In this paper, we address the issue of hyperspectral pan-sharpening, which consists in fusing a (low spatial resolution) hyperspectral image HX and a (high spatial resolution) panchromatic image P to obtain a high spatial resolution hyperspectral image. The problem is addressed under a variational convex constrained formulation. The objective favors high resolution spectral bands with level lines parallel to those of the panchromatic image. This term is balanced with a total variation term as regularizer. Fit-to-P data and fit-to-HX data constraints are effectively considered as mathematical constraints, which depend on the statistics of the data noise measurements. The developed Alternating Direction Method of Multipliers (ADMM) optimization scheme enables us to solve this problem efficiently despite the non differentiabilities and the huge number of unknowns.

With the advent of a new generation of solar telescopes and instrumentation, the interpretation of chromospheric observations (in particular, spectro-polarimetry) requires new, suitable diagnostic tools. This paper describes a new code, NICOLE, that has been designed for Stokes non-LTE radiative transfer, both for synthesis and inversion of spectral lines and Zeeman-induced polarization profiles, spanning a wide range of atmospheric heights, from the photosphere to the chromosphere. The code fosters a number of unique features and capabilities and has been built from scratch with a powerful parallelization scheme that makes it suitable for application on massive datasets using large supercomputers. The source code is being publicly released, with the idea of facilitating future branching by other groups to augment its capabilities.

A multi-product system is one of the different types of manufacturing systems, in which a large number of products are produced that complement each other and have interdependence. These types of systems have recently been widely used in various industries. In some types of multi-product manufacturing industries that offer their products as a package, the scheduling of the production of components of each package affects the time it takes to complete the package. Therefore, a new problem has been defined that the primary purpose of its production scheduling, in addition to reducing the completion time of the products, is to make various items forming a package, get ready over a short interval of time and be supplied to the sales unit so that the package can be delivered to the final consumer. The purpose of this paper is to express the problem of production scheduling of multi-product production systems in the form of linear programming. For this purpose, two mathematical models are presented, and their functions are compared. Besides, an efficient genetic algorithm is proposed to solve the problem, which is able to solve the problem in a reasonable time, with acceptable accuracy.

We study an assembly line balancing problem that occurs in sheltered worker centers for the disabled, where workers with very different characteristics are present. We are interested in the situation in which parallel assembly lines are allowed and name the resulting problem as parallel assembly line worker assignment and balancing problem. We present a linear mixed-integer formulation and a four-stage heuristic algorithm. Computational results with a large set of instances recently proposed in the literature show the advantages of allowing alternative line layouts.

In this paper, we study families of immersed curves $\gamma:(-1,1)\times[0,T)\rightarrow\mathbb{R}^2$ with free boundary supported on parallel lines $\{\eta_1, \eta_2\}:\mathbb{R}\rightarrow\mathbb{R}^2$ evolving by the curve diffusion flow and the curve straightening flow. The evolving curves are orthogonal to the boundary and satisfy a no-flux condition. We give estimates and monotonicity on the normalised oscillation of curvature, yielding global results for the flows.

Significant numbers of birds are killed annually by flying into power lines across Africa, and numerous attempts have been made to mark lines to make them more conspicuous, to reduce these collisions. Results from surveys reported in this paper and many others indicate that bustards (family Otidae) are most susceptible. Bustard fatalities are not greatly reduced by adding bird diverters to earth wires. Here we propose a new mitigation measure that may reduce the number of mortalities by two-thirds where two power lines run in parallel: staggered towers. Power line surveys in Namibia and South Africa indicate that 87% of 134 bird collisions occurred in and near the middle sections of a span, while only 13% of collisions occurred near the towers themselves. Despite the skull morphology of bustards creating a blind spot immediately ahead of them, it appears that the towers are big enough to be seen (or heard) and avoided. Thus, by aligning power lines of similar size in parallel and as close as technically feasible and staggering the towers such that each tower is aligned with the mid-span of the neighbouring line, the lines may become more visible. This should allow collision-prone birds to gain altitude and fly over the lines. Theoretically, this method is expected to reduce power line fatalities by 67% for each new line. We call for experimental validation of this novel mitigation measure.

We didn't conceptualize or have any grandiose plans, we simply enjoyed ourselves in the studio.Inspiration was running high so we focused on making a lot of music uninterrupted, rather than signing tracks, which left us with quite a bulk of unsigned material. The idea to release these tracks as an album came from our friend Alex, at Connaisseur. We jumped on the idea instantly, listened trough the material, taking some tracks out and composing a few new ones, to make it sit more together as a whole. We tried to come up with a title that would fit the feeling of the sum of tracks and settled on The Loneliest Man In Space. As a result of the need to extend the storage life of rocket motors, new emphasis has been placed upon the effect of cracks developed during storage and transport on the integrity of motor performance, In addressing this need, the authors have developed a three specimen test procedure for evaluating the stress intensity factor (SIF) distribution for cracks through the thickness of rubberlike materials near to and within simulated bond lines between the motor grain and its liner. A refined frozen stress method is employed for making measurements, and preliminary studies have shown that, for cracks in the bond line under both Mode I and Mixed Mode loads, the stress intensity factors are elevated primarily due to bond line residual stresses and may not be affected by modulus mismatch. In the present study, the refined frozen stress method is applied with the three specimen technique to edge cracks which are both parallel to and within the bond line. Since the three specimen method utilizes both homogeneous bonded and bimaterial bonded specimens, the bond line effect is separated from modulus mismatch effects. Results of the study show that cracks parallel to the bond line develop both an elevated Mode I SIF and a shear mode as they are placed closer to the bond line. These effects are shown to be due to critical temperature (T(sub c)) mismatch. Cracks in the bond line exhibit a somewhat elevated SIF but no shear mode. The SIF elevation is mainly due to residual bond line stress and modulus mismatch is shown to have virtually no effect.

I liked the BCN3D's model however I think it may crack when printed without rotation, meanwhile, it needs supports when rotated. This slightly modified version needs no supports. This model scaled to 60mm (Z-axis) fits my Lumia 640 well.

Equations of Parallel and Perpendicular Lines

A parametric analysis was performed of transmission cables for transmitting electrical power at high voltage (up to 1000 V) and high frequency (10 to 30 kHz) for high power (100 kW or more) space missions. Large diameter (5 to 30 mm) hollow conductors were considered in closely spaced coaxial configurations and in parallel lines. Formulas were derived to calculate inductance and resistance for these conductors. Curves of cable conductance, mass, inductance, capacitance, resistance, power loss, and temperature were plotted for various conductor diameters, conductor thickness, and alternating current frequencies. An example 5 mm diameter coaxial cable with 0.5 mm conductor thickness was calculated to transmit 100 kW at 1000 Vac, 50 m with a power loss of 1900 W, an inductance of 1.45 micron and a capacitance of 0.07 micron-F. The computer programs written for this analysis are listed in the appendix.

We report the design of an analog technology, what we refer to as a SunRule, that uses sunlight to model multiplication. Physical models that explore multiplication are fixtures in elementary mathematics classrooms. Our interest in physical models of multiplication was driven by an overarching design problem: How could a physical tool realize a continuous model of multiplication? That is, how could we represent continuous, variable quantities with physical things? We identify specific challenges the SunRule was designed to solve. We explain the mathematical underpinnings of the device and report a teaching experiment during which preservice teachers explored the device in small, socially-distanced groups. We consider how explorations with the SunRule create opportunities for mathematically rich instructional activities that are also essentially connected to being outside. This article is from Cell Adhesion & Migration , volume 6 . Abstract The extracellular matrix is constructed beyond the plasma membrane, challenging mechanisms for its control by the cell. In plants, the cell wall is highly ordered, with cellulose microfibrils aligned coherently over a scale spanning hundreds of cells. To a considerable extent, deploying aligned microfibrils determines mechanical properties of the cell wall, including strength and compliance. Cellulose microfibrils have long been seen to be aligned in parallel with an array of microtubules in the cell cortex. How do these cortical microtubules affect the cellulose synthase complex? This question has stood for as many years as the parallelism between the elements has been observed, but now an answer is emerging. Here, we review recent work establishing that the link between microtubules and microfibrils is mediated by a protein named cellulose synthase-interacting protein 1 (CSI1). The protein binds both microtubules and components of the cellulose synthase complex. In the absence of CSI1, microfibrils are synthesized but their alignment becomes uncoupled from the microtubules, an effect that is phenocopied in the wild type by depolymerizing the microtubules. The characterization of CSI1 significantly enhances knowledge of how cellulose is aligned, a process that serves as a paradigmatic example of how cells dictate the construction of their extracellular environment.
