Speaker Bio: In the early 70's Kevin Dale McKeown became the first "out" gay journalist in Canada, writing for the Georgia Straight. Since then he has written extensively about Vancouver's gay community, including on issues affecting it's male population. Kevin brings to the panel a unique perspective on what it means to be a man today with awareness of issues affecting men in both the heterosexual and LGBTTQ communities.

It’s a case years in the making. Robert Durst, 76, stands trial for the murder of longtime friend Susan Berman, 55. Prosecutors say he shot her at her Beverly Hills home on December 23, 2000, shortly after New York state authorities reopened an investigation into the 1982 disappearance of his wife Kathie McCormack Durst. Prosecutors are not seeking the death penalty. Openings are set to begin Wednesday, March 4 at 12 p.m. PT / 9 a.m. ET, but there is no live stream. Law&Crime will carry portions of the trial on a delay. You can watch in the player above. The Berman case is tied indelibly to Kathie Durst’s disappearance, and 2001 slaying of the defendant’s neighbor Morris Black. Both incidents will play at a role at this trial. For example, the state is allowed to present evidence the defendant made his wife have an abortion. Then there’s the matter of Black’s death. Robert Durst moved to Galveston, Texas after Berman’s murder, where he admittedly killed Black while posing as a mute woman in the Lone Star State. Prosecutors over there charged him with murder, but his defense successfully got him acquitted after arguing the shooting happened as a matter of self-defense. Nonetheless, Durst was convicted of dismembering the body. All told, decades passed but Durst dodged actual homicide charges despite widespread suspicion. That changed in 2015, when he was arrested for the Berman murder in New Orleans. Incidentally, it was right around the premiere of the HBO docuseries The Jinx. In the last episode, he apparently confessed to murder while on a hot mic, but his defense has said that his statements were edited out of order. Texas woman Brenda Delgado stands trial in Dallas County for capital murder. Prosecutors said the defendant became obsessed with her ex-boyfriend Ricardo Paniagua, so she hired a man named Kristopher Love to kill Paniagua’s new girlfriend, dentist Kendra Hatcher. As far as authorities are concerned, this is just round 2. Love was convicted and sentenced to death last year. Paniagua, a dermatologist, testified at the trial. He said that he dated Delgado from Fall 2012 to Summer 2014, broke up, and started up again briefly from November 2014 to February 2015. According to him, they remained friendly and occasionally texted one another. Meanwhile, he moved on with his life. He met Hatcher through an online dating website, according to his testimony. Things grew serious fast. Allegedly, it was too fast for his ex-girlfriend. Crystal Cortes testified that Delgado recruited her and Love to end Hatcher’s live. She told jurors that Delgado was possessive and clingy, angry that Paniagua was dating Hatcher, and wanted him back. Prosecutors said that Delago started stalking her ex online and in person, pretending to incidentally be at the same places he was at. Love carried out the murder on Sept. 2, 2015, killing Hatcher after she pulled into the parking lot of her apartment complex. Cortes admitted to being the getaway driver. She is serving a 35-year sentence. Delgado allegedly fled to Mexico, but was arrested there. Under the conditions of her extradition, she will only face a life sentence, not the death penalty. Now another set of 12 people will decide if he should be convicted as charged of first-degree murder with a firearm. Both sides agree that Dumercy shot Peoples at a Chevron station on December 8, 2016. The alleged motive: the victim was with the defendant’s ex-girlfriend. Dumercy’s attorney have argued it was self-defense. He testified at his first trial that Peoples had threatened him. Live Coverage: Former Cop Kim Potter Jury Selection Day 3 - Death of Daunte Wright Former police officer Kimberly Ann Potter, 49, stands trial for killing Daunte Wright, 20, in a disastrous traffic stop. Potter’s attorney has also said that she will testify. You can watch jury selection in the player above. Opening statements are scheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 8. There is no dispute that Potter fired her gun. The question is whether Potter’s actions constitute first and second-degree manslaughter under Minnesota law. As seen on body cam video from April 11, 2021, officers with the Brooklyn Center Public Department pulled over Wright for a traffic stop. Officer Anthony Luckey began to handcuff him against the driver’s side of the car. He suggested Wright was about to resist. “I’m not doing nothing,” Wright said. He eventually yanked away, getting back into the driver’s seat. A struggle ensued. “I’ll tase ya!” Potter said, pulling out what turned out to be her gun. She repeated her warning, then finally yelled, “Taser, taser, taser!” She opened fire, striking Wright, who then drove away. “Holy sh*t!” Potter said. “I just shot him.” Wright later crashed into another vehicle, authorities said. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Potter resigned. Warning: viewers may find the video disturbing. Potter had her Taser on her left side of the duty belt and her gun on the right side, authorities said. “The complaint alleges that former Brooklyn Center police officer Kimberly Potter committed first-degree manslaughter by recklessly handling a firearm when she fatally shot Daunte Wright during a traffic stop in Brooklyn Center on April 11, 2021,” The Minnesota Attorney General’s Office said when adding the count of first-degree manslaughter. “The complaint continues to allege — as the original complaint did — that Kimberly Potter committed second-degree manslaughter by culpable negligence by using a firearm.” Being a police officer for 26 years, Potter was trained in the use of guns and Tasers, they said. “Defendant completed annual recertification training courses on each of these weapons,” they wrote in charging documents. “These courses included training on how to draw, aim, and use each weapon correctly. The training material for these courses also included notices alerting Defendant to the possibility and risks of drawing a handgun instead of a Taser. In the six months before this incident, Defendant completed two Taser-specific training courses. For example, on March 2, 2021, Defendant attended a four-hour training course pertaining to the Taser. This course involved a classroom component, which provided detailed and substantive information concerning the function, proper use, and safety concerns associated with using Tasers; a practical component; and a written test. After this training, Defendant was certified for use of the Taser X7.” In other words, prosecutors said Potter knew better, and she has to take responsibility for it. Potter’s defense is geared to argue that this shooting was an innocent mistake. In motions, they have been arguing against the state’s use of force expert and suggested that Wright was a danger to the community. As things stand, jurors will hear Potter’s version of events from the stand. Live Coverage: Woman on Trial for Allegedly Murdering Snake Breeder Husband A woman stands trial in Boone County, Missouri, because she allegedly shot and killed her snake breeder husband amid a possible breakup over her money problems. Lynlee Jo Renick, 33, is charged with first-degree murder. Opening statements are scheduled to begin Monday, Dec 6. 8:30 p.m. CT / 9:30 a.m. ET. You can watch in the player above. She shot and killed husband Benjamin Renick, 29, on June 8, 2017, while he was cleaning a back wall at his snake facility, the Missouri State Patrol said in a probable cause affidavit. Defendant Renick had allegedly been planning to kill him for a while, with a botched, prior attempt in which she drugged a protein shake with the painkiller Percocet. It did not kill him, however. It just made him sick, authorities said. According to authorities, Lynlee plotted the murder with Ashley Shaw, a friend from work. The women allegedly recruited Lynlee Renick’s ex-boyfriend Michael Humphrey to help carry it out. Shaw reportedly struck a deal with prosecutors to dodge charges. Jurors found Humphrey guilty in October for first-degree murder, and armed criminal action. If we go by the probable cause affidavit, Lynlee Renick’s spa business was an albatross on her marriage. She allegedly told another former lover of hers that she knew Ben was going to leave her because she was “sucking money out of the business.” Investigators said they executed a search warrant of her and her husband’s Facebook accounts, and they learned that Ben Renick discovered his wife was behind paying rent for the spa, that the bank that financed her had reached out to him numerous times after failing to reach Lynlee, and that Ben was angry about the financial position of the spa. “There were also several overdue bills Ben had yet to discover, and Lynlee’s bank account for the spa was constantly over-drafted,” the Missouri Highway Patrol said.
