To guarantee equal opportunities and treatment in employment for individuals with disabilities, Congress enacted Title I of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) in 1992. This law states, "No covered entity shall discriminate against a qualified individual on the basis of disability in regard to job application procedures, the hiring, advancement, or discharge of employees, employee compensation, job training, and other terms, conditions, and privileges of employment" (Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990). However, disability advocates expressed concern that Americans with disabilities appeared to be less protected in the workplace than was expected under Title I of the ADA. This raised concerns in Congress that the original intent of the ADA was not being upheld. To restore the intended purposes and protections of the ADA, Congress proposed the ADA Amendments Act of 2008 (ADAAA) which was designed to have less emphasis on the evaluation of whether an individual was qualified for coverage and more emphasis on whether or not an employer had unlawfully discriminated against that individual (Vierling, 2009). The purpose of this study was to identify where to focus resources regarding specific aspects of employment based on perceived discrimination and outcome resolutions from individuals with visual impairments. The following research questions guided this study: (1) Are there differences between discrimination charges filed with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) before and after the enactment of the ADAAA regarding a visual impairment? and (2) Are there differences between outcome resolutions before and after the enactment of the ADAAA regarding a visual impairment?

The rotational lines of carbon monoxide and the fine structure lines of CII and of the most abundant metals, emitted during the epoch of enhanced star formation in the universe, are redshifted in the frequency channels where the present-day and future CMB experiments are sensitive. We estimate the contribution to the CMB angular power spectrum by the emission in such lines in merging star-forming galaxies. We used the Lacey-Cole approach to characterize the distribution of the merging halos, together with a parametrization for the star formation rate in each of them. Using observational data from a sample of local, low-redshift, and high-redshift objects, we calibrated the luminosity in each line as a function of the star formation rate. We show that the correlation term arising from CO line emission is a significant source of foreground for CMB in a broad range of frequencies (in particular in the 20-60 GHz band) and for 1000

Call a monomial ideal M "generic" if no variable appears with the same nonzero exponent in two distinct monomial generators. Using a convex polytope first studied by Scarf, we obtain a minimal free resolution of M. Any monomial ideal M can be made generic by deformation of its generating exponents. Thus, the above construction yields a (usually nonminimal) resolution of M for arbitrary monomial ideals, bounding the Betti numbers of M in terms of the Upper Bound Theorem for Convex Polytopes. We show that our resolutions are DG-algebras, and consider realizability questions and irreducible decompositions.

We consider the S-submodule D(m)(A) of the nth Weyl algebra of homogeneous differential operators of order m preserving the defining ideal of A. We prove that if n \geq 3, r > n,m > r - n + 1, then D(m)(A) is free (Holm's conjecture). Combining this with some results by Holm, we see that D(m)(A) is free unless n \geq 3, r > n,m < r - n + 1. In the remaining case, we construct a minimal free resolution of D(m)(A) by generalizing Yuzvinsky's construction for m = 1. In addition, we construct a minimal free resolution of the transpose of the m-jet module, which generalizes a result by Rose and Terao for m = 1.

We present explicit constructions of complete Ricci-flat Kahler metrics that are asymptotic to cones over non-regular Sasaki-Einstein manifolds. The metrics are constructed from a complete Kahler-Einstein manifold (V,g_V) of positive Ricci curvature and admit a Hamiltonian two-form of order two. We obtain Ricci-flat Kahler metrics on the total spaces of (i) holomorphic C^2/Z_p orbifold fibrations over V, (ii) holomorphic orbifold fibrations over weighted projective spaces WCP^1, with generic fibres being the canonical complex cone over V, and (iii) the canonical orbifold line bundle over a family of Fano orbifolds. As special cases, we also obtain smooth complete Ricci-flat Kahler metrics on the total spaces of (a) rank two holomorphic vector bundles over V, and (b) the canonical line bundle over a family of geometrically ruled Fano manifolds with base V. When V=CP^1 our results give Ricci-flat Kahler orbifold metrics on various toric partial resolutions of the cone over the Sasaki-Einstein manifolds Y^{p,q}.

The British historian, George W. Cox writes that the "whole duration of the Athenian empire extends over little more than two generations." This confederation of Greek city states with Athens at its head was an attempt to present a unified front to the Persian Empire. But ultimately, the strife between democratic and oligarchic factions within each polis, combined with the tangle of alliances between the various city states, led to the ruinous and protracted Peloponnesian War. In this short work, Cox describes the battles on land and sea, and such personalities as the Athenian general, Nikias, his Spartan counterpart, Agis, and, above all, unprincipled, charismatic Alcibiades.
