A Collaborative Information Environment (CIE) provides a set of tools for the commander and the warfighters, at all levels, to access a near real-time, fused, accurate picture representing the battlespace. The CIE introduces a variety of capabilities to assist decision-makers by providing a common relevant operational picture and the ability to conduct collaborative planning. Several information systems, currently under development, are being designed to provide improved situational awareness, and offer potential support to the CIE. This thesis research was performed to support U.S. Joint Forces Command (JFCOM), J9, Joint Experimentation Division, as part of their effort to develop new warfighting concepts to support the transition of the military force to the fighting force described in Joint Vision 2020. Ten information systems, identified by JFCOM, were analyzed and compared on a set of criteria that were developed and refined as part of this research. The objective was to compare these information systems on the established criteria to provide a basis for assessing the level of support provided by these systems to the CIE and emerging warfighting concepts. Descriptions of the ten systems are provided along with data that was collated from a variety of sources to conduct the analysis.

This report, the review of experience, documents the historical maintenance experience, for both CG-16 and CG-26 Class armament systems, SWAB Group 700. It presents an analysis of the existing maintenance policy and recommends specific maintenance actions and maintenance policy modifications to improve system material condition.

This report describes a pattern-based approach for finding a general class of computer operating system errors characterized by the inconsistency of a data value between pairs of references. A formal description of the error class is given, both as a protection policy being enforced and as a violation of that policy, i.e., an error statement. A particular subclass of the general error class is then examined, i.e., those errors in which the data type is a parameter. A formal specification of a procedure for finding instances of the subclass is given with examples of errors found using the procedure. This work has been performed under Advanced Research Projects Agency Contract DAHC15 72 C 0308. It is part of a larger effort to provide securable operating systems in DOD environments.

Modem electron microprobe systems have become increasingly sophisticated. These systems utilize either UNIX or PC computer systems for measurement, automation, and data reduction. These systems have undergone major improvements in processing, storage, display, and communications, due to increased capabilities of hardware and software. Instrument specifications are typically utilized at the time of purchase and concentrate on hardware performance. The microanalysis community includes analysts, researchers, software developers, and manufacturers, who could benefit from exchange of ideas and the ultimate development of core community specifications (CCS) for hardware and software components of microprobe instrumentation and operating systems.
