#ARDUINO PRO MINI Programming-Clamp Arduino Pro Mini is a small, cheap Arduino-Board (below 1EUR). It has no USB, so you have to connect a external USB to serial-adaptor to program/log it. You can solder a 6 pin connector to the programming interface but why, you use it only for programming. So i constructed a comfortable clamp with ICT-contacts, realising a shift mechanism (a ballpen-spring) with enables a "swimming" connection (board is holded by contact-spring and ballpen-spring in middle. #Arduino Pro Mini Programming-Clamp with rotating mechanism Arduino Pro Mini is a small, cheap Arduino-Board (below 1EUR). It has no USB, so you have to connect a external USB to serial-adaptor to program/log it. You can solder a 6 pin connector to the programming interface but why, you use it only for programming. The comfort-shift-mechanism clamp is shown in another thing ([Link] (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4973177)). Here i realised a simple rotate mechanism clamp. It is useful if the board is mounted and you want to log the serial port without dismounting the Arduino. The first version did not have enough tension to hold the arduino , so i resorted to use a spring loaded clip .. this work better When printing use .01mm so the holes dont need drilling .. I plan on using this design to promote the need for a realistic way to teach elementary and middle school students how programming can be simple and fun without the need for expensive kits. Please share/print/code and keep the resources flowing for education! This Robot build started when my two year old daughter fell in love with an old ultrasonic robot that I built in elementary school twenty five years ago. It's missing parts and no longer works, but she has treated it with love since she was one year old. For her third birthday, I set out to make a sub $50 Robot with easily replaceable parts (see B.O.M. in instructions) that we could make together. The fact that no individual part costs more than $10 and that all parts are easily found or open source gives me the hopes that SCRU-FE will be passed down to her children with all her great memories. My three year old daughter adores this Robot. She named him Scruffy, so I made up a silly acronym that fits his silly appearance.

Transitioning to university is recognised as a challenging endeavour for commencing students. For commencing Computer Science students specifically, evidence suggests a link between poor performance in introductory technical courses, such as programming, and high attrition rates. Building resilience in students, particularly at the start of their academic journey, can potentially reduce the likelihood of student attrition. One way to develop resilience is through strong disciplinary engagement. We aim to increase student engagement by using popular low cost embedded platforms that provide a physical environment for novice programmers. This physical programming environment allows novice programmers to better appreciate the broad application of programming to everyday objects. Several experiments with the physical computing devices were designed and implemented for a first-year Computer Science programming course. These experiments were evaluated through a survey. Results indicate that whilst students found the environment more challenging than the normal computer-based environment, they felt more engaged in the programming process and enjoyed seeing the practical applications of hardware programming. The paper describes a curricular framework for introducing microcontroller programming in the University Physics lab. The approach makes use of Modeling Instruction, an effective approach for teaching science at the secondary level in which student learn the standard material by developing and deploying models of the physical world. In our approach, students engage with a context-rich problem that can be solved with one or more sensors and a microcontroller. The solution path we describe then consists of developing a mathematical model for how the sensors' data can be mapped to a meaningful measurement, and further, developing an algorithmic model that will be implemented in the microcontroller. Once the system is developed and implemented, students are given an array of similar problems in which they can deploy their data collection system. Results from the implementation of this idea, in two University Physics sections, using Arduino microcontrollers, are also described.

In May 1768, the Admiralty commissioned the 39-year old Cook to command a scientific voyage to the Pacific Ocean to observe and record the 1769 transit of Venus across the Sun. The expedition sailed aboard HMS Endeavour in August 1768, rounded Cape Horn and continued to Tahiti, where the observations of the transit were made. Cook then opened sealed orders for the second part of his voyage: to search the south Pacific for signs of the postulated rich southern continent of Terra Australis. Following his discovery and circumnavigation of New Zealand recorded in Volume 1, Cook sailed westwards to Australia, whose east coast was at that time unknown. After initially sighting Port Hicks, Cook landed at Botany Bay, where he tried but failed to make contact with the native inhabitants. He proceeded northward, mapping about a thousand miles of coastline and discovering the Great Barrier Reef by severely damaging his ship in running into one of the reefs. The ship was in danger of sinking and limped to the mainland where, over a period of seven weeks, major repairs were made by the ship's crew. Cook then proceeded to Cape York, the northern tip of Australia and completed his circumnavigation of the globe via Batavia (modern Jakarta, Indonesia), the Cape of Good Hope and St. Helena. - Summary by David Cole

Only months after his return from his mammoth Second Voyage, the Admiralty ordered Cook back to the Pacific, ostensibly to return Omai, a young man from Raiatea, to his homeland, but in fact to attempt the discovery of the Northwest Passage (a proposed route from the Pacific to the Atlantic north of Canada). Cook commanded HMS Resolution and was accompanied by Captain Clerke commanding HMS Discovery. After sailing to the Pacific via Tenerife, Cape Town and New Zealand, Omai was returned to his home, after which Cook became the first European to visit the Sandwich Islands (Hawaii) and then mapped the West Coast of North America. After many delays, he penetrated the Bering Strait, but was unable because of ice to proceed either East or West. He eventually returned to Hawaii, where Cook was killed by the natives. Following the death of Captain Clerke from tuberculosis, the ships eventually returned to Britain under the command of Captain Gore.
