The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' construction program needs to reduce costs and improve quality. Productivity is decreasing in the U.S. construction industry, which is the opposite of the manufacturing segment, where productivity is improving. One reason for this is the use of advanced computer and machine technologies. The introduction of advanced construction technologies is particularly evident in Japan. This report presents information gathered during a study of Japanese construction industry. Much of the information was gained through interviews with company representatives. Particular focus was placed on identifying the methodology and organization that the Japanese use in their research and development for automated construction systems, including development of robotics. The information gathered shows that the Japanese are considerably ahead of other countries in their applied research towards construction automation. The organization and methodology that each Japanese company used toward this effort seem very similar. The differences between Japanese companies and their U.S. counterparts as they affect the introduction of new construction technologies are discussed. (kr)

Robotics is the branch of technology that deals with the design, construction, operation and application of robots [1] and computer systems for their control, sensory feedback, and information processing. These technologies deal with automated machines that can take the place of humans, in hazardous or manufacturing processes, or simply just resemble humans. Many of today's robots are inspired by nature contributing to the field of bio-inspired robotics.

I created this constructor kit to let children to learn coding of Arduino, to prepare the engineers of tomorrow. They can learn IR distance sensing, LED blinking (to blink the car lights is much more interesting, than one LED), servo control, GPS signal acquiring and processing, LCD screen etc. This is a mini version of my "Neurobot 1" (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1378603) with minimum parts, for easier assembly. It is a robot, which can run in autonomous mode or to be RC controlled. It runs Arduino Uno as a brain and Sharp IR sensor (10-90 cm) as his eyes. This is a minimalistic 3D printable vex license plate holder. With this holder, teams do not need to worry about constantly screwing and unscrewing plates between matches. Instead, they can simply insert the plate at the top of the holder.

In the summer of 2008, the Commandant of the Marine Corps (CMC) released a message to all Marines and Sailors detailing plans to revitalize U.S. naval amphibious competency. Current responsibilities in Iraq and Afghanistan have significantly reduced available training time causing overall amphibious readiness to suffer. In response, this thesis evaluates 3D visualization techniques and other virtual environment technologies available to support these mission-critical training goals. The focus of this research is to modernize the Expeditionary Warfare Demonstrator (EWD) located aboard Naval Amphibious Base (NAB) Little Creek, Virginia. The EWD has been used to demonstrate doctrine, tactics, and procedures for all phases of amphibious operations to large groups of Navy, Marine Corps, Joint, Coalition and civilian personnel for the last 55 years. However, it no longer reflects current doctrine and is therefore losing credibility and effectiveness. In its current configuration, the EWD is limited to a single training scenario since the display’s ship models rely on a static pulley system to show movement and the terrain display ashore is fixed. To address these shortfalls, this thesis first recommends the usage of the wireless communication capability within Sun’s Small Programmable Object Technology (SunSPOT) to create robotic vehicles to replace the current ship models. This enables large-group visualization and situational awareness of the numerous coordinated surface maneuvers needed to support Marines as they move from ship to shore. The second recommendation is to improve visualization ashore through the creation of Extensible 3D Graphics (X3D) scenes depicting high-fidelity 3D models and enhanced 3D terrain displays for any location. This thesis shows how to create these scenes and project them from overhead in order to modernize the gymnasium-sized EWD into an amphibious wargaming table suitable for both amphibious staff training and operational planning. Complimentary use of BASE-IT projection tables and digital 3D holography can further provide smallgroup, close-up views of key battlespace locations. It is now possible to upgrade an aging training tool by implementing the technologies recommended in this thesis to support the critical training and tactical needs of the integrated Navy and Marine Corps amphibious fighting force.

Our 6th grade students integrate Hummingbird robotics components into large creature projects that they design and build as part of the Legends of the Trash Creatures project (http://bit.ly/LTCproject). In order to assist the students in mounting these components safely and securely, I have designed some accessories to go along with different parts. This is the first in that series, for the distance sensor. I plan to post additional ones in the coming weeks.

This is a spacer that allows the SRX Magnetic encoder (am-3445) to be properly spaced above the Toughbox Mini (am-2236) or similar. The magnetic encoder is manufactured by CTR Electroncis and also sold by Andymark.com and is used in robotic building such as for FRC First Robotics competitions. As of late 2017 / early 2018, the Toughbox gearbox included shaft now has a magnet in the end, the benefit is that you don't have to machine a magnet into the end, but the drawback is that the old way of mounting the magnetic encoder now requires an additional spacer such as SRX Magnetic Encoder Mounting Hardware Kit (am-3565), but that kit is simply a grommet. This 3d printable part is a spacer that should be of proper (approximate) height to go green with the LED. Height of this part when printed in PLA should be 8.8mm. You can scale in Z if you need more / less height, or you can sand some material off, or perhaps shim with milk jug material. We used 12mm long 3-48 type screws. You can try 1/2" screws or cut a custom length screw. Note you only want about 3 mm of thread to enter the Toughbox Mini's black plastic, as below that plastic is a bearing, try not to go into area of bearing. Other thoughts are that if you did print this with Flexible material, then you could adust height by screw tension (again dont enter area of bearing by going too deep into Toughbox). And notes about proximity of magnet to encoder. red and orange led if dist from magnet to detent of underside of encoder housing is 2.95mm or greater. green led if distance 0.75mm to 1.5mm

This is a holder for the VEX robotics license plates. Since you don't know if you will be red team or blue team, you can print 2 of these holders and put both the red and blue plates in this holder and just pull them out and change them as needed.
