Josselyn, John (fl. 1630-1675) An account of two voyages to New-England. wherein you have the setting out of a ship, with the charges; the prices of all necessaries for furnishing a planter and his family at his first coming; a description of the countrey, natives and creatures, with their merchantil and physical use; the government of the countrey as it is now possessed by the english, &c. a large chronological table of the most remarkable passages, from the first discovering of the continent of America, to the year 1673. by John Josselyn Gent. memner, distich rendred English by Dr. Heylin. heart, take thine ease, men hard to please thou haply might’st offend, though one speak ill of thee, some will say better; there’s an end. London, Printed for Giles Widdows, at the Green-Dragon in St. Paul’s-Church-yard, 1674. Octavo. Printer’s woodcut device leaf of a dragon with initials, “G W.” Bound in calf by Collinson with blind stamped borders on covers; re-backed with original blind stamped leather and two blue-green leather labels; all edges speckled blue; the margins are wide to protect both works. In half red morocco and red cloth box-case. Spine height: 7 ¾ inches. Peter Collinson’s (1694-1768) copy, with several notes in his hand. The work contains another title-page for the table: Chronological observations of America, from the year of the world to the year of Christ, 1673. London: Printed for Giles Widdowes, at the Green-Dragon in St. Paul’s-Church-yard, 1674. With which is bound: Josselyn, John, New-Englands rarities discovered , 1672. Original held by the Oak Spring Garden Foundation, Upperville, Virginia. This resource is in the public domain and may be used without restriction, however, attribution is customary and requested.
