the Long Knives.' At the time, the Brownshirts or SA were feared as they were rather powerful and influential and because of this Hitler ordered a purge that resulted in hundreds of deaths. But he also went after many rival politicians and one victim was Ferdinand Von Bredow. Von Bredow was a loyal follower of one of Hitler's rivals and he was a German general. But because of his outspoken attempts to get his friends into power and Hitler's government, Von Bredow became an enemy of Hitler and during the 'Night of the Long Knives,' he would be executed and shot in his own home. One of the most important men of the Second World War, the Italian Dictator who allied himself closely with Adolf Hitler and Nazi Germany. Benito Mussolini would fall from grace during the conflict, as the Allies invaded Sicily and the Italian war effort faltered. He was ousted from power by the Fascist Grand Council, and then was imprisoned before he was broken out of prison. He would finally be captured, and would then be sentenced to death by the new Italian government. Benito Mussolini's execution was carried out hurriedly and he would be taken out to Dongo, near to Lake Como and he was then executed by gunshot next to the wall of the Villa Belamonte. This execution saw his mistress slaughtered also, and then following this Mussolini's remains were taken to Milan where they were then displayed in front of a huge crowd. Uday Hussein has been considered in recent years as one of the most evil parts of a dictatorship that saw huge suffering. He was the eldest son of Saddam Hussein, the Dictator of Iraq and Uday within that was considered even more sadistic and horrific than his father. He was a man obsessed with torture and he committed crimes wherever he went, and he even upset his Father with the amount of brutality he showed. Throughout the Second World War, the American Army executed a number of German spies whilst the fighting still raged on around them. Spies were considered one of the most dangerous threats for armies, and one of those was Stephan Kortas who was a Polish man who had been conscripted into the German Army. Kortas was caught alongside a teenage spy named Josef Wende, and for this the pair were then sent to trial as they were found to have been reporting on Allied positions. The spies were not in German uniform either, and because of this they were sentenced to death. Stephan Kortas was 25 years old when he was brought out of his prison to a firing range near to Toul in France. He was then tied to a stake and an American firing squad stood opposite him. He was given a blindfold before the order to shoot was given, and Kortas was instantly executed. Throughout the Second World War, there were many high ranking members of the SS who were complicit in war crimes and crimes against humanity. One of the lesser known members of the SS was Walter Schmitt a man who was a close friend of Heinrich Himmler the Head of the SS, and he was also the Head of the SS Personnel Office. He was a man who was very senior and was a powerful administrator in the shadows during World War 2. But his actions resulted in the slaughter of thousands. Schmitt was also an inspector inside of the concentration camps and he made sure that sites such as Auschwitz, Mauthausen and others were ruthlessly efficient in their killing process. But at the end of the war he was arrested and was then sentenced to death and was executed by pole hanging method inside of Czechoslovakia. Throughout the Second World War, there were many high profile executions which were carried out. German Generals were condemned and were executed inside of Soviet towns and cities, but one Stalin that the Germans and Hitler would capture was Stalin's son, Yakov Dzhugashvili. Stalin hated the fact his son had been imprisoned by the Germans, and the Nazis tried to use his capture as a propaganda boost. But Yakov Dzhugashvili would never make it out of Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp. He was a man who would fight other prisoners inside of the camp, and he would become frustrated as his father practically sentenced him to death. Stalin turned down a number of prisoner swaps to punish Yakov Dzhugashvili, but by doing this Stalin was practically signing his own sons death warrant. Following the Second World War, there were a number of German Generals who were executed for their involvements in war crimes. One of those was Anton Dostler, who was found guilty of carrying out orders that resulted in the executions of 15 American soldiers. These US Army soldiers had been conducting a Commando Raid, but when they were captured they were in correct American uniform. This meant they should have been Prisoners of War. But Dostler would order the executions of the American soldiers, and these were then shot by a firing squad. But Dostler's signature was on this order, and this was found at the end of the war, and for this he was sentenced to death. Anton Dostler was executed by an American army firing squad and he was tied to a stake before the order was given to shoot. During the Second World War, there were many people who spied on their enemies. But if they were caught they often faced the most serious punishment of execution. The final execution to occur inside of the Tower of London took place in World War 2, as a German Spy Josef Jakobs was taken into a firing range for his death. He had been caught after he broke his ankle parachuting into England, but Jakobs was ruthlessly executed by a firing squad inside the Tower's firing range. One of the most evil Nazi's in government was Karl Hermann Frank, who during the Second World War cause chaos in Czechoslovakia. He was a brutal man who would enforce the evil policies and would deport and execute thousands of people alongside Reinhard Heydrich. He was ardent in his belief in Nazi politics and he would order brutal actions against Partisans and the resistance inside of Czech lands. But at the end of World War 2 he was sentenced to death following his arrest. In a courtyard of Pankrac Prison he was brought to a gallows and a pole where he was executed. There were hundreds of people who were there to witness his execution including the widows of many men who were massacred by Frank's orders. Throughout the Second World War, one of the most brutal concentration camps was Stutthof. It was a site where there was a huge amount of execution and torture, and the man who was the commandant of Stutthof was Max Pauly. Pauly was an ardent Nazi and a member of the SS, and he would during the Second World War work as the commandant of another camp also named Neuengamme. He was a man who was liked by Heinrich Himmler, but at the end of the Second World War Pauly went on the run. Max Pauly was arrested and he was then placed on trial, however he was never actually tried for the crimes he committed at Stutthof. But regardless of this, he was then sentenced to death and he was taken to Hamelin Prison where he was then executed by the British executioner Albert Pierrepoint on the gallows. One of the most shocking traitors during the Second World War was William Joyce, Lord Haw Haw. He was a British fascist who defected to the Nazis and Germany, and with this he worked with Joseph Goebbels in creating radio broadcasts. He would try to demoralise the British population but his broadcast Germany Calling would ultimately be laughed at by the British. But at the end of the conflict, the British would capture Lord Haw Haw. He was then brought to trial as he was convicted of treason. There was debate around this as it was claimed he was not a British subject, however William Joyce was sentenced to death. Inside of Wandsworth Prison, he would be executed on the gallows by Albert Pierrepoint and his execution was the last in Britain for treason. The Battle of Stalingrad was one of the most brutal battles in History, and it is seen as a major turning point of the Second World War. But there was a German concentration camp established near the city, where thousands of prisoners following fighting at Stalingrad were imprisoned. The conditions of Dulag-205 were horrific, and executions and torture were carried out on a daily basis and the prisoners were kept in shocking states with hardly any food and water. But following the German surrender of Stalingrad, a number of German guards who worked inside of the Stalingrad concentration camp were sentenced to death. These 6 men were notorious for their actions at the camp, and these German guards would then be executed by the Soviets for their actions. One war criminal who would become a victim of the infamous American executioner John C Woods was Franz Xaver Strasse. He was a local leader inside of the Nazi Party and would 6 months before World War 2 came to an end execute 5 American Airmen who had crash landed in modern-day Czech Republic. Strasse along with two other men seized custody of these prisoners of war, and loaded them on the back of a truck. But then the American Airmen were ordered out and they were then shot by Strasse and another man, and Strasse was said to have personally shot two of the soldiers. For this, he was brought to trial and he was then sentenced to death and inside of Landsberg Prison, Strasse would be taken to the gallows where John C Woods was waiting for him.
