3A Group Of Invariance Transformations For Nonrelativistic Quantum Mechanics

By

This paper defines, on the Galilean space-time, the group of asymptotically Euclidean transformations (AET), which are equivalent to Euclidean transformations at space-time infinity, and proposes a formulation of nonrelativistic quantum mechanics which is invariant under such transformations. This formulation is based on the asymptotic quantum measure, which is shown to be invariant under AET's. This invariance exposes an important connection between AET's and Feynman path integrals, and reveals the nonmetric character of the asymptotic quantum measure. The latter feature becomes even clearer when the theory is formulated in terms of the coordinate-free formalism of asymptotically Euclidean manifold, which do not have a metric structure. This mathematical formalism suggests the following physical interpretation: (i) Particles evolution is represented by trajectories on an asymptotically Euclidean manifold; (ii) The metric and the law of motion are not defined a priori as fundamental entities, but they are properties of a particular class of reference frames; (iii) The universe is considered as a probability space in which the asymptotic quantum measure plays the role of a probability measure. Points (ii) and (iii) are used to build the asymptotic measurement theory, which is shown to be consistent with traditional quantum measurement theory. The most remarkable feature of this measurement theory is the possibility of having a nonchaotic distribution of the initial conditions (NCDIC), an extremely counterintuitive but not paradoxical phenomenon which allows to interpret typical quantum phenomena, such as particle diffraction and tunnel effect, while still providing a description of their motion in terms of classical trajectories.

5Theory Of Hybrid Systems. II. The Symmetrized Product And Redefined Lie Bracket Of Quantum Mechanics

By

The symmetrized product for quantum mechanical observables is defined. It is seen as consisting of the ordinary multiplication and the application of the superoperator that orders the operators of coordinate and momentum. This superoperator is defined in a way that allows obstruction free quantization when the observables are considered from the point of view of the algebra. Then, the operatorial version of the Poisson bracket is defined. It is shown that it has all properties of the Lie bracket and that it can substitute the commutator in the von Neumann equation.

6Nonrelativistic Quantum Mechanics With Spin In The Framework Of A Classical Subquantum Kinetics

By

Recently it has been shown that the spinnless one particle quantum mechanics can be obtained in the framework of entirely classical subquantum kinetics. In the present paper we argue that, within the same scheme and without any extra assumption, it is possible to obtain both the non relativistic quantum mechanics with spin, in the presence of an arbitrary external electromagnetic field, as well as the nonlinear quantum mechanics. 7A New Approximation Scheme In Quantum Mechanics

By

An approximation method which combines the perturbation theory with the variational calculation is constructed for quantum mechanical problems. Using the anharmonic oscillator and the He atom as examples, we show that the present method provides an efficient scheme in estimating both the ground and the excited states. We also discuss the limitations of the present method.

8Temporal Ordering In Quantum Mechanics

By

We examine the measurability of the temporal ordering of two events, as well as event coincidences. In classical mechanics, a measurement of the order-of-arrival of two particles is shown to be equivalent to a measurement involving only one particle (in higher dimensions). In quantum mechanics, we find that diffraction effects introduce a minimum inaccuracy to which the temporal order-of-arrival can be determined unambiguously. The minimum inaccuracy of the measurement is given by dt=1/E where E is the total kinetic energy of the two particles. Similar restrictions apply to the case of coincidence measurements. We show that these limitations are much weaker than limitations on measuring the time-of-arrival of a particle to a fixed location.

9Quantum Mechanics Of Klein-Gordon Fields II: Relativistic Coherent States

By

We use the formulation of the quantum mechanics of first quantized Klein-Gordon fields given in the first of this series of papers to study relativistic coherent states. In particular, we offer an explicit construction of coherent states for both charged and neutral (real) free Klein-Gordon fields as well as for charged fields interacting with a constant magnetic field. Our construction is free from the problems associated with charge-superselection rule that complicated the previous studies. We compute various physical quantities associated with our coherent states and present a detailed investigation of their classical (nonquantum) and nonrelativistic limits.

10From Quantum Mechanics To Classical Statistical Physics: Generalized Rokhsar-Kivelson Hamiltonians And The "Stochastic Matrix Form" Decomposition

By

Quantum Hamiltonians that are fine-tuned to their so-called Rokhsar-Kivelson (RK) points, first presented in the context of quantum dimer models, are defined by their representations in preferred bases in which their ground state wave functions are intimately related to the partition functions of combinatorial problems of classical statistical physics. We show that all the known examples of quantum Hamiltonians, when fine-tuned to their RK points, belong to a larger class of real, symmetric, and irreducible matrices that admit what we dub a Stochastic Matrix Form (SMF) decomposition. Matrices that are SMF decomposable are shown to be in one-to-one correspondence with stochastic classical systems described by a Master equation of the matrix type, hence their name. It then follows that the equilibrium partition function of the stochastic classical system partly controls the zero-temperature quantum phase diagram, while the relaxation rates of the stochastic classical system coincide with the excitation spectrum of the quantum problem. Given a generic quantum Hamiltonian construed as an abstract operator defined on some Hilbert space, we prove that there exists a continuous manifold of bases in which the representation of the quantum Hamiltonian is SMF decomposable, i.e., there is a (continuous) manifold of distinct stochastic classical systems related to the same quantum problem. Finally, we illustrate with three examples of Hamiltonians fine-tuned to their RK points, the triangular quantum dimer model, the quantum eight-vertex model, and the quantum three-coloring model on the honeycomb lattice, how they can be understood within our framework, and how this allows for immediate generalizations, e.g., by adding non-trivial interactions to these models.

12Dissipative Quantum Mechanics And Kondo-like Impurities On Noncommutative Two-tori

By

In a recent paper, by exploiting the notion of Morita equivalence for field theories on noncommutative tori and choosing rational values of the noncommutativity parameter $\theta $ (in appropriate units), a general one-to-one correspondence between the $m$-reduced conformal field theory (CFT) describing a quantum Hall fluid (QHF) at paired states fillings $\nu =% \frac{m}{pm+2}$ and an Abelian noncommutative field theory (NCFT) has been established . That allowed us to add new evidence to the relationship between noncommutativity and quantum Hall fluids\cite% {ncmanybody}. On the other hand, the $m$-reduced CFT is equivalent to a system of two massless scalar bosons with a magnetic boundary interaction as introduced by Callan et al., at the so called ``magic''\ points. We are then able to describe, within such a framework, the dissipative quantum mechanics of a particle confined to a plane and subject to an external magnetic field normal to it. Here we develop such a point of view by focusing on the case $m=2$ which corresponds to a quantum Hall bilayer. The key role of a localized impurity which couples the two layers is emphasized and the effect of noncommutativity in terms of generalized magnetic translations (GMT) is fully exploited. As a result, general GMT operators are introduced, in the form of a tensor product, which act on the QHF and defect space respectively, and a comprehensive study of their rich structure is performed.

13Semi-classical Limit And Minimum Decoherence In The Conditional Probability Interpretation Of Quantum Mechanics

By

The Conditional Probability Interpretation of Quantum Mechanics replaces the abstract notion of time used in standard Quantum Mechanics by the time that can be read off from a physical clock. The use of physical clocks leads to apparent non-unitary and decoherence. Here we show that a close approximation to standard Quantum Mechanics can be recovered from conditional Quantum Mechanics for semi-classical clocks, and we use these clocks to compute the minimum decoherence predicted by the Conditional Probability Interpretation.

Then, the pros and cons of some pedagogical non-relativistic quantum-mechanical models, also used to illustrate spontaneous symmetry breakdown, are discussed. Finally, a simple quantum-mechanical toy model (a spinor on the line, with a spin-dependent interaction) is presented, that exhibits the spontaneous breaking of an internal symmetry.

15Boundary State For Dissipative Quantum Mechanics And Thirring Model

The dissipative quantum system is studied using the Thirring model with a boundary mass. At the critical point where the Thirring coupling vanishes, the theory reduces to a free fermion theory with a boundary mass. We construct boundary states for the dissipative quantum systems in one dimension, which describes the system off the critical points as well as at the critical points.

16A Realistic Interpretation Of Quantum Mechanics. Asymmetric Random Walks In A Discrete Spacetime

By

In this paper, I propose a realistic interpretation (RI) of quantum mechanics, that is, an interpretation according to which a particle follows a definite path in spacetime. The path is not deterministic but it is rather a random walk. However, the probability of each step of the walk is found to depend from some average properties of the particle that can be interpreted as its propensity to have a certain macroscopic momentum and energy. The proposed interpretation requires spacetime to be discrete. Prediction of standard quantum mechanics coincide with predictions of large ensembles of particles in the RI.

17The Inevitable Nonlinearity Of Quantum Gravity Falsifies The Many-worlds Interpretation Of Quantum Mechanics

By

There are fundamental reasons as to why there should exist a reformulation of quantum mechanics which does not refer to a classical spacetime manifold. It follows as a consequence that quantum mechanics as we know it is a limiting case of a more general nonlinear quantum theory, with the nonlinearity becoming significant at the Planck mass/energy scale. This nonlinearity is responsible for a dynamically induced collapse of the wave-function, during a quantum measurement, and it hence falsifies the many-worlds interpretation of quantum mechanics. We illustrate this conclusion using a mathematical model based on a generalized Doebner-Goldin equation. The non-Hermitian part of the Hamiltonian in this norm-preserving, nonlinear, Schrodinger equation dominates during a quantum measurement, and leads to a breakdown of linear superposition.

18Dirac Operator On Complex Manifolds And Supersymmetric Quantum Mechanics

By

We explore a new simple N=2 SQM model describing the motion over complex manifolds in external gauge fields. The nilpotent supercharge Q of the model can be interpreted as a (twisted) exterior holomorphic derivative, such that the model realizes the twisted Dolbeault complex. The sum Q + \bar Q can be interpreted as the Dirac operator: the standard Dirac operator if the manifold is K\"ahler and a certain "truncated" Dirac operator for a generic complex manifold. Focusing on the K\"ahler case, we give new simple physical proofs of the two mathematical facts: (i) the equivalence of the twisted Dirac and twisted Dolbeault complexes and (ii) the Atiyah-Singer theorem.

19Geometric Formulation Of Quantum Mechanics

By

Quantum mechanics is among the most important and successful mathematical model for describing our physical reality. The traditional formulation of quantum mechanics is linear and algebraic. In contrast classical mechanics is a geometrical and non-linear theory that is defined on a symplectic manifold. However, after invention of general relativity, we are convinced that geometry is physical and effect us in all scale. Hence the geometric formulation of quantum mechanics sought to give a unified picture of physical systems based on its underling geometrical structures, e.g., now, the states are represented by points of a symplectic manifold with a compatible Riemannian metric, the observables are real-valued functions on the manifold, and the quantum evolution is governed by a symplectic flow that is generated by a Hamiltonian function. In this work we will give a compact introduction to main ideas of geometric formulation of quantum mechanics. We will provide the reader with the details of geometrical structures of both pure and mixed quantum states. We will also discuss and review some important applications of geometric quantum mechanics.

20Investigating Bounds On Decoherence In Quantum Mechanics Via B And D-mixing

By

We investigate bounds on decoherence in quantum mechanics by studying $B$ and $D$-mixing observables, making use of many precise new measurements, particularly from the LHC and B factories. In that respect we show that the stringent bounds obtained by a different group in 2013 rely on unjustified assumptions. Finally, we point out which experimental measurements could improve the decoherence bounds considerably.

21Quantum Statistical Mechanics. I. Decoherence, Wave Function Collapse, And The Von Neumann Density Matrix

By

The probability operator is derived from first principles for an equilibrium quantum system. It is also shown that the superposition states collapse into a mixture of states giving the conventional von Neumann trace form for the quantum average. The mechanism for the collapse is found to be quite general: it results from the conservation law for a conserved, exchangeable variable (such as energy) and the entanglement of the total system wave function that necessarily follows. The relevance of the present results to the einselection mechanism for decoherence, to the quantum measurement problem, and to the classical nature of the macroscopic world are discussed.

22Ad Hoc Physical Hilbert Spaces In Quantum Mechanics

By

The overall principles of what is now widely known as PT-symmetric quantum mechanics are listed, explained and illustrated via a few examples. In particular, models based on an elementary local interaction V(x) are discussed as motivated by the naturally emergent possibility of an efficient regularization of an otherwise unacceptable presence of a strongly singular repulsive core in the origin. The emphasis is put on the constructive aspects of the models. Besides the overall outline of the formalism we show how the low-lying energies of bound states may be found in closed form in certain dynamical regimes. Finally, once these energies are found real we explain that in spite of a manifest non-Hermiticity of the Hamiltonian the time-evolution of the system becomes unitary in a properly amended physical Hilbert space.

23On The Relation Between The Second Law Of Thermodynamics And Classical And Quantum Mechanics

By

In textbooks on statistical mechanics, one finds often arguments based on classical mechanics, phase space and ergodicity in order to justify the second law of thermodynamics. However, the basic equations of motion of classical mechanics are deterministic and reversible, while the second law of thermodynamics is irreversible and not deterministic, because it states that a system forgets its past when approaching equilibrium. I argue that all "derivations" of the second law of thermodynamics from classical mechanics include additional assumptions that are not part of classical mechanics. The same holds for Boltzmann's H-theorem. Furthermore, I argue that the coarse-graining of phase-space that is used when deriving the second law cannot be viewed as an expression of our ignorance of the details of the microscopic state of the system, but reflects the fact that the state of a system is fully specified by using only a finite number of bits, as implied by the concept of entropy, which is related to the number of different microstates that a closed system can have. While quantum mechanics, as described by the Schroedinger equation, puts this latter statement on a firm ground, it cannot explain the irreversibility and stochasticity inherent in the second law.

24Exact Fuzzy Sphere Thermodynamics In Matrix Quantum Mechanics

By

We study thermodynamical properties of a fuzzy sphere in matrix quantum mechanics of the BFSS type including the Chern-Simons term. Various quantities are calculated to all orders in perturbation theory exploiting the one-loop saturation of the effective action in the large-N limit. The fuzzy sphere becomes unstable at sufficiently strong coupling, and the critical point is obtained explicitly as a function of the temperature. The whole phase diagram is investigated by Monte Carlo simulation. Above the critical point, we obtain perfect agreement with the all order results. In the region below the critical point, which is not accessible by perturbation theory, we observe the Hagedorn transition. In the high temperature limit our model is equivalent to a totally reduced model, and the relationship to previously known results is clarified.

25The Schr\" Odinger Picture Of The Dirac Quantum Mechanics On Spatially Flat Robertson-Walker Backgrounds

By

The Schr\" odinger picture of the Dirac quantum mechanics is defined in charts with spatially flat Robertson-Walker metrics and Cartesian coordinates. The main observables of this picture are identified, including the interacting part of the Hamiltonian operator produced by the minimal coupling with the gravitational field. It is shown that in this approach new Dirac quantum modes on de Sitter spacetimes may be found analytically solving the Dirac equation.

26On The Realization Of Symmetries In Quantum Mechanics

By

The aim of this paper is to give a simple, geometric proof of Wigner's theorem on the realization of symmetries in quantum mechanics that clarifies its relation to projective geometry. Although several proofs exist already, it seems that the relevance of Wigner's theorem is not fully appreciated in general. It is Wigner's theorem which allows the use of linear realizations of symmetries and therefore guarantees that, in the end, quantum theory stays a linear theory. In the present paper, we take a strictly geometrical point of view in order to prove this theorem. It becomes apparent that Wigner's theorem is nothing else but a corollary of the fundamental theorem of projective geometry. In this sense, the proof presented here is simple, transparent and therefore accessible even to elementary treatments in quantum mechanics.

27Spin-spin Correlations Of Entangled Qubit Pairs In The Bohm Interpretation Of Quantum Mechanics

By

A general entangled qubit pair is analyzed in the de Broglie-Bohm formalism corresponding to two spin-1/2 quantum rotors. Several spin-spin correlators of Bohm's hidden variables are analyzed numerically and a detailed comparison with results obtained by standard quantum mechanics is outlined. In addition to various expectation values the Bohm interpretation allows also a study of the corresponding probability distributions, which enables a novel understanding of entangled qubit dynamics. In particular, it is shown how the angular momenta of two qubits in this formalism can be viewed geometrically and characterized by their relative angles. For perfectly entangled pairs, for example, a compelling picture is given, where the qubits exhibit a unison precession making a constant angle between their angular momenta. It is also demonstrated that the properties of standard quantum mechanical spin-spin correlators responsible for the violation of Bell's inequalities are identical to their counterparts emerging from the probability distributions obtained by the Bohmian approach.

28Quantum Mechanics And The Principle Of Least Radix Economy

By

A new variational method, the principle of least radix economy, is formulated. The mathematical and physical relevance of the radix economy, also called digit capacity, is established, showing how physical laws can be derived from this concept in a unified way. The principle reinterprets and generalizes the principle of least action yielding two classes of physical solutions: least action paths and quantum wavefunctions. A new physical foundation of the Hilbert space of quantum mechanics is then accomplished and it is used to derive the Schr\"odinger and Dirac equations and the breaking of the commutativity of spacetime geometry. The formulation provides an explanation of how determinism and random statistical behavior coexist in spacetime and a framework is developed that allows dynamical processes to be formulated in terms of chains of digits. These methods lead to a new (pre-geometrical) foundation for Lorentz transformations and special relativity. The Parker-Rhodes combinatorial hierarchy is encompassed within our approach and this leads to an estimate of the interaction strength of the electromagnetic and gravitational forces that agrees with the experimental values to an error of less than one thousandth. Finally, it is shown how the principle of least-radix economy naturally gives rise to Boltzmann's principle of classical statistical thermodynamics. A new expression for a general (path-dependent) nonequilibrium entropy is proposed satisfying the Second Law of Thermodynamics.

29Constructing Quantum Mechanics From A Clifford Substructure Of The Relativistic Point Particle

By

We show that the quantized free relativistic point particle can be understood as a string in a Clifford space which generates the space-time coordinates through its inner product. The generating algebra is preserved by a unitary symmetry which becomes the symmetry of the quantum states. We start by resolving the space-time canonical variables of the point particle into inner products of Weyl spinors with components in a Clifford algebra. Next, we build a dynamical system of N particles which has a U(N)symmetry that mixes the coordinates and momenta belonging to different particles. The reverse problem is formulated in terms of the commutation relations [X,P]=ik. For k=0, the system can be gauged back into a system of independent particles. For k#0, the system becomes an irreducible and infinite system of coupled tracks and generates a space-time canonical system formally identical to that of Matrix Mechanics. The continuum limit is identified as a particular parametrization of a relativistic string in Clifford space.

31A Euclidean Formulation Of Relativistic Quantum Mechanics

By

In this paper we discuss a formulation of relativistic quantum mechanics that uses Euclidean Green functions or generating functionals as input. This formalism has a close relation to quantum field theory, but as a theory of linear operators on a Hilbert space, it has many of the advantages of quantum mechanics. One interesting feature of this approach is that matrix elements of operators in normalizable states on the physical Hilbert space can be calculated directly using the Euclidean Green functions without performing an analytic continuation. The formalism is summarized in this paper. We discuss the motivation, advantages and difficulties in using this formalism. We discuss how to compute bound states, scattering cross sections, and finite Poincare transformations without using analytic continuation. A toy model is used to demonstrate how matrix elements of exp(-beta H) in normalizable states can be used to construct-sharp momentum transition matrix elements.

37Model Of The Physical Space From Quantum Mechanics

By

The physical world is quantum. However, our description of the quantum physics still relies much on concepts in classical physics and in some cases with `quantized' interpretations. The most important case example is that of spacetime. We examine the picture of the physical space as described by simple, so-called non-relativisitic, quantum mechanics instead of assuming the Newtonian model. The key perspective is that of (relativity) symmetry representation, and the idea that the physical space is to be identified as the configuration space for a free particle. Parallel to the case of the phase space, we have a model of the quantum physical space which reduces to the Newtonian classical model under the classical limit. The latter is to be obtained as a contraction limit of the relativity symmetry.

38Langevin Equation For A Dissipative Macroscopic Quantum System: Bohmian Theory Versus Quantum Mechanics

By

In this study, we solve analytically the Schrodinger equation for a macroscopic quantum oscillator as a central system coupled to a large number of environmental micro-oscillating particles. Then, the Langevin equation is obtained for the system using two approaches: Quantum Mechanics and Bohmian Theory. Our results show that the predictions of the two theories are inherently different in real conditions. Nevertheless, the Langevin equation obtained by Bohmian approach could be reduced to the quantum one, when the vibrational frequency of the central system is high enough compared to the maximum frequency of the environmental particles.

The intrinsic loss of coherence allows to circumvent some of the usual objections to the measurement process as due to environmental decoherence.

40Quantum Mechanics As A Classical Theory IX: The Formation Of Operators And Quantum Phase-Space Densities

By

In our previous papers we were interested in making a reconstruction of quantum mechanics according to classical mechanics. In this paper we suspend this program for a while and turn our attention to a theme in the frontier of quantum mechanics itself---that is, the formation of operators. We then investigate all the subtleties involved in forming operators from their classical counterparts. We show, using the formalism of quantum phase-space distributions, that our formation method, which is equivalent to Weyl's rule, gives the correct answer. Since this method implies that eigenstates are not dispersion-free we argue for modifications in the orthodox view. Many properties of the quantum phase-space distributions are also investigated and discussed in the realm of our classical approach. We then strengthen the conclusions of our previous papers that quantum mechanics is merely an extremely good approximation of classical statistical mechanics performed upon the configuration space.

44Universal Quantum Mechanics

By

If gravity respects quantum mechanics, it is important to identify the essential postulates of a quantum framework capable of incorporating gravitational phenomena. Such a construct likely requires elimination or modification of some of the "standard" postulates of quantum mechanics, in particular those involving time and measurement. This paper proposes a framework that appears sufficiently general to incorporate some expected features of quantum gravity. These include the statement that space and time may only emerge approximately and relationally. One perspective on such a framework is as a sort of generalization of the S-matrix approach to dynamics. Within this framework, more dynamical structure is required to fully specify a theory; this structure is expected to lack some of the elements of local quantum field theory. Some aspects of this structure are discussed, both in the context of scattering of perturbations about a flat background, and in the context of cosmology.

45Dimer Models, Free Fermions And Super Quantum Mechanics

By

This note relates topics in statistical mechanics, graph theory and combinatorics, lattice quantum field theory, super quantum mechanics and string theory. We give a precise relation between the dimer model on a graph embedded on a torus and the massless free Majorana fermion living on the same lattice. A loop expansion of the fermion determinant is performed, where the loops turn out to be compositions of two perfect matchings. These loop states are sorted into co-chain groups using categorification techniques similar to the ones used for categorifying knot polynomials. The Euler characteristic of the resulting co-chain complex recovers the Newton polynomial of the dimer model. We re-interpret this system as supersymmetric quantum mechanics, where configurations with vanishing net winding number form the ground states. Finally, we make use of the quiver gauge theory - dimer model correspondence to obtain an interpretation of the loops in terms of the physics of D-branes probing a toric Calabi-Yau singularity.

46Towards MIGO, The Matter-wave Interferometric Gravitational-wave Observatory, And The Intersection Of Quantum Mechanics With General Relativity

By

A dynamical, non-Euclidean spacetime geometry in general relativity theory implies the possibility of gravitational radiation. Here we explore novel methods of detecting such radiation from astrophysical sources by means of matter-wave interferometers (MIGOs), using atomic beams emanating from supersonic atomic sources that are further cooled and collimated by means of optical molasses. While the sensitivities of such MIGOs compare favorably with LIGO and LISA, the sizes of MIGOs can be orders of magnitude smaller, and their bandwidths wider. Using a pedagogical approach, we place this problem into the broader context of problems at the intersection of quantum mechanics with general relativity.

47Aspects Of The Decoherent Histories Approach To Quantum Mechanics

By

I give an informal overview of the decoherent histories approach to quantum mechanics, due to Griffiths, to Omn\`es, and to Gell-Mann and Hartle is given. Results on the connections between decoherence, records, correlation and entropy are described. The emphasis of the presentation is on understanding the broader meaning of the conditions of consistency and decoherence, and in particular, the extent to which they permit one to assign definite properties to the system. The quantum Brownian motion model is briefly discussed. (To appear in proceedings of the workshop, "Stochastic Evolution of Quantum States in Open Systems and Measurement Processes", Budapest, March, 1993, edited by L.Diosi).

48Hyper-Hamiltonian Quantum Mechanics

We present a modification of quantum mechanics with a *possible worlds* semantics. It is shown that `gauge' degrees of freedom along possible worlds can be used to encode gravitational information.

49On The Concept Of Pressure In Quantum Mechanics

By

Heat and work are fundamental concepts for thermodynamical systems. When these are scaled down to the quantum level they require appropriate embeddings. Here we show that the dependence of the particle spectrum on system size giving rise to a formal definition of pressure can, indeed, be correlated with an external mechanical degree of freedom, modelled as a spatial coordinate of a quantum oscillator. Under specific conditions this correlation is reminiscent of that occurring in the classical manometer.

50Classical Extensions, Classical Representations And Bayesian Updating In Quantum Mechanics

By

I review the formalism of classical extensions of quantum mechanics introduced by Beltrametti and Bugajski, and compare it to the classical representations discussed e.g. by Busch, Hellwig and Stulpe and recently used by Fuchs in his discussion of quantum mechanics in terms of standard quantum measurements. I treat the problem of finding Bayesian analogues of the state transition associated with measurement in the canonical classical extension as well as in the related 'uniform' classical representation. In the classical extension, the analogy is extremely good.
