1Effect Of Combined Psycho-physiological Stretching And Breathing Therapy On Sexual Satisfaction.
By Bay, Roohallah, Ismail, Shaiful Bahari, Zahiruddin, Wan Mohd and Arifin, Wan Nor
This article is from BMC Urology , volume 13 . Abstract Background: During the last few decades, marital tensions and stresses have influenced various dimensions of life. The objective of the current study was to examine the effects of combined psycho-physiological therapy (stretching therapy combined with breathing exercise) on sexual satisfaction among heterosexual men. Methods: For this research, we used “convenience sampling” to select 80 males, who were then split equally into two groups, the intervention group and the control group, both groups containing men who had voiced a desire to be in the experimental group. For collection of data, we used an identical quasi-experimental design called the “nonequivalent control group.” Therapy sessions, each lasting 90 to 120 min, were carried out on the same 3 days of the week (Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday) for a total of 20 sessions. The volunteers were selected from heterosexual men with stable relationships, who had been married a minimum of 6 months and were ages 20 to 55 years of age. Pre-tests, post-tests, and follow-up tests were conducted in a clinic at the Hospital Universiti Sains Malaysia (HUSM [1] ). For assessment, we used the sexual satisfaction subscale of the ENRICH [2] questionnaire. Results: The intervention group had better post-test scores than the control group. Also, follow-up test scores for the intervention group were marginally better than those for the control group, but the difference did not reach statistical significance. Conclusions: Combined psycho-physiological therapy including stretching and breathing exercise leads to improved sexual satisfaction.

8An Exploration Of The Psycho-Sexual Experiences Of Women Who Have Undergone Female Genital Cutting: A Case Of The Maasai In Kenya.
By Esho, T., Enzlin, P., Van Wolputte, S. and Temmerman, M.
This article is from Facts, Views & Vision in ObGyn , volume 4 . Abstract The research explored the link between type II Female Genital Cutting (FGC) and sexual functioning. This thesis summary thus draws from an exploratory ethnographic field study carried out among the Maasai people of Kenya where type II FGC is still being practiced. A purposely sample consisting of 28 women and 19 men, within the ages of 15-80 years took part in individual interviews and 5 focus group discussions. Participants responded to open-ended questions, a method deemed appropriate to elicit insider’s in-depth information. The study found out that one of the desired effects of FGC ritual among the Maasai was to reduce women’s sexual desire, embodied as tamed sexuality. This consequence was however not experienced as an impediment to sexual function. The research established that esteeming transformational processes linked with the FGC ‘rite of passage’ are crucial in shaping a woman’s femininity, identity, marriageable status and legitimating sexuality. In turn, these elements are imperative in inculcating and nurturing a positive body-self image and sex appeal and consequently, positive sexual self actualization. These finding brings to question the validity of conventional sexuality theory, particularly those that subscribe to bio-physical models as universal bases for understanding the subject of female sexual functioning among women with FGC. Socio-cultural-symbolic nexus and constructions of sexuality should also be considered when investigating psychosexual consequences of FGC.

9ERIC EJ1017300: The Effectiveness Of Psycho-Educational School-Based Child Sexual Abuse Prevention Training Program On Turkish Elementary Students
By ERIC
In Turkey, there is neither systematic nor structured child sexual abuse prevention programs for school-aged children in school settings. The main purpose of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of a school-based child sexual abuse prevention program on elementary school (4th grade) students. Quasi-experimental design with pretest, post-test and control group was used. The subjects consisted of 36 fourth grade students; 18 randomly assigned to the experimental and 18 randomly to the control group. For the experimental group, a "preventing child sexual abuse psycho-educational training program" as an independent variable was carried out by the researchers. The topics were about personal rights, "my body belongs to me", good touch-bad touch discrimination, breaking promise, body safety rules, say "No", and bad secrets, talking with a grown up who believes the child, sexual abuse is never a child's fault, etc. One hour session, with a ten minute break, were carried out on four consecutive days. During this period, the control group did not receive any treatment. ANCOVA analysis showed the students who attended the sexual abuse prevention program scored significantly higher than the control group (p less than 0.05). The effect size of the study was calculated by Cohen's d, and it was 0.80 which is satisfactory. As a result, the prevention child sexual abuse program was effective on 4th grade students and this effect was lasting eight weeks later. This study was the first experimental effort to prevent children from child sexual abuse in the school context in Turkey.

12Feeling Well And Talking About Sex: Psycho-social Predictors Of Sexual Functioning After Cancer.
By Perz, Janette, Ussher, Jane M and Gilbert, Emilee
This article is from BMC Cancer , volume 14 . Abstract Background: Changes to sexual wellbeing are acknowledged to be a long-term negative consequence of cancer and cancer treatment. These changes can have a negative effect on psychological well-being, quality of life and couple relationships. Whilst previous conclusions are based on univariate analysis, multivariate research can facilitate examination of the complex interaction between sexual function and psycho-social variables such as psychological wellbeing, quality of life, and relationship satisfaction and communication in the context of cancer, the aim of the present study. Method: Six hundred and fifty seven people with cancer (535 women, 122 men) and 148 partners (87 women, 61 men), across a range of sexual and non-sexual cancers, completed a survey consisting of standardized measures of sexual functioning, depression and anxiety, quality of life, relationship satisfaction, dyadic sexual communication, and self-silencing, as well as ratings of the importance of sex to life and relationships. Results: Men and women participants, reported reductions in sexual functioning after cancer across cancer type, for both people with cancer and partners. Multiple regression analysis examined psycho-social predictors of sexual functioning. Physical quality of life was a predictor for men and women with cancer, and for male partners. Dyadic sexual communication was a predictor for women with cancer, and for men and women partners. Mental quality of life and depression were also predictors for women with cancer, and the lower self-sacrifice subscale of self-silencing a predictor for men with cancer. Conclusion: These results suggest that information and supportive interventions developed to alleviate sexual difficulties and facilitate sexual renegotiation should be offered to men and women with both sexual and non-sexual cancers, rather than primarily focused on individuals with sexual and reproductive cancers, as is the case currently. It is also important to include partners in supportive interventions. Interventions aimed at improving sexual functioning should include elements aimed at improving physical quality of life and sexual communication, with a focus on psychological wellbeing also being important for women with cancer.

14Psychiatric Treatment Of Sexual Offenders : Treating The Past Traumas In Traumatizers ; A Bio-psycho-social Perspective
