This bachelor’s thesis explores the topic “Trauma and Retraumatization in Clinical Settings - Ethical Challenges in Psychotherapeutic Care.” The aim of the study is to identify and analyze central ethical tensions that arise when working with trauma-affected individuals, particularly within psychiatric and psychotherapeutic institutions. The focus lies on how therapeutic methods, institutional frameworks, and communicative practices can influence the risk of retraumatization and how ethical standards should guide the design of trauma-informed care. The thesis is based on a systematic literature review and uses the principles-based ethics model by Beauchamp and Childress (2001) as a framework for ethical analysis. The goal is to synthesize current scientific literature to highlight which aspects of psychotherapeutic practice pose significant ethical challenges and how they can be addressed through professional ethical reflection and practice. The expected outcome is to generate practice-relevant insights into the importance of relational dynamics, patient participation, communication culture, and institutional structures. In addition, the suitability of the ethical matrix as an analytical tool for ethical dilemmas in clinical contexts will be assessed. The findings aim to strengthen the integration of ethical reasoning into trauma-informed practices and to provide impulses for the ethical development of psychotherapeutic care models.
