This thesis describes the design and implementation of a distributed processing network of IBM PC compatible computers capable of performing parallel processing tasks. The network is a star cluster local area network, with the central computer controlling the operations of the satellite computers on a sequential basis. The local area network software operates over the computer's standard RS-232C communications ports, and is currently implemented to allow the central computer to operate two satellite computers. Processing tasks are dispatched to the satellite computers as programs which run to completion on the satellite computers. Utility programs within the software include file and message transfer to start the programs on the satellite computers and to obtain the output of the remotely executed program, configuration utilities to set the communications port parameters, and windowing utilities for display of information normally presented on the remote computer's display. The program is implemented in Turbo Pascal 4.0 under the MS-DOS operating system, version 3.21.

This report describes the features of Pascal language peculiar to its implementation on Univac 1100 series digital computers. It defines terms left undefined in the general language and describes local extensions to the language. It also describes procedures for using the language under the 1100 Executive. (Author)

NPS-PASCAL is a Naval Postgraduate School research project whose goal is the implementation of the PASCAL programming language on a microprocessor-based system. The NPS-PASCAL compiler consists of two software subsystems, the first analyzes the source program and produces a machine-independent intermediate form, while the second produces target machine code. The system is designed to satisfy the constraints of Standard Pascal, as defined by the British Standards Institute/International Standards Organization Working Draft of Standard Pascal.

The Flex-Pascal compiler runs on the RSRE Flex computer architecture, which is currently available on the ICL Perq 2 workstation. Flex-Pascal conforms to the ISO 7185 (BS 6192) standard for Pascal and provides (as one extension) a separate-compilation facility. This paper discusses the use of ISO 7185 and the BSI Pascal Validation Suite, and criticises areas of Pascal, which, by their nature, have proved particularly difficult to implement.

This paper describes the implementation of Pascal files in an object-oriented manner using procedure values. A Pascal compiler has been written to the ISO standard for the Flex computer using these methods. Each file is represented by a package of procedures and every basic operation on the file is a call of one of these procedures. Such an implementation is only possible on a machine which supports true procedure values. The design and partial implementation of the PASCAL programming language for use on a microprocessor-based system is described. The framework for the implementation is comprised of two subsystems, a compiler which generates code for a hypothetical zero-address machine and a translator that generates code for the target 8080 microcomputer. The portions of the system which are implemented are written in the PL/M programming language to run in a diskette-based environment with at least 32K bytes of memory. (Author)

This study produced an image processing algorithm development tool on a VAX computer system using the recent advances in an Image Algebra developed by G. Ritter et al at the University of Florida. The image algebra provides the basis for a hardware and software independent environment for the expression of practically all image processing algorithms. The goals of this project were twofold. The first goal was the implementation of the image algebra operators in a high level language to achieve hardware independence. The second goal was the design and implementation of a flexible preprocessor that could translate image processing algorithms, written in the image algebra language, into a high level computer language which could be compiled and executed on the VAX computer. The implementation was achieved in the PASCAL computer language. All of the basic image algebra operators and the preprocessor were successfully programmed on the VAX computer, but a complete software independence of the image algebra was not achieved. This version also produces very large blocks of executable code for relatively simple algorithms. Examples of the power and simplicity of the image algebra language and preprocessor environment are included. (Theses)

This thesis tries sto find a mapping algorithm between Prolog and Pascal languages. For this purpose, a small subset of Prolog is chosen and translated into Pascal code. Also, the concept of logic programming and its practical application in the programming language Prolog, are discussed. The reader is expected to be familiar with Pascal and Prolog.
